The loss of the theatrical rights is attributed to the Lake Theater’s marquee messages for the documentary. These included: “DOES MELANIA WEAR PRADA? FIND OUT FRIDAY!” and “TO DEFEAT YOUR ENEMY. YOU MUST KNOW THEM. MELANIA.”

Really not funny, offensive, or even interesting, but I guess that's enough these days.

[–] Davel23@fedia.io 67 points 1 month ago (2 children)

The Prada one is mildly clever, implying Melania is the devil.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 34 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I kinda like the second one, about defeating them you must know them.

Welcome to Sun Tzu Theater.

[–] PointyFluff@lemmy.ml -2 points 1 month ago

Yeah. I don't wear Prada.
False economy.

Amazon got mad over a DOT-level joke

Not a single ticket sale was lost

The jokes that made the snowflakes angry:

These included: “DOES MELANIA WEAR PRADA? FIND OUT FRIDAY!” and “TO DEFEAT YOUR ENEMY. YOU MUST KNOW THEM. MELANIA.”

Frees up the screen for something useful. Like a stream of paint drying.

[–] SpicyLizards@reddthat.com 3 points 1 month ago

Ooh, hopefully the plot of the drying paint is vocalised at least three times an hour so I can watch on my phone.

Theatre Owner: Oh thank fuck.

[–] CanadianCarl@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Is it a cinema, or theatre? I am confused. I thought it was a movie.

"Movie theater (sic)" in American English, "cinema" in British.

Sounds like they did it for the lols, made light fun of it in their promo material, and Amazon pulled the licensing.

“Mostly, I thought doing so would be funny. For some of you, that’s enough. Great! Otherwise… Financially, the film marketplace this week and next were a desert… So, to fill a screen, why not get this inexplicable vanity piece from the current president’s wife? I mean, it just seems so weird that it even exists (who wants a movie about Melania lol?), and wouldn’t it then be exponentially weirder, to the point of being funny, to show it here, at your obviously anti-establishment, occasionally troublemaking, neighborhood cinema?” Perry wrote.

Oof. Lost out on a whole $30 in revenue.

They'll never financially recover from this.

[–] slothrop@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 month ago

Is Barbra Streisand involved?

[–] gil2455526@lemmy.eco.br 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Uh, Iron Lung? It's doing very well for an indie movie.

[–] Zoomboingding@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It made several times its budget but it's still a tiny amount compared to blockbusters

[–] P1k1e@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Still number 1 tho

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 5 points 1 month ago

So they lost the right to have several empty theaters? And they consider that a bad thing?

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 month ago

O_O

WTF @ everything associated with this timeline…

[–] ToiletFlushShowerScream@piefed.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

My take is the theatre owner was screening the film primarily for mockery purposes?

[–] lowspeedchase@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago

Yup the general manager stated they did it for the lols

[–] Alpha71@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

And nothing of any value was lost.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago

oh no, they will lose tens of dollars.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 3 points 1 month ago

"I am Melania, Bride of Trumpella, and I have only known da feet."

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Hope they gonna stop showing every Amazon production in the future like James Bond

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 2 points 1 month ago

portland for anyone else that has a lake oswego in their area. did not realize how popular a name that was.

[–] lowspeedchase@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 month ago

I love this theatre - it's a mini Draft House and it is awesome.

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

They should replace it with a screening of 1984.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 month ago

There's a theatre near me that posts political messages. I wonder if they'd do one about that shitty docu if I sent them this.
