"ban ranked-choice voting for federal elections", now we know what they are afraid of. Time to make RCV a first class topic.

ban ranked-choice voting for federal elections

This is the one that has all of them scared.

Imagine if you could vote for who you actually wanted without "throwing your vote away".

Imagine if you could have more than two parties.

Imagine if you had choice.

require mail-in ballots to be received by Election Day

Hey remember how the USPS changed their date stamp to the date it leaves the post office where as forever before it was the date it got picked up?

Yeah…. That’s gonna be used for the midterms.

I haven't felt so much anxiety in a future event since November 6th 2025. This summer and fall may be some of the worst months of our collective lives. When it's warmer and more people come out to protest, Stephen Miller will crank up the violence to get more violent resistance from protesters, which will cause Trump to pull the nuclear option and deploy Army troops to everywhere, supported by Palantir and the full weight of the American intelligence agencies, to stop midterms from bringing Trump and team to justice.

It's gonna get ugly

[–] whereIsTamara@lemmy.org 10 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

It’s martial law by October. Get ready. Don’t be here.

Get ready, buy guns, train, and find allies.

Buy drones and learnt to fly them if you can, Ukraine has shown consumer grade drones are extremely useful.

To anyone reading this, start building your mutual aid and information networks now. A great option is Food Not Bombs, and it's super easy to get involved. When SHTF, we'll need our community to pull ourselves through. That requires some people on the front line doing the action, but also 10x people doing logistics support and organizing, food and materiel distribution, engineers and technicians to build/fix equipment, social media communicators to spread relevant info, radio operators, intelligence collection specialists, etc.

I think for every 1 front line person you need 9 support personnel in all of these various disciplines, but don't quote me on that. I've seen several different ratios so not sure.

The “Make Elections Great Again Act” would require photo identification, require mail-in ballots to be received by Election Day, require voters to opt-in to voting by mail, ban ranked-choice voting for federal elections, among many other restrictions.

Jesus fucking christ....

They of course want to funnel people to polls in person, for they know this will drive down turnout in itself, but also will make it way easier for Trump goons to harass voters. They'll also take advantage of the anonymous bomb threats that poured into 50 polling locations across battleground states in areas with higher Democratic turnout. FBI reports traced these to Russian IPs.

States would also have to provide documented proof of U.S. citizenship for anyone registered to vote in federal elections and re-check those voters’ eligibility “as are necessary on an ongoing basis, but in no case less frequently than once every 30 days.”

Even if you were to try to take this as a good faith effort to improve elections in the United States, instead of the transparent attempt to suppress voting it is, it is by no means “small government” to check the voting rolls of the entire United States every 30 days.

[–] Manjushri@piefed.social 31 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

And how do you re-check that eligibility? Is every state supposed to send a postcard to every voter every thirty days, and require every voter to respond affirmatively to prove they are still at that address? That is so monumentally absurd it's source could only be The Heritage Foundation.

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 4 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

If I was tasked with that, I would go down the list and verify that the document submitted has still been submitted. That is, instantly check off everyone in one go.

I supposed if you wanted to be thorough you could pick out the people who used a passport that is now expired, and send them a reregistration postcard or do it on voting day. Because I live in a sane state that has same-day voting registration.

[–] green_red_black@slrpnk.net 6 points 11 hours ago

It’s interesting that same day registration ban wasn’t in the packet. Normally policies that actually make registration convenient for the public is something the republicans don’t want

[–] zd9@lemmy.world 18 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Everything about this is just so Republicans can further rig and fuck with votes for midterms. I wish it wasn't so blaringly obvious, but their supporters are dumb as fuck so they don't even understand what's happening.

[–] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 9 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Stupidity runs through conservative veins. I'm Canadian and I have a co-worker practically begging for trump to come here. He called our PM Mark Carney a weak leader for standing up to trump, cause that makes sense. Yet we all know damn well that if a dem was president, Carney would be called spineless for working with them instead of "fighting for a deal."

[–] zd9@lemmy.world 5 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

It's just weird because there are those who are very smart in their jobs, so for those I think it's just bigoted and hateful. Most, however, are both dumb and hateful (aka real insecurity channeled towards the scapegoats that the ultra-wealthy oligarchs push via Newsmax, Fox, TPUSA, OANN, Heritage, CPAC, etc.)

[–] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I think a big part of it is our human hypocrisy. This co worker calls our natives "wagon burners" as an insult saying it was unjustified to treat the european settlers like that, yet he basically arms his whole family and locks down his house if a car pulls over near his house.

He can understand a desire to protect himself, his family, and his land, but he can't show any sympathy to others who had their families and land taken away. He vilifies hitler and idolizes trump. A lot of it boils down to hypocrisy.

[–] zd9@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago

But the hypocrisy is fundamentally because they lack empathy. The entire mindset of Conservatism is "how can this personally benefit ME", or: "fuck everyone else, I got mine"

[–] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 7 points 9 hours ago

Wow, sure would be nice if Dems used their budget leverage to lock THIS SHIT out.

[–] uberdroog@lemmy.world 12 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

If we get to elections, it won't matter. They will lose.

[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 25 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

That's the point, Republicans are doing everything they can to prevent elections at all.

Trump has repeatedly "joked" about canceling them completely.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

I like jokes. Speaking of, wouldn't it be a hilarious prank if we all went to find these fascists and dragged them into the streets? Oh man, what a hoot that would be! I bet everyone would love it

[–] minorkeys@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

Even if you get them still have to be fair elections where everyone who can vote, can vote.

[–] Elbow1240@lemmy.zip 1 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

Since low propensity voters are more favorable to Trump, wouldn't suppressing turnout stand to hurt Republicans?

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 6 hours ago

Yeah, Republicans are constantly disenfranchising voters in every way possible because that hurts Republicans. Makes sense.

[–] yeahiknow3@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 7 hours ago

As Yeats wrote of the apocalypse,

“The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.”

[–] whitecollarcry@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago

every one of their pre-k named bills is the thinnest fucking bullshit projection lol at least they're consistent
