We've seen what happens on Voyager. If Janeway didn't kill Tuvix, there would 100% have been some evil twist to him. He'd turn into a giant bug and/or start eating people within a week.

Lower Decks also addressed the consequences of killing Tuvix. The next Tuvix attempted to genocide/assimilate the entire crew rather than dying. Almost succeeded, too.
We ended up finding out that Tuvok had a barely-contained dark side, too.
The crew wouldn’t have stood a chance.
Worth it to be rid of Neelix.

There must be a fan edit of the Tuvix script where they manage to Thomas Riker him, and split one of the transporter clones in the process.
