Charging $85 for cheap printed shirts is a crime in itself. I gaurantee this website is run by someone who is still a HUGE MAGA supporter and just wants to grift some people.

[–] wilt@sh.itjust.works 5 points 7 hours ago

They will literally collect names and addresses for shipping Merch.

[–] korazail@lemmy.myserv.one 1 points 7 hours ago

All 6 items in their store being the same price also makes this feel like a low effort scam. MAGA are susceptible to the grift, as proven by being maga to begin with.

Also, why the fuck make this shit red‽ pick literally any other color.

All that said, I do fully support the IDEAL of embracing people who feel that they are no longer maga, or are coming around to the leopards-ate-my-face kind of realization. They are primed to believe us the next time we warn them.

look imagine if there had been a "Leave Nazi" movement in Germany in 1938 and it had been pretty successful...

There were a ton of Germans looking to reclaim glory they believed had been lost or stolen, just like so many MAGA Trump supporters believe (they're all wrong about that but...).

I think it's possible there are people supporting Trump today who are salvageable. Maybe this site can help.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 17 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I feel like most people voting for trump in the last election did it for spite because they hate the other side. Now some are seeing that it was a huge mistake. It doesn't change the fact that they were willing to throw everyone else under the bus because they didn't believe what was going on.

They are just assholes. They love trump because he's an asshole. Fuck them

[–] ReluctantMuskrat@lemmy.world 6 points 9 hours ago

They may not deserve forgiveness but if reaching out to them can get them to admit their mistake, and in doing so we together can rollback some of the insanity of the last decade, it'll be better for all of us. Based on numbers alone we're very unlikely to do that without some help from "reformed" Republicans.

[–] MedicPigBabySaver@lemmy.world 29 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My Mom recently left MAGA. Rest her soul.

[–] fratermus@piefed.social 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My Mom recently left MAGA. Rest her soul.

Same with both my parents.

While I was helping with my father's home hospice care he told me that he likes watching Newsmax because "it's pretty much in the middle". FFS. He was about 5% conspiracy kook already but really took the bait once he started listening to Rush Limbaugh. Then it was anti-Clinton bumperstickers everywhere, and stuffing crank political into every conversation he could. Went downhill from there.

So I have extended family that are MAGA and you know what I hear from those few who have some regret for voting Trump?

The same damn things that the were saying before about everything just without saying "Praise Trump" in front of it.

They have not changed, they're just looking to whitewash their guilt while not addressing the core rot in their souls.

I asked my sister-in-law who worked for the VA (retired a few months ago) about the end of the road emails, literally I asked "Hey I heard that a bunch of crazy emails went out to all federal employees, did that happen to you at the VA too?" and she went off on how everything has been nuts since trump took over and how people are being removed from W2 and made all gig workers with 1099 so they don't have to pay out insurance or benefits or earn time towards a government pension / retirement, and how lucky she is she gets to retire before that fully takes affect and how its "all Elon's fault". Saying it was all Elon, and Trump had nothing to do with it, is some serious mental gymnastics... This was August of last year.

[–] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 5 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (1 children)

Yeah and who put Elon is a position of power? - is what I'd follow up with.

[–] pleasejustdie@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, you can say it and deal with the outcome. I chose to keep my mouth shut since my entire family is cool aid drinkers.

[–] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

What's the outcome? They have to face the truth for 5 seconds? You're not lying.

[–] pleasejustdie@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

The outcome would be a while lot of people trying to gaslight me.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

Wow, I always did assume musk was there to take the blame but didn’t know anyone fell for it

[–] fratermus@piefed.social 15 points 1 day ago (3 children)

People fight back against the leopards who ate their faces

  1. you're on a plane, minding your own business
  2. a group of radicalized hijackers take over the plane and are determined to crash it
  3. some hijackers get queasy about it and either stop participating in the highjack or even start to fight against it
  4. [do what with them?]
  5. once you land add all the hijackers to the no fly list, prosecute, etc

We are at step 4.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

The hijackers get pardoned and regroup but don't include the queesy people next time so the hijacking is successful.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 day ago

No. we're at the beginning of step 3.

Let's first get this over, once we are done with the cheeto we can squabble about what to do with Maga. At the very least it should be designated a prohibited domestic terrorist organization

[–] DMCMNFIBFFF@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)
  1. You’re on a plane, minding your own business.
  2. A drunk with a gun demands that the plane be flown to Mar-a-Lago, or he will kill everyone on the plane. He's well armed and insults some of the fellow passengers for saying negative things about Trump.
  3. After a while, a fellow passenger political centrist whacks him while he's not looking. The gun flies out of his hand, and discharges, but there is little injury and damage.
  4. Others tackle and hold him. He's arrested and charged. Trump pardons him.
  5. He wants to be taken off the now-fly-list (or lists if it's up to private airline companies). He says that he has since given up on guns and drinking alcohol, and promises not to do it again. (He might also have said "MTG has some good criticisms of Trump.")

Here's a link to the guy's free ebook so other people don't have to put in a fake name and temp email
https://leavingmaga.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/E-book-Leaving-MAGA.pdf

It also came with a guide to talking to magats
https://leavingmaga.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Reaching-Out-Guide.pdf

Neither seems very compelling, but good luck to the guy I guess.

[–] trublu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

The guide basically reads, "Treat them like idiots and pretend to be one yourself."

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 3 points 17 hours ago

Surprisingly effective from my experiences.

I will never forgive or help these people. Fuck them.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 day ago (5 children)

I very much understand you anfd feel you

Having said that, let me play devil's advocate for a second.

A very simple point: we still have to live with these people. They're our neighbors, our families, "friends" and co-workers. Is it wise to hate them all forever? We still have to live with them, we can't "simply kill" every Republican in the country (as many magas would like for all the Democrats) as it's dozens of millions

These people are not victims, but they have been ~~misled~~ brainwashed by literally decades of Republican propaganda through Fox News and others. The US government allowed that. For decades. Fox News suing to be able to lie as a news organization should never have passed, but it did. Citizens United effectively ended your democracy, it should never have passed. But it did.

I think this is like the Stanford prison experiment. Some became prisoners, others guards, but all played by the rules set by those in control

I think our hatred should be reserved for those that really caused all this shit, not your every day maga. Republican law makers (on federal, state, and local levels) caused this. Billionaires funded all of this for their own gains. Those are the ones that should be locked up forever, those are the real Nazis. Take ALL possessions and money away from all billionaires and the setup a hard cap of 1-10 million dollars, anyone having a networh of over that gets 100% tax on their income untill they're below again

No more millionaires no more people with the single handed power to fuck over a country for their own gains

Then require news organizations and journalists to always be truthful, by law. Fund them from an independent foundation that only cares about factual news

Then you'll have to rebuild your democracy from the ground up. American elections are a shit show, and have been since WWII. Get a parliamentary democracy, get rid of your presidents

Hell, while at it, let's end super powers. Right now is a great time for that. Russia is on its last legs before death, the US is shooting itself in the face multi times now, and China is about to feel the real force of the demographics freight train hat is about to hit it. Split all super powers up into small states, te US included, with it's 50 states. Form a United nations with teeth that can smack any non democratic government down as replace it with democracy world wide.

Sounds like a pipe dream? Maybe, but its better than eternal hate

[–] ScoffingLizard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 17 hours ago

Wenmightnneed to consider the last time someone was a power to "slap down" democracies.

[–] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

That kind of shit is how we ended up here in the first place. Trying to make peace with the south instead of wiping them from the planet allowed them to come back stronger, like a virus you didn't take all your medicine for.

[–] not_that_guy05@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I honestly don't give a fuck ay this point. I don't want to live with these fuckers they should hanged for what they did to this country and are still doing. They are sadists fuck that want to inflicted as much pain and suffering to the populace as possible.

You can play the devil advocate all you like, but to me this a virus that needs to be destroyed. Magas and Republicans were right Democrats and people apolitical will lie down when it comes to fighting for what is right and it will be a bloodless civil war on their side not on the regular folks side.

Let's continue letting the rot spread just like we let the "south will rise" fuck boys from the civil war. Let's not learn from our past mistakes, maybe this time it'll be different.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

Not what I'm saying. I'm not saying that we should allow them to continue being Nazi or Confederate wannabees.

I'm saying we can't continue with hatred.

In the end we still need to make a living for ourselves, together in cities and all, and we can't do that if everyone hates each other, for good reasons or not.

You can't either suggest we execute 70+ million people, not really practical and, you know, not really ethical as well and I fucking guarantee you that that will only breed even more hatred and violence. That sort of attitude will push the US into a civil war and then everyone loses everything. Thought Minnesota this week was bad? Wait until New York is the next Sarajevo. That is a potential future, and I'd think you don't want that.

But you gotta stop hating man. I fully gettit, I get the feeling, I have it myself but I also understand that tomorrow when this is over we still HAVE to live together

Only alternative I see so far is to break the US up into 50 states (this should happen anyways, same with Russia and China btw, no more super powers, fuck them) and these states likely will split on the red/blue line. Red states likely will turn into theocratic third world dictator banana republics that will barely be able to feed their own population, while the blue states, liberated from the dead weight, will flourish.

I'm guessing that is more up your alley, this will allow the magas to just wallow in their own shit-stan republic states and you won't have to deal with them anymore

I get that people don’t want to help them.

Because the odds are the eaten suddenly didn’t grow a conscience.

They were fine with all the other shitty things being done. That’s the problem. You help them and odds are they’ll continue to throw people in cages, hand massive money to rich people, keep supporting the Orange Idiots tariffs, invading [insert pretty much any country], wrecking the government, anti-vax, anti-science, turning America into a dictatorship, etc.

So maybe they feel wrong about trump because he made their heating bill too high, or their groceries cost too much, or maybe because a couple people got executed, but the rest is still ok because they’re self-centered idiots.

I’m not sure “enemy of my enemy…” applies. They seem pretty determined to fuck everything up, and have bitten every time someone extends a hand.

So:

  • on the one hand, it’s fantastic that there’s a meaningful fraction of that absolutely fucking caustic movement that’s becoming fed up with it and are bailing.
  • on the other hand, I’m going to be deeply suspicious of any “reformed MAGA” until they openly and strongly recant all the racist, white supremacist, misogynistic, mafia-esque ideology - otherwise, in my book, they haven’t really left.

I know it can be entertaining (in a schadenfreude type way at least in my case) to read about people who got screwed over after voting so eagerly for Trump and his cohorts. But this seems like a really powerful, helpful, and positive website.

And I applaud these people for publicly acknowledging their mistake. It wasn't easy, but it's a brave thing they are doing. We all make mistakes (some bigger than others of course). But the important thing is to learn from them.

It's through these people that others can hopefully learn and find a path out. Even if it's just a couple of dozen people, that's something.

The first thing you notice when visiting the site is a fucking shopping cart icon. Not a great sign if we're looking at this like it's a serious support site for people trying to tackle their own issues. It's like selling collectible shot glasses at alcoholics anonymous.

I mean I guess you got to respect the hustle... MAGA is chock full of the easiest to fleece people in the world, and you've got a website to run. You're not here to help them with their shopping addiction that's for sure!

It's not a matter of choice at this point.

We're in literal Gestapo shit. Only stupid people would care about the politics of people willing to stand shoulder-to-shoulder against it.
