Isn't doing shit the opposite goal here? /s
But good job, hope you can convince some others to not participate in any economic activity.
Keep being active everyone and get more people doing!! Power to the people!!!! The more of UE doing the stronger we all are!!
Also let's round up what the Alt-Right and Alt-Left establishment government did not take into account:
- People from Right AND millions of Left nationwide in USA carry all kinds of firearms (The alt-left establishment pushes hard to remove firearms but decent amount of people do not support that)
- Plenty of Left-leaning people vote right in Ruby red and purple states to not be ostracized so almost any Ruby red state can flip
- They underestimate the rage people have had boiling for so many decades from not getting our needs meet
- They did not expect a united resistance to all that they are doing back then to now from people all over world and here
- If they really wanna continue this a stupid game they will really FAFO in every way imaginable!!
The goal of all of us real people who care on left and right here in USA is to unite to take back our country and primary all the traitors from alt-left and alt-right establishment in office/upcoming candidates.
Also after this is all resolved we need to promote things that encourage dialogue between sides and gets people to meet each other halfway way more. Also to go back to where left and right parties were before Reagan instead of the far far right it is leaned into right now. Also reinstating good things we had before
This is a good wakeup call to get younger candidates to get elected too since they are way less likely to be compromised and have personal experience with failure of the system
We outnumber them by millions in people and brainpower here and worldwide. Just all of us doing makes us all win. 99% wins vs 1% every time when people just show up.
There is no such thing as the alt-left.
Dang I’m just finding out I have a Dr appointment but nothing else
I also have a doctors appointment! Solidarity! Haha

Congress passed the Taft-Hartley Act in 1947 (over Truman's veto) to make general strikes so incredibly difficult to organize that there hasn't been one since. That there is a general strike happening in a major US city on such short notice is nothing short of a miracle.

I looked it up. These were anti-union laws. I think about how quickly the French can strike, but remember that it's four to five giant labor unions that always call for them to happen. We're in dire straits here in the U.S!
Sign a strike card??? https://www.generalstrikeus.com/
Not only that but keep getting more people active!! Also keep using Session, XMPP, Signal/Molly, Matrix/Element, Stoat, and Piefed to get coordinated and organize people!! Getting people to mobilize and organize other people as well. The more of us doing the stronger we all are!!
I think that the elites in France learned that it was much better to let the people strike than the alternative.
Strike and protests are the compromises that everyone agreed too.
Really? Did something happen there, during a time of upheaval? I wonder what that could have been.
How would the act effect how strikes are organized? The government is not involved no?
By outlawing solidarity strikes, and several other kinds of strikes. It's difficult to organise a general strike because almost every general strike is illegal.
Honestly I didn't get this memo that we were striking in my city.
The Europeans have it right. Americans only strike when it's convenient.
Europeans can kiss my ass when they talk like that. We have a totally different situation here. Less than 10% union membership I believe.
Only because you have allowed that situation to arise. I'd tell youse to kiss my arse but you're too busy kissing the boot on your neck.
They also tried to organize it with like 12 minutes of notice.
I get that it's urgent, but if you don't give people time to even get groceries ahead of time, you can't really have a large-scale strike lasting longer than an afternoon.
You all are missing the point. The Govt has systematically dismantled our labor unions, and labor unions typically call for strikes. It's not about convenience: It's about the ability to organize and the guarantee of a number of people participating.
Honestly I didn't get this memo that we were striking in my city.
You've got it now, and the day isn't over yet.
Unfortunately I work from home and Fridays are code freeze days, and we fuck around and video games together. 😭
and we fuck around and video games together
If that's your higher priority...
Do it!
Good luck.
my wife is a teacher. she's going to work because not everyone can afford to take off and a lot of folk use school as day care (and y'all shouldn't really be taking your 5 and 6 year olds picketing against ICE when the feds are liable to use chemical weapons against you) but like, it'd be nice to just piss off and let the littles fend for themselves.
Although the beauty of General strikes, you don't have to go anywhere. You can stay home, you can smoke weed all day and play video games.
Then I’ve been striking for a long time.
Most schools are canceled today for the cold around me. South Wisconsin <-30°F windchill.
Edit: symbols
Right across the lake it is only -5, the lake warms the cold snaps like 30 degrees in these polar masses. I read -36 in wi somewhere too.
I know this is completely insignificant but Im a math teacher and your less than sign pointing the wrong way is triggering me.
It was greater than -30 in some places...
Wait, I get what you mean now. My bad. Ha
The alligator eats Wisconsin
-30F doesn't exist here, but we get hella strong winds. A dozen MPH shy of Wyoming wind (I am blessed with excellent weather). I do not envy you that wind chill. Last time I remember the district canceling school it was flooding. Maybe fire. IDK I was shoveling sandbags or fleeing the fire, one of the two.
Really it's people in key positions that need to do it that'll affect the common apathetic person in the USA. What's that, the local food places are closed? Where are they going to eat for lunch sorta thing.
Is it okay to get food from a taco truck?
If they're at an organizing event, sure.
No
All resistance is good.
Shut down the economy.
The regime needs our obedenence, do not give it to them willingly.
And keep it going! Dont buy anything unless it's a 100% essential. Cancel all your media subscriptions. Reduce your food intake to a healthy amount. Stop going to shows and on trips. This needs to go longer than one day. I'd say three more years but we're so materialistic it's discouraging.
Lying flat is what I hear it's called in China. There's a lot we don't need on a daily that we purchase because of consumerism. It's finding what's needed. Wear old clothes until they fall apart, eat less and less processed food, don't just stop media consumption but pirate it if you can and show if for those who can't. We need multiple pain points here that are sustained. The other part is look out for each other. Your neighbor can barely eat while working? Buy some extra non-perishables for them. Have extra clothing? Give it right to people who need it. Collectivism is how we get rid of capitalism.
Can the powers that be just please stop insisting it just be for a "DAY" of resistance... thats not what a general strike is, so either call it something else or commit to the actual thing you're pretending to promote.
Its a good step in the right direction, but lets stop pretending these performative one weekend day a month protests are making any difference at all.
FYI - you don't need permission from anyone or confirmation that others will join you to call in sick tomorrow. This is literally one of the easiest things you could do to show your support. It's not enough on its own but if we can't even do this much we won't do more either.
