I was updating Wikipedia and I stumbled upon this piece of news. Bob's Burgers production cut ties immediately with the actor, and now his character has a new voice.

[–] Salamanderwizard@lemmy.world 68 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Can't trust a guy named Pesto.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 19 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Well yeah, his real name was Poplopovich.

[–] Salamanderwizard@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago

Figures he wouldn't use his real name.

[–] pentastarm@piefed.ca 6 points 3 weeks ago

All right. Listen. You're my fellow lemmy, and I love you. But you're terrible at what you post, and I feel like I should tell you. I'd ban all of you if I could.

[–] Tenthrow@lemmy.world 61 points 3 weeks ago

That is some attention to detail. The villains in that show are so authentic the actors who depict them are villains IRL.

[–] baggachipz@sh.itjust.works 48 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

There was no Capitol riot, only an insurrection and coup attempt.

[–] Sturgist@lemmy.ca 16 points 3 weeks ago

These aren't mutually exclusive

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 31 points 3 weeks ago

I love the show. But now I love it more.

I'm pretty much down for anything HJB. I wish he still had his van.

[–] Pronell@lemmy.world 27 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I had loved Jay Johnston ever since the Mr. Show days.

Fucking traitor. I flip off the screen anytime he's on now.

[–] 0li0li@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Same, this just soured my favorite Mr Show skit :(

[–] Apeman42@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)
[–] ZephyrXero@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

My favorite Mr. Show sketch 😞

It blows my mind that comedians, who are pretty much modern day jesters, are supposed to rip into nobility and the wealthy.

And whenever I see them defending a billionaire, regardless of Trump, Musk, or whatever boogieman liberal billionaire... I just know they're shitty at their job.

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 26 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh, THATS why he was replaced. Well, fuck him then.

[–] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 25 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

He was kicked off the show for this.

It's so interesting how Fox News is this right-wing talking piece. But Fox entertainment is so different. Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob's Burgers don't give a fuck.

[–] NickwithaC@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Different organisations with different owners. The name is solely historic at this point.

[–] avg@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 weeks ago

It was spun up in 2013, so for nearly 30 years, it was part of News Corp. I've seen a video about this dichotomy in the past and I remember none of it

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 20 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

Went down his filmography (and it's a pretty long one) and didn't find a single role I remember other than his supporting role on Bob's Burgers.

But I'm sure some of you TV and film guys will remember his other characters such as Cop, Young Cop, FBI Agent, Agent, FBI Agent, (wow FBI Agent must have been a real hit if they brought that character back multiple times in completely different TV shows) Mustachioed Cop and Police Officer #2, Various, and Various Roles. I'm guessing Various Roles is some sort villain character he played?

I wonder if any of the real FBI agents who arrested him were like "You know Mr. Johnston, your portrayal of FBI agent is what inspired me to join the FBI?"

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

I mean his crime is not being a contract worker. No one denigrates plumbers for not fixing enough celebrity toilets.

[–] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world 16 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Also one of the actors in the legendary show Mr. Show.

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Not just actors but one of their best writers.

He is proof that even right wing dipshits can be funny.

[–] kandykarter@lemmy.ca 43 points 3 weeks ago

Or alternatively, that clever, funny, smart people are not always immune to propaganda and radicalization

[–] Kraiden@piefed.social 9 points 3 weeks ago

I find right wing dipshits can be hilarious! Mostly unintentionally, but still

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 7 points 3 weeks ago

A very, very rare exception indeed!

[–] pruwybn@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah, I was sad when I learned about this, he's a funny guy.

[–] stormeuh@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

I guess if you have an outspoken leftist like Sam Seder in your cast, you must maintain balance with a PoS like this guy.
