Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

transphobia! trans people deserve real chicken wings not nuggets with delusions of grandeur

[–] Grail@piefed.soulism.net 1 points 1 hour ago

Only if the wings are vegan

[–] Bazell@lemmy.zip 6 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

Hey, this is not fair. No one should have them! 🙃

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

No one should have this. What do you have against trans people, I wouldn't wish boneless wings to my worst enemy.

[–] ShotDonkey@lemmy.world -1 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

I am European and I don't even know what that is and don't want to. Boneless wings... I taste vomit in my mouth while I read the word, don't know why.

[–] kogasa@programming.dev 4 points 4 hours ago

It's chicken tenders with sauce

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com -1 points 6 hours ago

I'm Dutch, I have exactly the same. Feels like looking at it already takes away months of my life. Boneless wings is from chicken from Chernobyl? Who would eat that....

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

To use or to eat? Because I want boneless wings to use, and if I gotta pay my Trans homies gotta pay too

[–] luciferofastora@feddit.org 1 points 7 hours ago

...use for what?

If you mean flying, I'm not sure wings without some structural support will do a great job of maintaining airflow or generating lift.

[–] Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 8 hours ago

I think it's the least we can do tbh. Trans people should have free food once in a while.

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 40 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (4 children)

All food should be free comrade. I don't consider chickens to be food though so please consider plant based wings

[–] SuperNovaStar@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 10 hours ago

Cauliflower makes for really excellent "wings"

[–] hoch@lemmy.world 0 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I considered it, but ultimately determined chickens are too tasty

[–] wuzzlewoggle@feddit.org 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

The thing is, they really aren't. Have you ever eaten an unseasoned piece of chicken? It's totally tasteless. Almost all the flavor comes from the spices, which means you could just as well put those spices on anything else and it will taste pretty much like chicken.

[–] stray@pawb.social 4 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I'm against industrialized abuse and slaughter of animals, but unseasoned meat is delicious. I don't think making things up about the flavor is a good argument.

[–] wuzzlewoggle@feddit.org 1 points 1 hour ago

Well maybe our tastes just differ then. A steak I can understand but unseasoned chicken tastes like absolutely nothing to me.

I ate all the bones btw >:3

[–] Catoblepas@piefed.blahaj.zone 18 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

[Chubbyemu voice] This user ate 45 pounds of wing bones over 2 weeks. Here’s what happened to their kidneys.

[–] X@piefed.world 5 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago) (1 children)

This user is a Lemmy user ☝️presenting to the emergency room with hyperbonesemia. Hyper- : meaning high, bones: meaning bones, and -emia: meaning presence in blood. This user was suffering from an high presence of bones in their blood.

[–] luciferofastora@feddit.org 5 points 7 hours ago

If you wanna be pedantic - I do - it would be οστεα (idk the accents, it's been 13 years) / ostea for bones. Hyperostemia might work.

[–] phaedrus@piefed.world 2 points 10 hours ago

And eggs get free eggs?

[–] kittenzrulz123@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 13 hours ago

Upvote this if trans people should have free chickenless wings and juicy plant-based burgers

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 14 points 16 hours ago

Someone please think of those poor boneless chickens!

Anyone wanna share? I'll trade you headpats and "good girl/boy/affirmation of your choice" in return.

[–] AeonFelis@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago

How will they be able to fly without bones in their wings?

[–] scttgard@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago

Buffalo Nuggets, so wrong!
