Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Prove me wrong. Launching Kyle Rittenhouse directly into the sun will help America to be great again.

[–] Kacarott@aussie.zone 7 points 1 day ago

A bit unscientific. As a control we should additionally launch him into another star to make sure our sun isn't biased

[–] drcobaltjedi@programming.dev 33 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It takes less delta V to launch him out of the solar system. I vote we efficently launch him into space to test your hypothosis.

[–] usualsuspect191@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 day ago (2 children)
[–] MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 day ago

We can save a lot of time and money by just aiming at whatever celestial phenomenon and launching with enough force to create a pretty pretty parabola. No need to exit the atmosphere at all.

[–] Mantzy81@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He's the kind of popsicle who would be a willing participant in the Principality of Zeon

As long as they make him one of Char's subordinates during the one-year-war, I see no problem with this.

[–] antonim@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That would be wildly expensive and take a long time to carry out. A volcano would suffice.

Weird way to come out, by okay.

[–] cnlwhs@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Blähaj is a queer instance, so I kinda came out by joining this instance.

The other commenter caught my intent to ridicule Rittenhouse by his own standards: His community fluoridates the water, so either drinking the water turned him gay, or, if it didn't, he's full of shit.

[–] Ephera@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 day ago

I believe, they were talking about this Kyle Rittenhouse person. Kyle presumably drinks water. If they're convinced that it turns people gay, well, presumably their own sexuality did not conflict with this theory.

[–] TomMasz@piefed.social 88 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Kyle Rittenhouse. Murderer. Crybaby. Scientist.

[–] tacosanonymous@mander.xyz 29 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And either gay or does not drink water?

[–] neukenindekeuken@sh.itjust.works 3 points 23 hours ago

Worse, eco-terrorist by drinking only bottled water without realizing that it comes from the same tap the fluoride water is from.

[–] edinbruh@feddit.it 92 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Prove me wrong. There is a teapot in orbit, somewhere between the earth and the sun.

[–] pulsewidth@lemmy.world 62 points 2 days ago (3 children)

This explains why there is such a high concentration of gay people in Arkansas, where flouride is naturally high in much of the drinking water. They also have the fourth-highest fluoridation rate across counties in the USA.

The other states with the highest fluoridation rates?

  • North Dakota
  • South Dakota
  • Kentucky
  • Tennessee
  • Georgia, and
  • Illinois

Ah yes, the 'who's who' list of gay metropolises that you'd expect to find if water fluoridation makes people gay.

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago

Using data, believe it or not, ALSO GAY!

[–] clif@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There have recently been attempts to ban fluoride in some municipalities. I wonder what they'd do if it was in an area where it's naturally occurring...

[–] mech@feddit.org 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

They should send cops into the aquifer to investigate.

[–] TomMasz@piefed.social 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I dunno, can you shoot water?

[–] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 22 hours ago

Mmm! Fluoride, now with lead! It's extra crunchy!

No, prove yourself right if you can. Do your own goddamn work, shitbag.

[–] olenkoVD@lemmy.dbzer0.com 24 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I'll prove you wrong.

Are you gay?

[–] ToastedRavioli@midwest.social 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Plot twist: Kyle is self hating gay and looking to blame it on tap water

OP: Are you gay?

Rittenhouse: No!

OP: Does your mom know you’re gay?

Rittenhouse: No!

OP: 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀

[–] MrSulu@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 day ago

Entitled to think he's smart just because he can drive out and shoot humans he doesn't know.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 31 points 1 day ago

prove me wrong

These people have no fucking concept of "proof" do they

[–] Rozauhtuno@lemmy.blahaj.zone 20 points 1 day ago

Yeah, sure. It's the fluoride in the water that made me gay. Not Shego from Kim Possible.

[–] Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 points 1 day ago

There is no fluoride in the water around here.

I'm gay.

You can ask my wife.

Therefore OOP's argument is invalid.

[–] mushroomman_toad@lemmy.dbzer0.com 26 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Kyle Rittenhouse should put that on a tent and stand under it

[–] Stern@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago

Hope his neck just does that.

[–] Stern@lemmy.world 25 points 2 days ago

Fluoride was of course famously in ancient Greek water.

[–] froufox@lemmy.blahaj.zone 24 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Science: proves it's wrong

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Bold of you to assume these kind of people care about science!

[–] RagnarokOnline@programming.dev 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Prove me wrong. Kyle Rittenhouse eats his cereal with water instead of milk.

[–] Stern@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Prove me wrong: Kyle Rittenhouse eats his corn the long way

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Instead of proving himself right, he wants others to prove him wrong.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This person is still alive? How unfortunate.

[–] RedSnt@feddit.dk 4 points 1 day ago

So far he has been too big of a coward to use his second amendment right on himself, only people in the street.

[–] brap@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

A shit guy, on a shit platform, with a shit opinion.

Nine out of 10 dentists attend pride

[–] Routhinator@startrek.website 11 points 1 day ago

As someone who moved from a province with flouride to one without it in the water, no flouride in the water is a greedy dentists wet dream.

Never had a cavity but now without flouride they just keep coming.

must be exhausting to be a right wing social media account because you always have to keep thinking of new grifts.

Ever heard of the burden of proof? Or did you shoot that too?

[–] Denjin@feddit.uk 11 points 2 days ago

I brush my teeth and I crave cock so maybe he's onto something?

[–] barnaclebutt@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Guys guys. He's got a PhD is getting away with murder. We should listen to him!

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club 4 points 1 day ago

And they milk the gays to get all that fluoride!!
