I want a lying as a representative of the people tax. Kinda like a swear jar, but for public representatives and their official channels.

[–] halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world 17 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

No I want that to be a capital offense.

If they're able to prove in a court of law that you knowingly lied to constituents, off with your head.

[–] teft@piefed.social 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It will be abused by the opposite party who will claim small lies count and start lopping off heads. Similar to the “fraud” charges the doj is trying to use against comey and james.

Fake charges are bullshit when they can take money and time from you. Imagine if they can take your life instead.

The death penalty isn’t the end all be all that people think since the wind can blow the other direction and power swings with it.

There is zero reason for any of them to lie. They can just not comment about things instead of making shit up.

[–] teft@piefed.social 3 points 3 weeks ago

You misunderstand me. Everyone lies. If the law says you can't lie to the constituents and then you say something like "I like your yellow shirt" but the opposition finds your "I hate yellow shirts" blog they now have an excuse to string you up.

I'm not saying that politicians should lie just that a death penalty for lying is a real quick way to some power abuses since everyone lies.

Tax all churches. None of them get a non-profit status. It's a business that uses 'religion' as a shield to shove it's 'morals' on the rest of society. Taxing porn is just another way that religion is deciding what freedoms you get regardless of the Constitutional freedom of Speech. It's forcing you to participate in the 'religious laws' of a specific religion.

Let’s tax viewing Fox News instead.

the bill would impose a 7 percent tax on total receipts “from sales, distributions, memberships, subscriptions, performances, and content amounting to material harmful to minors that is produced, sold, filmed, generated, or otherwise based” in Utah

Based on the text, it should

They've admitted what they really want is to outright ban porn, so it's all just trying to push it as close to that as they can get

[–] Ghostie@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Those goobers use just as much porn as everybody else.

[–] chicken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah but they externalize it as an "addiction" and want to think of their actions as being someone else's responsibility

[–] Ghostie@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 weeks ago

Ultimately it wont work. Banning porn just makes people have to take a couple extra steps with VPNs and such to access it. The people that banned it will be right along side those VPN users too.

[–] CountryBreakfast@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 weeks ago

Why won't they just ban it?

[–] danekrae@lemmy.world 15 points 3 weeks ago

"World shocked as children learn to torrent. 'I thought we could actually stop people from accessing things on the internet' one dumbshit was quoted as saying.."

[–] teft@piefed.social 7 points 3 weeks ago

It's like none of these morons remember being a teen.

Blocks never stopped us from getting into things because teens have a lot more time to just fiddle with shit until they find a way in. Can't get into dad's computer? Go to a friends house and find a tutorial on privilege escalation or adding admin accounts or using portable apps to bypass parental locks. Hell today it's way easier since you can just web search that shit. Back in the day you had to find niche IRC channels or little known websites.

All this is going to do is create a bunch of tech nerds.

As long as that tax goes on all bible sales. After all there is a lot of porn in the bible.
