Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty on Friday urged the public to send any video or evidence of the fatal shooting of Renee Good directly to her office, despite the Trump administration assigning the investigation solely to the FBI.

Why It Matters

The FBI has barred Minnesota law enforcement from joining the investigation or reviewing key evidence in the fatal shooting, asserting full federal control over the case.

Local prosecutors said they are weighing legal options as Gov. Tim Walz urged federal officials to reconsider, warning that early statements from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem defending the agent could undermine confidence in the probe’s fairness.

I'm sorry but am I to ignore what I saw on the already released videos? The pig put his gun through the driver side window and pulled the trigger. At no point was the car going to hit him. It's unbelievable they are even trying to lie about this.

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 24 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They aren't lying per se. They are seeing what kind of narrative they can get away with.

The lies are not for us.

They are for their base.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 26 points 2 months ago

It's gaslighting. And it's the same as lying as far as I'm concerned. These people need to go

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 4 points 2 months ago (2 children)

There's footage from his phone. The car did hit him, but it's also clear she didn't intend to do so. The wheels are turned past him and it just clipped him because he was standing way too close. Still his fault.

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

If I walk into a wall, did I hit the wall or did the wall hit me.

[–] kofe@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This is a compilation put together by the New York Times: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8f8waUK/

He was not touched.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I can't play it because I don't have a tiktock account.

[–] kofe@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Rip. I wish I could embed it. You can verify elsewhere. He was absolutely not touched outside of he himself putting his hand on the vehicle. He was a few feet out of the way. He put himself in that position to begin with anyway. So while I'd have sympathy if he were hurt, I still wouldn't have blamed her in the slightest. ICE training (and border patrol if I've understood correctly does) should never encourage how he approached her.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

It’s believable they are going to lie, as that’s what they do. It’s unbelievable that they will get away with it. Even though that's also what they do.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca -3 points 2 months ago

no need to give them ammo - when she started moving forward, she was still in the process of turning to the right, and he was in front of the vehicle.

Yes he immediately moved out of the way before firing at her, but there was a short window where the car was moving towards him (keep in mind that vehicles move forward as they move to the side)

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 54 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Good. I hope it works.

I know many people say "oh another sternly worded letter" or "no way the cops will comply" but what else can we do? If there's no State of Law all is lost anyhow. For MAGA, too. Even declaring martial law or deploying national troops requires people respecting the rule of law.

Maybe the county attorney should go marching in the protests with the others? Well, maybe she does. But this is her area of expertise, and she should use what she's best at to fight back.

[–] HellsBelle@sh.itjust.works 20 points 2 months ago

America should just walk out of work and surround every FBI office and the WH until they give back ALL the evidence.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 2 months ago

schumer and hakeem sure are doing the "strongly worded letters" right now about ice.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 40 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

We live in an interesting time, where nearly everyone has the ability to record anything, at any time. It's probably one of the worst time periods for a Fascist movement to start. They rely on controlling the narrative in order to deny the truth, and right now a citizen with a cell phone can seize control with the truth instead.

When AI figures out how to manipulate cell phone video to fit a narrative in real time, though, we're all screwed .

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago

CNN with AI!

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 2 months ago

thats what palintir is for. how to drump up evidence when there is none, to give excuses to LEO, and ice.

[–] FukOui@lemmy.zip 30 points 2 months ago (1 children)

What is there to investigate? We got multiple videos showing that the officer shot her unwarranted

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 32 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They still have to establish proof beyond a reasonable doubt in order to convict. That includes investigating the source of each video, taking statements from whoever made them that they are authentic, and some analysis to further corroborate that the videos are authentic.

And then, even beyond that, they may need to further investigate the agent, to try and establish that this act goes beyond whatever qualified immunity he gets as a Federal agent.

There is a huge burden to prove this in a court of law. Unfortunately, this agent gets the benefit of all that process if he is ever a criminal defendant. His victim didn't get that benefit, he just decided she needed to go and she was gone. But it's the way our system works.

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

And part of fighting fascism is using the systems as designed. Yes, it's slow, yes it's uncomfortable. But we cannot undo the crime. We can only bring justice. And flawless execution of that system highlights the importance of the system the fascists are attempting to destroy.

[–] FukOui@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

The system only works if someone is enforcing the system and if the system is fair and just. But from what I see, these doesn't seem to be the case.

And also the last time we fought against fascism was not with words or writing, but with blood and sacrifice. (Ww2)

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

The system has enforcement capabilities outside of the federal government. I tire of explaining that though.

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 30 points 2 months ago

Where is the arrest warrant and indictment? There is more than enough evidence to support an arrest.

[–] favoredponcho@lemmy.zip 22 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Minnesota should issue an arrest warrant for Jonathan Ross. Make him a fugitive and freeze his bank accounts

[–] Klox@lemmy.world 20 points 2 months ago

I'm so disappointed in Illinois over Silverio Villegas Gonzalez's murder. They have a lot of video too but AFAIK not "the shot" moment. DHS acted illegally and shot him while he was driving away. The state has done nothing. NOTHING. We've abandoned justice and I have a hard time coming to terms with that. I hope Minnesota does better.

[–] Hotzilla@sopuli.xyz 15 points 2 months ago (1 children)

If someone dies or even gets injury, there should always be investigation, and those that did wrong must be held responsible.

Hell, here in Finland EVERY time cop shoots a gun, it is investigated.

Cops and especially immigration agents are not above the law. No one is.

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Finish cops probably don't have qualified immunity.

[–] Hotzilla@sopuli.xyz 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

No, here we trust our police. They are investigated often, and are held responsible.

They are required to have bachelor level degree in police school (3 years). Standards for getting in are quite high.

[–] BigMacHole@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 months ago

EDUCATED Cops sounds DANGEROUS! I would MUCH Prefer we give Randos guns and Immunity INSTEAD like what we're LITERALLY DOING WITH ICE (who we're ALSO allowing into our Schools and Around our Children!)!

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago

This is the way. Triple down on the investigation. Quadruple if you have to.

Until this motherfucker is getting booked for his murder.

[–] BotsRuinedEverything@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

I absolutely guarantee that 47 is trying to instigate world war.. civil war.. regional conflict.. anything to justify declaring martial law. The one and only goal of this administration is to suspend free elections. It's so obvious we will all be culpable when it happens.

A pox on both your houses.

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Hopefully "investigate" is just the professionally appropriate euphemism for "drafting an indictment"

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 2 months ago

arrest the fools, instead of empty words.
