Mr Burns vibes
Actually, they don't.
When Denmark sold the Danish West Indies to USA in 1916-1917, part of that deal was to ratify that USA accepted the full Danish ownership of Greenland.
At the time, this was done to keep Norway from making claims to Greenland.
But anyway, we quite literally have a document written by USA and signed by USA stating that Denmark alone owns Greenland.
Edit: Took some time to find, but here it is signed by U.S Secretary of State Robert Lansing who made the deal under President Woodrow Wilson.

I don't think this administration gives a shit about documents, precedent, or the rule of law.
They don't give a shit because nobody is holding them accountable. The rest of the western world is waiting for the American people to start holding their government accountable and it's just not happening.
It didn't happen in Germany or Japan even after they were firebombed and / or nuked.
People really don't like holding power - even the formerly poweful - to account; and people in power generally don't like it either (unless it suits them).
I suspect it's partly because doing so would lead to the obvious question: who gave then the power in the first place?
“Nobody’s going to fight the United States militarily over the future of Greenland,” Mr. Miller told Jake Tapper
“We live in a world, in the real world, Jake, that is governed by strength, that is governed by force, that is governed by power,” he said. “These are the iron laws of the world since the beginning of time.”
“The United States of America is running Venezuela,” Mr. Miller said, dismissing international treaties enshrining a nation’s right to independence and sovereignty as “international niceties.”
He's not arguing we have some 'legal' right, he's arguing that since we have a military, we can do whatever we want wherever we want so long as no one is able to successfully stop us...
He's giving some serious Hitler vibes. Also, Thrasymachus.
He's also basically saying that if anyone is capable of violently overthrowing the US, then they have a right to do so.
Also, dismissing international treaties as "niceties" comes very close to treason, as he's basically saying to disregard the laws as they were written by constitutional authority.
If legal documents no longer count for anything, then neither does the constitution. That would mean the US government has no legal authority.
It's a dangerously slippery slope, but I think he's lusting for the chaos that would result.
Miller to CNN Host Jake Tapper:
“We live in a world, in the real world, Jake, that is governed by strength, that is governed by force, that is governed by power,” he said. “These are the iron laws of the world since the beginning of time.”
Stephen Miller is a sociopath, a fascist and a deeply insecure wannabe bully with a massive inferiority complex, second only to Trump.
Make no mistake: This is it, the fascist and authoritarian takeover that history has been warning us about for 80 years. It’s back. These people will do everything in their power to make this happen, and they mean what they say. Greenland and Canada are already boosting defense spending. The world is gearing up for war in response to the belligerent Hitler-like threats from Trump and Putin.
It will be almost impossible to prevent the use of nuclear weapons in a third world war. If Trump and the neo-fascist Republican Party are not removed from power soon, they will attempt to take over our half of the world. China will take Taiwan, and Putin will shoot for Europe after support for Ukraine wanes. When they’re finished, they’ll all turn on each other.
That is where this kind of naked violence-is-the only-true-power kind of logic leads.
I think historians looking back (assuming there are any) will say we're already in the early stages of WW3. These are the opening moves of a global conflict.
I wish that directly following that tirade about strength and power, Jake Tapper had punched the absolute fuck out of Stephen's face and made him bawl his Nazi eyes out right in front of the cameras for his Nazi fans to be embarrassed by. Why was big balls the only Nazi that's gotten his ass kicked lately?
Everybody should watch this documentary about the rise of fascism in the US.
It's more relevant than ever.
Stephen miller asserts obviously morally objectionable thing. Gets red in the face and foams at the mouth trying to appear confident when attempting to explain it's logic or morality.
More at 6.
Yaah, the guy's got terminal "little man's" disease.
Also, he's a tool.
As a little man, I resent being associated with this person.
You are not little.
You are undertall and are mentally well balanced, thankyouverymuch.
It's wild to me that the US is going to make a run at taking over the world. Growing up here in the 80s and 90s we were taught that we were the country that prevented anyone else from trying that. Hell we, according to our schooling, ended both world wars.
I don't mean that I grew up trusting the government, but it wasn't on my life bingo card that we would ever attempt world conquest. Trump was a guy everybody made fun of when I was a kid, so him as president was unexpected the first time, and unimaginable a second time after his first performance.
We live in a bad novel. The plot is stupid and the characters suck and the ending is going to be ugly.
we were the country that prevented anyone else from trying that
And what better way than just doing it ourselves!
Dear Americans,
I know there are some of you that are still good people, but the polls show that over 80% of Republicans and 30% of Independents (edit.. Fixed this) support this President. Overall is about 40%. Fucking two in five. This is fucking insane.
Know this: If you invade Mexico, it will very likely be WW3. If you invade Greenland it most certainly will be. Everyone that I know in Canada is preparing.
If you are a good American, you are at a turning point RIGHT NOW. You may be past the point where protest matters. Maybe a general strike is the next step. And maybe that cherished 2A, which you've paid for in the blood of dead children, needs to be exercised. The point wasn't just to look cool shooting your guns. You know what the purpose of the 2A is, and it's ugly and it's hard.
I'm telling you as a Canadian that if you talk about it and deliberate it, and talk about how people are acting and talk about how people are talking about it, you're wasting precious time. You need to ACT and you need to ACT NOW. I'm sorry, but it has to be you guys. You have friends and support in other countries, but YOU are the ones that need to lead it.
Edit. Looks like I upset some Americans. That's really unfortunate for you. If you think you didn't ask for this, think about how I feel in another country. You have the means to upset things, I do not. Take some responsibility.
Edit 2. To all of the good hearted and suffering Americans who read this, I want to pull back a bit. I know there are good people, I have family and friends in the US. In my defense there is a lot happening very quickly, and the potential for actual, existential impact to me and my family is becoming real enough that I've started a trigger based prep plan and have started reconnecting with my CAF contacts. In the last few days this has ratcheted up to a new level. I'm really fucking angry. I'm angry at everyone. I'm angry that I couldn't give my kids a future in a better world than I had. Yes I'm angry at you but not at you in particular. In fact I want you to have courage and strength because I realize what you face is also an existential threat. I want you to succeed. I need you to succeed. Please look past my anger and realize that you do have people around the world who will rise up and support you, who will fuel the fire. But we can't light it. That's all on you guys.
I’m simply going to say that the reaction to your comment is also a big part of the problem in the US. We are so hopelessly divided that we don’t even know where to start, much less how to talk about it. It frustrates me on a constant and enraging basis.
Also, you’re screaming to the void a bit. Making a plea to Americans as a whole on Lemmy is like burping into a mailbox and expecting the weather to change.
No offense meant, and I agree with the meat of your sentiment. Nor am I dismissing what you said - just giving my insight as someone who sees what this country is and what it’s about on the daily.
His assertion is that might makes right, so according to Stephen Miller, all Denmark has to do is shoot him in the face.
Giving the most pathetically weak men on earth an Airforce during their ongoing and accelerating masculinity crisis was a bad move.
- Recall ambassadors
- Cease trade
- Invite an apology and clarification of position.
This is the only response.
Dude what the actual fuck is going on?
We shouldn't have killed the fucking gorillla, that's what's going on.
People are rapidly finding out that international law is merely a gentleman’s agreement unless you have the military capability to enforce it.
Not to put too fine a point on it but this is exactly what the entire rest of the world would say when 2A cultists would talk about how "guns keep da gubmint in check".
Maybe, instead of wasting money, blood and political capital on making sure every psycho could pack heat it may have been wiser to spend it on firming up the laws and protecting against exactly what is happening now. For example, maybe a President responsible for a coup should not have been on the ballot.
So what? Miller sprays his bald head with paint.
I'm not even kidding
Never listen to a head painter
The other day Stephen Miller was on Jake Tapper's show and was ranting about how everything went bad after the end WWII.
I can understand why some people want to go back to how things were in the 50s and 60s because there was a lot of economic prosperity then.
But Stephen Miller wants to go back to the times before the Nazis were defeated. So that's a little unusual, isn't it?
According to...what? His pathetic need to be the biggest boy on the playground?
Aside from the bull he is spreading. This guy is creepy. His stance looking slightly over his shoulder and his jerky motions. Like he was under a stimulant influence.
Our military needs to be reminded that they work for the Constitution, not a fucking pedophile rapist felon dictator. If the Pedo-in-Chief gives an illegal order or something that is just plain wrong, then need to grow a fucking spine and say no. Quit if you have to. Protest. Attacking other countries because a fascist PoS tells you to is like following Hitler's orders--- you wanna be remembered as being like fucking Hitler??? Wtf
Miller is a moron. They all are. Not a single clean conscience among them
Someone needs to send an Italian plumber for this scumbag
"you can't just say bankruptcy"
"I didn't say it, I asserted it"
Miller will say whatever he thinks Trump wants him to say. Just remember it for the war crimes trials.
It's probably closer to the other way around... Before Trump was even voted in again Miller was out talking about how he wanted to see republican governors deploy their state's national guard into democrat run states, openly calling for military invasion of some states by others...
If anything, Trump is downright moderate compared to the lengths Miller would want to do.
And I assert my right to say “fuck you.”
