[–] polle@feddit.org 10 points 1 day ago

You cannot make this shit up.

[–] termaxima@slrpnk.net 7 points 1 day ago

Don't confuse it with Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Copilot app ! 😂

Hey there, laptop, looks like you’re going to be a linux machine now.

"Jerry, could you come into my 365 copilot?" - some boss at Microsoft probably.

[–] Nalivai@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

- also Jerry's wife.

They are trying so fucking hard, it’s so sad. Especially when everyone saw that report of them slashing AI related metrics because nobody is fucking using it.

I can’t wait to build my new PC and install Linux. Cannot wait.

I want this AI bubble to burst so bad, let all this bullshit go up in flames. I want to go back to 2017 when videocards and ram were reasonably priced 🥲

[–] best_redditor@leminal.space 2 points 1 day ago

i want to say we won't see 2017 this century but i genuinely do not care if we ever see it again,i just want it to end one way or other so i myself will accept any crossfires from these lizards just to end this nightmare.

Excel --> Copilot Calculate (356) App

Word --> Copilot 365 Live Notepad

Outlook --> Team 365 Share Copilot App

PowerPoint --> Visual Copilot App Live

Visio --> untouched

[–] Michal@programming.dev 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I genuinely can't tell if it's true or satire 😳

[–] bhamlin@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's true. Visio is untouched by these changes.

https://www.microsoft.com/de-de/microsoft-365/buy/compare-all-microsoft-365-products

Still listed as the old names.

Where did you get your information?

[–] atmorous@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

It jus clicked for me why they call it copilot. Hated it since it was announced and even more now. Everybody should be flying solo

[–] oftenawake@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 2 days ago
[–] lemmydividebyzero@reddthat.com 81 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Damn, our customers don't use copilot, but we promised to reach 50% usage in 2026...

That's it... Rename the whole thing to copilot and we achieve our goal!

I have had open office installed on my computer since 2008. While back then word wasn't complete shit I was still using it for many years. But now there is nothing Libre office has that word doesn't so fuck MS office.

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 62 points 2 days ago (3 children)

My LibreOffice is still called LibreOffice.

Surely they wanted to name it Microsoft 365 Copilot Slop, but the CEO was against that.

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

so AI psychosis goes both ways it seems

Using any bloatsoft product is a joke at this point, unless your job or school forces you to do so

Why couldn't they just stick with Office... It's 100% explanatory, short, and to the point.

365 never made sense to me. Is it supposed to represent the year? Like available 24/7 but instead it's there for you 365 days of the year? And if that's the case why the fuck would I care? It's software, of course it's available to me whenever I want. It's not a 7/11 hotdog rotisserie.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 46 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I think it has to do with how often you pay for it. With Office, you just buy it, then you own it. With Office 365, you have to pay for it 365 days a year. You just never stop paying for it.

Why?

Why is every company right now making it impossible to understand what their app does?

I swear to fucking god, I’ve been looking for SAAS products at work to fill a role, they’re all branded as AI and not what the companies actually fucking do.

Office has like a 40 year plus reputation as THE office suite. What the fuck us copilot? That cheap knockoff OpenAI they debuted before it was really?

[–] PostProcess@lemmy.world 214 points 3 days ago (9 children)

Because AI on its own doesn't actually make a return, but by conflating the AI investment with a genuine productivity tool that's making money, you can start to hide your poor choices.

Boy, that company should probably fire the CEO, what with him forcing it to commit suicide.

[–] melfie@lemy.lol 26 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Don’t really care what they call it, I’m not paying a subscription for software or running anything in the cloud that could just as well run locally. The fact that there are decent open source alternatives means they can do all the dumb shit they want and we don’t have to care.

Will they rename Windows (Winslop) to "CopilotOS"? If yes, I'll nuke Windows 10 (!) from my SSD, then replace it with Manjaro or some similar simplified Arch derivative, as my main OS.

My kid destroyed my newish laptop and I could only pluck the memory off it to salvage something. So I am back to surfing and doing office projects on my old Alienware Aurora R4 from 2011 running Windows 7. No more gaming for me but also, no need for office products for now and the foreseeable future. Today it would cost me almost double to replace the laptop he destroyed with how much my memory and graphics card would cost. I am so happy that when my Office 360 is up in March I can tell them to fuck off. I am not now nor will ever be a fan of having to pay you over $100 a year so I can open a Word Doc or an old Excel spreadsheet. I am using the web-mail version of my email so I no longer need your Outlook, either.

And..... since I have been hanging out on Lemmy I have seen way too many posts about Linux and gaming to ever think I will buy a windows product again. I miss not playing my Flight Sim and games like Madden but I will never upgrade this OS on this old beast.

Like others I am looking forward to the day when I can build my new computer and install Linux on it and enjoy gaming again.

What I’m about to tell you might shock you, as it doesn't get brought up hardly at all, ever, but… linux.

So all of the Microsoft 365 users become instantly AI users? Microsoft gonna report after months that AI users surged the first months of 2026, stocks gonna go up, shareholders happy.

I really like libreoffice honestly. In my job I have to use docs but I find myself copying from libre office most of the time. Prior to that, I used to create all my visuals with office and do my graphs in excel. So I’ve tried a few different ways to do things. Libre reminds me of old school products and I kind of like that. Plus it does what I want with shapes. Which is nice when I need to make visuals. I still use excel though, for now.

We’re…never going to say any of that. It’s Microsoft 365, or 365 for short. Even that sounds stupid. Office is what people understand, 365 always requires explaining.

MS is so exhausting.

Why do I feel 2026 is gonna be a fucking nightmare…?

[–] JustEnoughDucks@feddit.nl 2 points 1 day ago

On the bright side, this change has been around for 9 months at least because they had already changed it when I was doing IT stuff at my last job and it was impossible to find where to actually download the office suite.
