List of Best Rated TV Series as voted by the Fediverse
It didn't! If you really watched MTV the past years, you would notice the content was nothing but songs. All these cool shows back in the millenium, where thrown in the pit.
I had 15 MTV channels on my satelite box, all of them playing old songs mostly.
I think I quit watching MTV back when they took a nosedive into reality TV
It's been a while
This is kind of funny and ironic given the outcry when they switched from showing music videos, to doing only shows. Now it's the opposite.
I lost my. I lost my. I lost my MTV (about 30 years ago).
Adhd killed the video star.

Thanks, MTV, for 3 years of music television.
Nah, there was a good decade of actual music on there. It was all downhill once "The Real World" came out.
Lmao
This move affects MTV’s dedicated music-only channels, not the main MTV network, which will continue airing reality shows and pop culture programming.
To be fair, it died a long time ago.
This move affects MTV’s dedicated music-only channels, not the main MTV network, which will continue airing reality shows and pop culture programming. In the U.K. and across parts of Europe, channels like MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV, and MTV Live are being removed from Sky and Virgin Media lineups. In the U.S., remaining regional cable feeds that still carried music-only MTV programming are also slated to go dark as distribution contracts expire.

Mtv died when rob dyrdek took control of like all the programming. Possibly before that, when it just became reality TV crap.
The real world wet the slope.
I don’t want my MTV
I liked MTV when they told us about cool stuff. Their street cred evaporated when they tried to dictate what was cool.
I remember when Yo MTV Raps was on prime time, and Headbangers Ball died. It's like they switched from one genre to another overnight.
Vanessa Warwick, one of my first TV crushes.
I grew up on MTV when it was music videos and once again I have "mtv" on the cable I get with my apt but it's called Xite. It's 24/7 music videos. I put it on in the background almost daily.
Hey Al, you can call me Betty.
A more appropriate singer of the song than Paul Simon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUhxElgh6ns
That's awesome! I never knew he did that cover. Thanks for sharing!
And Betty, when you call me, you can call me Al.
TRUMPET!!!
complex bass solo
Now i gotta go listen to Graceland. I hope you're happy.
Boop, Crocker, or the kind that leaves you as the sole bell hop in one of the towns most prestigious hotels on NYE?
Nah, the guy who knows a girl with Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes.
Reality killed the video star, reality killed the video star, Real World came and broke your heart
As a kid growing up in the 80s MTV was just always there and always referenced after say '85 in tv and movies as everyone knows it. But I am Canadian we only had Much Music after we moved and couldn't take our satellite dish (never watched much anyways to be honest I was under 10). Similar but definitely the budget version.
Always remember the music video with puppet Reagan hitting the nuke button. Though I did watch many videos back in the day....prefer electronica style music though so was never my thing back then even.

*checks current date*
So like.. the 31st of December 2025 or the 1st of January 2026?
By the end of this year, MTV’s remaining 24-hour music channels will shut down globally..
So like, did it just shut down or will it shut down by the end of 2026?
EDIT: Luckily the comments on that article actually show the real date instead of published 3 days ago, so it looks like MTV just shut down in 2025.
TIL:
- MTV was still alive in 2025
- MTV Still had 24 hour music channels after say... 1993?
- MTV, much to my great surprise was able to keep the lights on past 2000!
Oh noes what will all the fans of ridiculousness dooooooooooo?
EM/ does a fullscorpion in tribute.
