The greatest threat to crapitalists is the possibility of the elimination of manufactured scarcity.

They know the moment we actually start exploiting resources in space their game is over. They see NASA as a direct threat to their way of life. Instead odf adapting to profit off it, they would rather point their machines towards us like zookeepers keeping us all suffering in this cage they built.

You're giving them too much credit of foresight. I think it's more a function of 'can we profit off of it this quarter? No? This year at least? No? Then fuck it."

They would love to have space hypercapitalism. Getting there is hard and more importantly expensive tho, so they won't really try. Even shit like the Melon's rockets are basically a scam to get the money NASA used to get and results off of it are secondary and incidental to the scam.

Hell of a way to run a space race

I was a research engineer at an FFDRC and left to Europe. I have known multiple who have including a very senior researcher at NASA JPL.

I know people here who decided to come here instead of the US over Trump. One had an offer to University of Oklahoma she declined, another declined an offer from Columbia.

The brain drain has started.

Eventually Trump will go on Truth Social and say something like "NASA was a mess a total mess but I fixed it," and he'll effectively, publicly, and openly solicit bribes for juicy civilian space contracts. And Space Force needs rocket guys who make the rockets to put SPACE SOLDIERS into orbit. The fact that SPACE SOLDIERS won't actually be going into space any time soon is just a minor detail.

I wonder if Bezos and Musk will get the lion's share of the contracts.

Obama already did that in 2011

The amount of the cuts in context of the federal budget are like a few pennies hidden under couch seat cushions. But the damage the cuts will do is huge.

In its budget request to Congress in June, the Trump administration proposed slashing NASA’s budget by almost 25 percent, prompting a public letter of protest signed by several hundred NASA employees. NASA’s science arm, which includes climate and earth science, solar-system missions and astrophysics, would face a cut of 47 percent, to $3.9 billion from $7.3 billion.

Nineteen currently operating science missions, including the Chandra X-ray Observatory, the Juno mission at Jupiter and the two Orbiting Carbon Observatories, which measure atmospheric distribution of planet-warming carbon dioxide, would be turned off under the plan.

They want to drive this to be privatized, and it will suck. Things that depend on these services will also be boarded up and replaced with worse, more expensive alternatives motivated by profit.
