Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. 4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Everything else aside, it's just incredibly distasteful (understatement) to slap your own name on somebody else's memorial. Who TF thinks this is a good look?

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 40 points 1 month ago (5 children)

What next, the Vietnam war and Donald j trump memorial?

[–] lividweasel@lemmy.world 39 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Come on. Don’t be ridiculous.

He wouldn’t put his name second.

Donald J Trump presents "The Losers and Suckers" of Vietnam Memorial

[–] Kirp123@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I mean, if he's dumb enough to link his name to the Vietnam war, let him.

The Donald J. Trump and Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone

The Donald J. Trump and Jesus Christmas.

[–] mcv@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago

I suppose we should be grateful he didn't rename the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of Donald Trump.

[–] ramble81@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

A memorial implies something I’m all for when it comes to that Cheeto.

Donald J Trump Memorial Urinal

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Or maybe a memorial to his personal Vietnam

[–] bcgm3@lemmy.world 36 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Trashy and shitty is the whole brand! I'm surprised he didn't have his name made 5x larger and spraypainted gold, complete with vinyl sticker of Calvin pissing on JFK's line.

[–] ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I don't think the intent is to make the center look good - it's to humiliate.

[–] Keilik@lemmy.world 35 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I personally think it’s a fragile man trying to create a legacy. It’s kinda just stolen valor but with buildings

[–] ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

The two aren't mutually exclusive. Consider certain graffiti. The person tagging a building doesn't think that he is improving it. Rather, he is showing that he has the power to put his name on places where other people don't want it. In doing so, he asserts dominance. That's what legacy is in a zero-sum mindset where success must mean someone else's failure - a record of whom he defeated.

Dumbasses mouth-breathers that just want to "own the libs".

The Sarah Palin floor of this country - probably about 20-30% of the country. And they stroke off to this kind of thing.

[–] dickalan@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

maybe this is Trump admitting that he's going to die Super soon

[–] scala@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 month ago

The Peru shamans predict his death in 2026

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 127 points 1 month ago (2 children)

The revisions also feature a provision saying the president can be appointed as the chief executive officer and can be compensated for the position.

So he's making money off this. What a surprise.

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 30 points 1 month ago

I believe he also gets royalties from shows due to the name change, so it’s a double grift.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 13 points 1 month ago

No conflict of interest to see here: move along.

[–] manxu@piefed.social 70 points 1 month ago (2 children)

So nobody but Merrick Garland and Joe Biden knows why they slow-walked the Trump cases, dragging them on for four years.

But if the renaming of the Kennedy Center is not undone within 24 hours of this shit show ending, I will do the unthinkable and post a sternly worded comment in my Hello Kitty diary!

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 6 points 1 month ago

Chuck Shumer, is that you?

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago

If you believe Joe Biden... it's because he believes that he should be impartial to the DOJ.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 49 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Takes an act of Congress to rename it anyway.

[–] spongebue@lemmy.world 30 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Ditto Department of Defense

[–] Kirp123@lemmy.world 27 points 1 month ago (9 children)

Congress doesn't seem to do anything to stop him so why would he care?

Bingo! I never cared, but now I know that this is IN FACT the case. Congress, what's it feel like to have someone erode your congressional powers? As a US citizen, I can tell you, I think you should be 'up in arms'.

[–] varnia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 44 points 1 month ago (3 children)

You US Americans take one hit after another like real champions till there will be nothing left to hit you with.

[–] ramble81@lemmy.zip 19 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Given that a chunk of Americans want to go back to the 1950s, unmitigated domestic abuse sounds par for the course.

[–] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I want to go back to the 1950's... tax rate. Where billionaires/millionaires pay 91% tax. That is a regressive move I can get behind.

[–] dreadbeef@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 1 month ago

90% of americans will never see this headline

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 1 month ago (2 children)

We've still got a few hands to play, and honestly the next one is looking really good. We have an election in November and MAGA is on the run. Incumbents in record numbers are declining to run and defend their seats, primarily because they know they'll probably lose. Dems only need to flip a handful of seats across all 430+ districts to take control of the House, and have investigative, subpoena, and arrest powers, and it is starting to look like a bloodbath.

IF the Democrats choose to boldly grasp the opportunity. I sooo want them to do that, but I so fear they won't.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

November is a looong way away.

The only way they can win is by cheating, but we all just keep letting them cheat, so whats even the point.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 8 points 1 month ago
