i literally do not believe it, people will lie about what they were arrested over because who's gonna admit to doing something horrible

Hoi4 alt-history mods have been a disaster for online political discourse and directly lead to a rise in great man theory and supermarket ideology shopping so I’m giving China W points on this one.
My source: me being really mad at the amount of times people have proposed Syndicalism as a magic political theory online
Hell yeah

Lmao, is there really an article about "The Woke Chinese Communist Party"?
I don't remember this.
I'm leaning towards China L here. Getting detained over a mod is super OTT, especially reading what the actual content is.
I know we all love China here but stuff like this or putting queer fiction authors in prison fucking sucks ass
putting queer fiction authors in prison
I don't believe this happened. I first read about it from an extremely shitty Radio Free Asia article and every subsequent article I read about it was similarly low on detail, high on inference.
I do believe some people who were monetizing queer fanfic on a particular website got arrested and fined. From reading between the lines of all these shitty articles about the situation, it really looked, to me, like the monetization was the problem, not the queerness.
Now, should you trust my reading of this situation? No. I don't speak Mandarin, I never did a deep dive, I don't know shit about fuck, I'm a dumbass on the internet.
But I also wouldn't trust Radio Free Asia's read on the situation, and when you say "China put queer fiction authors in prison", that's what you're doing.
Porn is illegal in China. That sucks but it's not like they're specifically going after gay people.
I'd withhold judgement on what actually happened until we have more information since we're basically just going off of a second-hand Twitter post. @doublepepperoni@hexbear.net
Perhaps that's what happened, but I'd hope we'd be used to the fact that people jump to conclusions, push misleading headlines, etc. all the time. There's adequate reason to think some CPC actor contacted the dev team, which is not that surprising with a mod that can be a "Taiwan defeats and balkanizes China" sim from the sound of it (among other things), but the Discord post does not even mention someone getting detained.
If we can't trust posts from admins who can we trust
As hoi4 player: They deserved it
Is there some other source for them getting detained? The discord announcement doesn't say as such and this Twitter user seems not normal: https://nitter.net/Prototype27F/status/2004400417229402553#m

As I understand from the replies on this thread, Ig it's an exaggeration of the overreaction of Chinese gov't.
I believe as long as the devs don't publish stuff like "Long live God Emperor Hirohito, death to all ch_namen!", any crackdown on any media is just censorship.
So some cops came and door knocked one of them asking about it and the entire mod team collectively shit their pants.
Over reaction on the part of the modteam tbh.
Because you don’t fuck around in China when the cops invite you to “drink tea”.
If that's the case for the average person making a videogame mod China absolutely needs to dial shit back a bit because it's ridiculous.
The rich should be this scared. A bunch of map painting nerds making a mod that might have some brainworms but is otherwise alright should not be. If they're spooking both this much they've got the balance wrong.
Isn't China extremely controlling of anything that could be considered "publishing" in China? I remember a while back there was a Chinese guy who wrote dumb fantasy web novels, and one of them had some content that the government didn't like and they basically told him that webnovel had to end, period. He could write other stuff but that one was done lol
I wouldn't be surprised if something similar happened here
Edit: Here's a
thread about it actually: https://www.reddit.com/r/ReverendInsanity/comments/1chfbxu/about_the_ban/
Least hexbear hexbear post I've ever read on hexbear
Unfortunately almost certainly fictional
What was the mod about?
Seems like just some HOI IV chud mod created by chud devs who added their fantasies to the mod.
The year is 2020. The United States and Iran are locked in a Cold War-era standoff, while a mysterious novel virus has been spreading uncontrollably through central China. Russia, Saudi Arabia, and other nations brace for the shockwaves of a volatile oil market, and the Syrian Civil War enters an uncertain phase.
In America, tensions are reaching a breaking point. The nation teeters on a profound social unrest — just one spark away. Disillusionment with the government grows as Congress and the people drift further apart as it is seen more and more as an institution incapable of making meaningful change. Across the country, communities prepare for the unknown. Guns are being displayed openly in numbers never seen before.
The worst is yet to come.
The fire rises, and the stage is yours. The peace that has persisted across the globe for 80 years will falter, and war across all continents will bring about a New World, forged in the flames of war and christened with the blood of millions.
The Fire Rises is a mod set in a world not too far from our own, and it's small differences... a dead king here, some increased tension there... set its universe on a completely different path, but still a path that feels eerily familiar to our own.
All factions within TFR are real life organizations or closely built to mirror certain groups, and are represented as their organization would view themselves. Your play-through will always represent you as the right side of history, just as these groups believe. This mod is also very difficult and aims to provide a challenge to all of its players, so keep that in mind while playing!
The peace that has persisted across the globe for 80 years
What fucking world peace? Where was peace for the Koreans. For the Vietnamese. For the Iraqi. For the Libyans. For the Afghans. For the Yugoslavs. For all the many wars in Africa. All the wars in the last 80 years.
What "peace" was it for all the people in countries the CIA fucked with?

Yeah based on this description alone I am 100% in support of China telling them to shut the fuck up
while a mysterious novel virus has been spreading uncontrollably through central China
so mysterious that it had already spread through Maryland a year before and had already mutated lmao
absolute dog-brained dweebs
I wouldn't say its all that chuddy. The china paths in particular are basically
- Win taiwan war, become super version of current china with Xi
- Lose taiwan war, become super marxist-leninist version of china
- Lose taiwan war, balkanize
I played the top two paths and they were fun. There is also a pretty underdeveloped path for Russia becoming USSR again which was alright.
Last, there is an America civil war between biden/trump which is fun, with a couple ML paths in there as well, underdeveloped currently.
I agree too, it's fun to play if you consider the chuddy paths (especially the Gunther EU one the TFR subreddit has been cheering about) to be completely batshit insane and only an obstacle to world socialism. I'd say it's an overreaction, and a shame because I posted my HOI4 TFR China game here, got to larp a lot during so, and overall, I'm saddened by the situation, since now the China development will be unknown in how it develops, especially since I wanted them to develop a super ML China that you don't have to lose the Taiwan War for..
I'd say it has it's liberal and chud elements (especially in regards to the American Civil War and how they portray the MLs, compared to the main two Trumpist/Biden-aligned factions) but can overall be fun as a communist to play.
Though, yeah I'm curious why the PRC TFR devs withdrawed.. Maybe because of the whole Gunther Fehlinger (WEF-aligned ultralib) pretty much streaming and endorsing TFR while the devs are amicable? The detention doesn't seem to be confirmed just yet..
Gunther Fehlinger (WEF-aligned ultralib)
Hey, don't sell our favorite balkanization enthusiast short like that.
I don't know dick about these confounded map games or this mod but this seems like a pretty wild overreaction by the authorities
Unfortunately the American leftist paths kinda suck compared to China, Yurop or the neo-USSR.
You have:
-
Neosocialists: DemSocs trying to “reform” a system they literally just fought a war to tear down.
-
Octoberists: MLs who are largely portrayed positively but implement a sinister commie party-state with surveillance and censorship, and also SwCC even in games where China abandons it because why the fuck not. Content is most lackluster of the four.
-
Anarchists: A Chud’s idea of Anarchism.
-
Jacobins: PatSocs and all that entails.
In terms of ForPol, aside from a few focuses, you more or less just sit on your ass and do very little aside from sending a handful of volunteers here and there. You can’t even join the USSR’s neo-Warsaw Pact or intervene in the Great Asian War in support of China (even Kaiserreich lets Red America join the Third Internationale and bash some skulls and that mod is almost a decade old).
I recall the APLA paths are at least being reworked at some point but when that actually happens is anyone’s guess.
Unlimited arrests on Gamers
Lmao i love when calls for AES states to crack on G*mers suddenly turns into ACAB when they do crack.
Blood thicker than water or something like that.
Was getting caught part of their plan?
