/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

You're doing it wrong!

There is a theory that if anyone ever discovered the true nature of how the universe works, it would disappear and be replaced with something even more bizarre and inexplicable.
There is another theory that this has already happened.

This is a quote from a book called The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

Congratulations, you are one of today's lucky ten thousand, and you are in for a treat! (If you like ~~absurdist~~ British humor

Amusingly the text in the image comes from the same book

[–] CyberEgg@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Maybe, when I'm through the Disc World books.

[–] dalekcaan@feddit.nl 4 points 17 hours ago

I'd definitely recommend it if you like Discworld. I personally feel like Hitchhikers Guide is to science fiction in many ways what Discworld is to fantasy.

[–] SirSamuel@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

dalekcaan is 100% right. Sir Pterry's early books are downright Adamsinian, and while his later books trade the silliness for sharp social commentary, the humor and wit never diminish.

Where are you in your Discworld journey? Which is your favorite so far?

I'm in Men at Arms, reading in release order. I have no favourite book (I rarely have favorites of any kind), I like most of them very much, though Pyramids, ~~Faust~~ Eric and Small Gods didn't quite hit my taste. Also, Death is a hilariously relatable character.

You need to read the book mate...

"No, not really."

Did you see that ludicrous display last night

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 3 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Oh man in the pit of my stomach I was thinking this was you announcing you were leaving

[–] negativenull@piefed.world 4 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

No, I don't want to leave this place. It's my favorite place on the internet currently.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 4 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

One of my top places too. But because of you. And a couple others.

[–] negativenull@piefed.world 4 points 16 hours ago

You are very kind. That means a lot.

There is a good group of Trekkers here for sure

Goodbye, and thanks for all the Cetaecian Ops?

[–] negativenull@piefed.world 4 points 23 hours ago

That's a good one!

Gormagander? I barely even know 'er!

[–] kieron115@startrek.website 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (1 children)

I had to look this up because I didn't remember a Gormagander from Hitchhikers.... that thing looks like like they Tuvix'd a blobfish and an uncircumsized penis.

[–] zqwzzle@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Weird having to specify the default state of something.

[–] kieron115@startrek.website 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes, yes it is. But that's the world I at least live in. Dunno how it is outside of America.

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 3 points 22 hours ago

Mostly uncircumcised, except for the Middle East.
