It's funny that it was supposed to be "more nuanced" with how the Legion managed to establish a realm where there was safe travel and no banditry, when the Legion themselves are just everything that is fucked about the cutthroat factional banditry writ large. Like they're a cartoon caricature of the already abject evil that was actual Roman society, who are explicitly enslaving a super majority of the population and brutally slaughtering anyone who resists or violates any of their weird purity laws that a depraved incel nerd made up on vibes.
Can't be banditry in your territory if you're the only bandit gang left

Not to mention the least developed one as theres barely any quests or lore outside of Caesars camp and anything not already connected to the NCR.
They did plan for that, but it had to be cut cause the game's budget was 30 bucks and an Olive Garden gift card

It reminds me of the MCU version of the Flagsmashers just basically saying Thanos was right. If these comically evil villian masterplans arent supposed to be obviously incorrect then why did you not write the hero's responding to them??? Its such a self report to not have your heros oppose fascism on anything but the most tepid of moral grounds.
Very funny considering the backstory of the legion is that Caesar was a NCR flunkie who joined up with the social libertarians to "educate" (read colonize) the outskirts of the NCR. Then the narrative has us to believe that one dude just showed "backwards, savage" tribes how to make guns and then was treated like a god in only a couple of decades. Very much "white dude becomes god of the indian natives through his civilized science"
New Vegas very much has racist sci fi brainworms (shocking take, I know). The game would honestly be better if the whole roman empire larp faction didn't exist and it was just a nameless NCR equivalent faction we never get to see. The writers clearly had a better time writing about how liberal democracy is bad and racist than actually writing any compelling foil to it.
They also don't really present a realistic alternative, it feels like capitalist realism. The independent ending is always shown as chaos, there's no organized independence faction. No opportunity for a "vanguard" style party or liberation groups, just the equivalent of Doctors Without Borders. We're left to speculate, not actually build up a real ending of our own, or one that meaningfully contests the status quo (unless you count the Legion as "contesting the status quo," but that's just a fascist slave army).
I love New Vegas, but Caesar's full of shit, and that's the point, right? He has a horrible misunderstanding of Hegel, Rome as well, because he just read a few books and started a slave army. It's the kind of pseudo-philosophy that gets people to follow him in the lore, but most people realize he's full of shit even without reading Hegel, because he's over a slave warband.
If Caesar is so dumb then why is his brain literally getting bigger with each passing day? Checkmate, profligate.
The problem is that you just cant have a charlatan doing obvious fake larp to justify his dictatorship without some loser saying "he is so right" anymore

It's a great moment, the other endings work too, and it was a more believable major oversight than the other villains got cause they hsd to always try to work that in after The Master. Caesars Legion Mask guy just needs a maxed speech skill to defeat by saying "this is dumb, cut it out" and he just puls an entire fucking army back from a decisive battle
