Took me from a young man to an old one. Do not recommend.

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

i was decent looking 25 years ago, now people run away

[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 weeks ago

At the time I didn't think I was good looking, but compared to the guy staring me back in the mirror I was looking pretty good.

[–] fullsquare@awful.systems 25 points 2 weeks ago

i can only watch in disbelief

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 23 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

can we restart and try again?

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 weeks ago

Nope, it's hardcore, no respawns

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago

Steady downhill slide from 2001 onward

[–] bklyn@piefed.social 10 points 2 weeks ago

A bit too Trumpy for my liking

was born in this century, pretty cool thing i must say as a former unborn person

[–] RagnarokOnline@programming.dev 8 points 2 weeks ago

Fucking. Terrible. Here’s to the next one being a redemption arc.

[–] DundasStation@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 weeks ago

I'm simultaneously posting anime tiddies and chatting with a dude named Allah on the Fediverse. First quarter of the 21st century is pretty solid. Can't complain.

[–] mustbe3to20signs@feddit.org 7 points 2 weeks ago

Well, I'm so much better off financially than 25 years ago, mostly because I was a child back than...

I knew the internet and social media would change things.

Didn't expect to have the stupidity of humanity laid quite so bare though.

We live in a world where wisdom is more important than ever. You can post two opposing views and get thousands of people agreeing with both sides and sometimes even data to back up both sides. So which do you pick when more people than you'll meet in real life agree with both ends?

It's frighteningly easy to fold yourself into an echo chamber now. And humans are hardwired to like easy.

Naive young me thought that with facts and education so freely and easily available, surely the internet would benefit everyone hugely!

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

2001 happened and everything went downhill from there

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Pretty mid tbh

[–] terraborra@lemmy.nz 5 points 2 weeks ago

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness.

In the last 25 years I’ve hit rock bottom and also experienced the happiest moments of my life. Can’t sum it up any better than Dickens.

  • I was born, wasn't legally supposed to be born
  • immediately cried a lot because 0 Y.O. me realized what life actually was and want my soul to go back to whereever I was before this
  • fights with my older brother unfair, he was 5 years older than me, literally spawncamping
  • childhood trauma
  • moved to another country
  • much racism/xenophobia
  • no friends
  • cry in the corner (this time I'm not a 0 Y.O. anymore so I get bullied a lot for this)
  • it was the best of times, it was the worst of time, it was the times of trauma bonding with parents because they showed both love and hate simultaneously
  • politics shit happens (2016)
  • politics shit happens v2 electric boogaloo (2024)
  • wait wtf I'm already an adult WTF, no no no, reverse this, it's TOO SOON, go back, rewind this pls
  • who the fuck am I, Identity Crisis v2, Electric Boogaloo

(actually, existing is quite interesting... considering I wasn't even supposed to exist, I have so much stuff I still need to finish watching, so many browser tabs, so many poems, stories I wanna write, can't quit this game yet)

Very varying. It took me from an insecure teen to an insecure teen in an adult body. It also took me from an unemployed and poor dork to an employed dork.

[–] BurgerBaron@piefed.social 4 points 2 weeks ago

Relative to what?

I think it fucking sucked, but I'm also not living in a "bad" country...yet.

[–] RottenHeads@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Worked out pretty good for me. I spent most of it thinking i'd off myself before this, but things are just fine for now.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Everything somehow keeps get better AND much worse at the same time.

[–] Wytch@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 weeks ago

This is not the future we envisioned.

[–] Corporal_Punishment@feddit.uk 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The 90s were much better.

1999/2000 was peak human civilisation. Its been downhill since.

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

90s where gay marriage was illegal in the US and where lynchings of black americans were still socially acceptable 👀

[–] Corporal_Punishment@feddit.uk 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm in the UK and will concede that the gay marriage thing should have been done much earlier.

But the other thing....yeah we don't do that shit

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

But the other thing....yeah we don't do that shit

Not exactly the same, but The Troubles were very much going on during the 90s

[–] angstylittlecatboy@reddthat.com 1 points 2 weeks ago

Bruh I was born in 2001, but I'm black enough to tell you that I didn't think of lynchings as a serious concern until Trump got re-elected. But I've never truly been outside Blue territory, so...

[–] SlicedPotato@feddit.dk 2 points 2 weeks ago

Well, I was born into it, so I don't have anything to compare it with. But so far so good, got a degree and a job, so I'm good.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

Peaked in 04

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 1 points 2 weeks ago

Busy with no signs of slowing down.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Damn, a lot has happened to me this quarter-century. I was 8 years old when it started and now I'm an adult with three degrees, trying to start my career

Interesting, edifying and mostly enjoyable!

[–] theywilleatthestars@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Well, for one thing I stopped wetting the bed.
