Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

titanfall subreddit also fell into phsycosis mode

[–] NONE_dc@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Oh, was it for the new "Hero Shooter" like game the creators of Titanfall announced?

[–] enbiousenvy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

I honestly don't know. I was browsing r/all and their post appear. Then I check out the subreddit has gone wild

1000018000

But I don't immediately find references to any games. Few hours later I also noticed half-life subreddit are also posting the same stuff.

Haven't we known Half Life 3 is never going to happen for 10 years now

[–] NONE_dc@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The new Steam Machine has revived the hype (for whatever reason)

[–] Euphoma@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 days ago

There have been hlx leaks all year which people said is going to be half life 3

[–] Jakeroxs@sh.itjust.works 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'd guess because they released Alex with the index 🤷

[–] QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

also there were some leaks from a leaker who leaked a different AAA game. However for me, the biggest hint is that in their release of the steam machine, they had 1) the valve index, 2) the steam machine, 3) steamdeck all next to each other in the website

Valve purposefully never does things in 3 so it's very suspicious. Nothing official yet though.

won't stop me from getting my hopes up

Leave my blue boy alone, we're waiting for Legends 3 longer than people have been waiting for HL3

They announced a new Megaman game at the Game Awards. Apparently some expected Half Life 3 for the Steam Frame.

[–] magic_lobster_party@fedia.io 78 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Valve don’t need to pay any game award show to announce HL3. Just post a tweet only consisting of a ”3” and everybody will lose their mind.

[–] traches@sh.itjust.works 25 points 2 days ago (2 children)

But wait is it half life, portal, dota, or team fortress?

The only way. To keep the tradition of not counting to 3

[–] medgremlin@midwest.social 7 points 2 days ago

No, it'd be the Orange Cube.

[–] Prunebutt@slrpnk.net -2 points 2 days ago

I think valve fanbois aren't really known for their logic skills.

Wait, a new Megaman game? Fuck yes!

[–] Bubs@lemmy.zip 26 points 2 days ago

I think it's about all the morons losing their minds about no HL3 announcement, even though we know Valve won't announce it like that. The HLA trailer dropped on a random day outside of any event.
