I don't know in English, but in Spanish the word for five, Cinco, has five letters.

Nah, maybe I'll present myself as a test subject so that it's ME who gets paid for fucking my brain.

Although, it may be a "premium" feature, so it's (still) a bad idea.

The PANZER code in GTA Vice City to invoque a tank. I typed that shit like crazy when I was a child playing in the good ol' cyber cafés

So now he's just a stupid and slightly bipolar Nazi? Is that an "improvement" in his book?

[–] NONE_dc@lemmy.world 49 points 1 day ago (8 children)

"Nooo! He's just bipolar!" Some may say, but he's actually really stupid.

Don't worry, you're not my type anyway ~

Fella, you're taking a obviously hyperbolic (exaggerated) comic to face value... Of course no adult eat like that, and that's kinda the punchline of the comic.

Relax, no one is obliged to agree with anyone. You thought it was a kid, I disagree. I didn't think it was a kid, you disagree. We each decide whether to give upvote or downvote to the post and go on with our lives.

And my question was legit, with no malicious intent. It really didn't cross my mind that it was a kid, but anyway....

(It's weird to call it "falling in love", because it's more like a childish and annoying infatuation, but anyway...)

I'm already terrible at socializing, but it's especially difficult for me to create genuine friendships with women because I can't help thinking of them as "possible future partners" (or some bullshit like that) and feel "jealous" when I see them talking to other men. It's stupid, a really stupid and annoying felling.

I know there is something in me that I need to change, but I don't know what, and I need some assistance.

I would like to feel more comfortable with my singleness and reserve my feelings for someone who can really reciprocate, while forging more non-romantic relationships with other people.

I mean... I kinda get it, but nowadays it's starting to get absurd.

(EDIT: This was supposed to be a "blow air out my nose and get on with my life" meme...)

I'm in the process of getting rid of as much Google-related stuff as I can. Yesterday I already started with moving everything I had stored in Drive (backups and other stuff) to my Nextcloud and the like. Now I want to change my main email, the one I'm going to use for, my accounts here in the fediverse and so on. So I'm looking for alternatives.

At the moment, apart from Gmail, I also have an Outlook (from when it was hotmail), a Proton account (though in view of their CEO's recent statements I may not keep it) and a new one on Disroot.

Which of the aforementioned services works best for a normie not well versed in cybersecurity like me?

Do you know of any alternatives I'm not aware of (I've heard of Tuta, but nothing else)?

"Casa Tomada" (House Taken Over) is a story written by the great Julio Cortázar. It tells the story of a couple of siblings who live alone in a large house that strangely begins to be "taken" by something immaterial and Ominous. It is never known what exactly it is that "takes" the house, it is only known that little by little the brothers "can not" enter certain rooms, not because they are closed or blocked, they simply "can not". I am not going to tell the ending so that those who have not read it can look it up and read it on their own.

Cortázar wrote the story in the context of a dictatorship in his home country, Argentina. It is impossible not to see a parallel between the story and Cortázar's situation then, living abroad, unable to return home because it has been "taken".

Since all this "digital migration" started in several networks, I have not been able to stop thinking about "La Casa Tomada", in how it seems that little by little the digital spaces we inhabited have been "taken" and now we "can not" to be in them anymore. There are several factors that are causing this: the shittification, the rise of reactionary ideas, the bots and AI, the increasingly intrusive advertising, all an abominable and amorphous amalgam that seems to engulf everything around us.

But let's not kid ourselves, this didn't start with Musk. The Internet has been taken over since Facebook and other social networks came out. It's been slow and systematic, it's just that now it's become unbearable.

The Fediverse has become to a greater or lesser extent a refuge for those fleeing the maelstrom. It is far from perfect, paradises do not exist, but that does not imply that it is not worth fighting for.

After all, the Internet can't really be dead as long as we are here. It has been "taken", and sooner or later it will have to be taken back.

EDIT: More accurate English title of the story. PDF of the story in English. Wikipedia Page of Cortázar.

Let's say there is a tulip lovers club, where they talk about tulips, their variations and how to grow them. Let's say someone new joins the club, this new person starts saying that tulips are rubbish and that roses are better or something like that. This person becomes so insistent with these statements that they end up being kicked out of the club. Before leaving, the person calls the club an "Echo Chamber" about tulips.

Would this person be right?

And what are we pretending to be?

"Humans".

And what are Humans?

"Not animals, that's for sure!"

Ok, here's the thing: Earlier this week I had the idea of setting up a Lemmy community focused on Lowpoly modeling done with PicoCad, Blockbench and Blender. I went with my Mastodon instance looking for feedback on community regulations. Then the admin of my instance contacted me to tell me if he wanted me to set up a whole Lemmy instance.

He told me it was something he had been thinking about for a while. He already has several projects in the fediverse: two Mastodon instances (TKZ.one and Mas.lat), one on Pixelfed (Pixelfed.es), one on Peertube (TKZ.video), etc. It's just that, as I wasn't familiar with Lemmy, I didn't know where to start, and as I'm one of the only ones in the instance that is active on Lemmy....

Lemmy is the second page, after Mastodon, where I've been messing around the most and I'm close to a year around here (it's not much, but it's something), so I'm pretty familiar.

The instance is already set up (Lem.to). At the moment it has nothing, since we just finished making it today. It will be focused on the Spanish-speaking public, although I don't rule out the possibility of bilingual communities (Spanish and English), although that remains to be seen.

So, I am asking for help to know how to get off to a good start in this new responsibility. I would like to do the best job possible and attract more users to Lemmy if possible. Any advice is welcome.
