"Mom, I want [Dino Crisis]!"

*The [Dino Crisis] at home*

Effort.

You know there are people with ADHD who can watch movies and TV shows, right? Well, it’s the same for us. In my case, it might be a little harder for me than for the average person, especially during the “boring” parts of a movie. But if the story is interesting enough, I can watch the whole thing without any trouble.

What is "Ranked Choice voting"?

[–] NONE_dc@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Hey, Latin American here! A few comments to expand:

  • In the vast majority of Latin American countries, voting is direct. in other words, a vote for a dude is a vote for that dude, period. No electoral colleges or any of that nonsense they do in the United States (Your system is shit, I'll die on this hill).
  • Most elections have a turnout that, in the very best of cases, reaches 50% of the eligible population (those over 18, registered in the system, etc.)
    • Therefore, this 50/50 in "real numbers" would be more like 25/25 or so.
    • The remaining population would consist of people who are disillusioned with the system or apathetic toward it (mostly young people).

The thing is, no matter how much of an anarchist I want to be, I can’t fully support not voting. Because it’s precisely by not voting that the Diego Hitlerios come to power and screw us all over.

Are those Momo and Aira from Dandadan?

As a Venezuelan currently living in Venezuela, I have always believed that the problem is not so much communism / socialism, but rather the incompetence and corruption of our leaders.

In fact, I could argue that if it weren’t for my country’s socialist policies, I and many people would have died of disease (COVID) or starvation.

AI was involved in the development of the game...

(How? Why? To what extent? Who knows! Vague ass statement...)

They really just hate their users, huh.

"OK, I'll comply... But just to you. Fuck everyone else, scumbags..."

This place used to have a lot of interesting shops. It's all gone now.

I took this photo in the basement of an "undead" mall in my city in Venezuela. It's both eerie and kinda sad.

You see, roughly speaking (and with a few spoilers from a couple of games from more than 10 years ago (the third one doesn’t exist)), in the Dead Space DUOLOGY there are these effigies that drive people mad, but not in a stereotypical makes-them-gouge-out-their-eyes or tear-off-their-skin way (though that happens too, sometimes), but in a more subtle way.

The effigy compels those close to it to create more effigies to increase its power, and makes them believe that it is the most logical and natural thing to do, that there is no alternative. Everyone involved thinks they have control over the effigy, that they can use it for their own purposes, but they are only deceiving themselves, causing more death and feeding the effigy.

I see certain parallels in how our techno-feudal lords are convinced that AI will be the infinite money hack they crave so much, while they burn billions of dollars, ruin their reputations, enshittifies the internet, and generally fuck us all over.

Maybe what we call "AI" is a Lovecraftian entity pulling the strings through this technology. Woooo~ 👻

(Obviously, I don’t take this idea seriously; it’s more of a creative exercise or, well, a shower thought.)

It's evolving! it's achieving self awareness!

My Take

In my case, the albums that have become my favorites are the ones I feel I absolutely have to listen to from start to finish. Of course, there are standout tracks, and some, though good, might pale in comparison to others. But it’s the experience of listening to the entire album that captivates me.

Examples:

  • "Flowerboy" by Tyler, The Creator.
  • "Affinity" by Haken
  • "Brat" by Charli XCX
  • The debut album by Gentle Giant

What are your favorite albums and why?

ContextI'm a writer, but I'd like to be a comic book artist. I’ve been trying to learn how to draw on and off for years. At first, I felt like I didn’t have the talent for it, but looking back at what I’ve done in previous years, I think my problem is more about motivation. I just don’t find the same fulfillment in drawing as I do in writing. I’d like to find a way to break through this imaginary barrier...
