I want WW2 games to be anti-axis. I don't want them to portray the conflict with nuance or show the fucking axis powers in a positive light. They were rabid dogs and needed to be put down like one.

TBH, American WWII games usually aren't particularly anti-German. The traditional strategy game approach is to treat it more like a sports match. The alternative would require the German player to engage with the Holocaust in some capacity, which most developers steer well clear of.

WWII yank games should be anti-german

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 31 points 3 days ago (1 children)

nothing wrong with that. only thing wrong is that they all focus on the wrong warfront.

[–] Mindfury@hexbear.net 38 points 3 days ago (2 children)

activision would be forcibly closed if they made COD 2 today with Stalingrad - even though the mission is straight up 'enemy at the gates' human wave slop - because how dare they portray the asiatic ruzzian orcs as heroic against our smol bean true euro wehrmacht who didn't even want to be there cri shy

[–] Krem@hexbear.net 23 points 3 days ago (2 children)

wasn't there some rts game like 10 15 years ago - world of heroes? heroes of war? blood of heroes? - where the first game had the classic western allies vs wehrmacht in normandy, which is all fine, and then the sequel did the eastern front. now of course they depicted the germans as "misguided but still classy and cool" and the soviets as "technically on the right side but actually evil" including enemy at the gates BS like evil commissars forcing poor soldiers to fight or die (because the average soviet citizen would rather be invaded and genocided than fighting against the noble europeans)

I think it was Company of Heroes 2. The whole burger brained plot was told through an interrogation in a gulag and the main narrator wanted to defect if I'm remembering right.

[–] ItsPequod@hexbear.net 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Fucking Company of Heroes 2, and it chaps my ass to this day because mechanically it's a great RTS but holy shit they couldn't possibly conceive of portraying the Soviets as just clear-cut heroes for fighting the Nazis, as implied by the title. Ofc the devs are Canadians.

[–] Krem@hexbear.net 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ofc the devs are Canadians.

oh damn, is there like a subplot about how the Soviets (all ethnically russians) were owned by some epic ukrainians (who just happened to be allied to the germans don't worry about it they were just fighting for their free nation or something)?

[–] ItsPequod@hexbear.net 5 points 3 days ago

Nah, but your Soviet commanding officer does betray and murder some Polish partisans, in the cut-scene after the mission where you help them out.

I remember the cod WAW Soviet campaign being pretty baller

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 10 points 3 days ago

The tank mission was terrible, they should have stuck with FPS

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 33 points 3 days ago

Americans dont get that their own country is hated by the entire rest of the world for a good reason and therefore cant understand why most of a continent would have beef with Japan

[–] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 28 points 3 days ago

American WWII games aren't described as anti-German

so-far

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 38 points 3 days ago (5 children)

That's a great point, I've yet to see the chuds harangue that WWII shooters are racist against German people.

[–] Frivolous_Beatnik@hexbear.net 35 points 3 days ago

They got big mad about Wolfenstein some years back, it happens

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 35 points 3 days ago

I have, but it's always been someone with a nazi symbol as a profile picture.

[–] mayakovsky@hexbear.net 28 points 3 days ago

Its because you get to play as Americans (good) where this game you play as the Chinese (bad)

[–] puppygirlpets@hexbear.net 14 points 3 days ago

give it a few more years

[–] BeanisBrain@hexbear.net 6 points 3 days ago

They complained that the new Silent Night, Deadly Night is "anti-white" because it features the anti-hero killing Nazis lol

It is peak propaganda that people can choose Japan in China-Japan problems. I remember maybe 15 years ago on 9gag about China-Japan problems, people who said China was justified said all the stuff known. Japan side said stuff about Japan apologised and tried to make up for all of it which is hilariously falso

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 28 points 3 days ago

My Japanese co-worker fucking hates these people and the Japanese government cause she is cool and based.

[–] Lussy@hexbear.net 17 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Oh look I am cute Japanesu, how could I ever not do honorable thing,

This doesn’t even seem like something I’d do. Murder, removed of Nanjing… like whaaaaat limmy-what This is awful, I could never do this. I can’t even quit my job uwu

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 11 points 3 days ago

You'd be lucky to even get that far, way too many people are more like "Yeah, those removed deserved it and also they are lying about it to make us look bad."

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 10 points 3 days ago
[–] Llituro@hexbear.net 10 points 3 days ago

Also consider that a lot of the most impactful WWII games in the u.s. like cod waw have also depicted fighting the Japanese military. It's not like China's breaking ground here by portraying that. The westerners are just mad that this will be much more historically justified.

[–] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 20 points 3 days ago (1 children)

american WW2 games are anti-japanese like by definition lmao

[–] Enjoyer_of_Games@hexbear.net 18 points 3 days ago

American games are inherently anti-Japanese because they are competing with Sony and Nintendo very-smart

[–] RedSturgeon@hexbear.net 21 points 3 days ago

How long until these propaganda headlines read "Pro-communist, anti-German WW2 Game Has players kill small bean white Germans"

[–] JustSo@hexbear.net 16 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Sooo what's this cool game called?

[–] Comrade_Cat@lemmygrad.ml 24 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Fourteen Years of Flames. Looks quite good.

[–] JustSo@hexbear.net 13 points 3 days ago
[–] Bob_Odenkirk@hexbear.net 13 points 3 days ago

Pretty normal to describe a game about the Anti-Japanese War as anti-Japanese imo

[–] LeninWalksTheEarth@hexbear.net 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 18 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I don't really even care about seeing all the hog replies or interacting with the OOP but to not even link the game or its title (14 Years of Flames) is a 12th type of liberalism.

truly a post worthy of a bot

[–] tacosanonymous@mander.xyz 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What's the name of the game?

[–] Lemmygradwontallowme@hexbear.net 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] tacosanonymous@mander.xyz 9 points 3 days ago
