Dammit I'm gonna want to read Jonathan strange and Mr norrell again just for the footnotes
If you live in New England I can offer an anecdote that translates this thought.
You know how stone walls are fucking everywhere? They are things. The things they are... Are a lot more of a thing than the thing they immitate.
The OG stone walls in new England were settlers literally moving glacial erratics to their property line so they could plough/farm. People thought it was an aesthetic way to demarcate property lines, so they started buying rocks to make these walls.
And now revisit the quote.
And now you can have a faux stone wall inside your home
That's not all stucco is it?

Dinosaur nuggets?

It's like the things aren't even trying to look like things
This is true but have you really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?
My gut says maybe
"You want them to do you so much you can do anything"?
I'm not gonna tell a CHILD the answer to that question! 😬
I don't...?
a few commas would have made that so much easier to read
Which is why he didn't add them

Is this about AI?
No. That was a character explaining why crowns in the theater are so much more impressive than the actual crown worn by the king.
Terry Pratchett died ten years ago
And I still haven't found anyone half as good
I didn’t really think he said this about AI. Just seemed relevant.
