Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

MODERATORS

Here we are, Black Friday, officially Christmastime now. America is in a sour mood. Grocery prices are up, and so are energy prices. Donald Trump lies incessantly about both. The American people are onto him. They’re pessimistic about the future.

The distrust goes way beyond the economy. Over these last few weeks, ever since the government shutdown, it’s finally begun to sink in on people that Trump and his entire administration are a bunch of raging ideologues or incompetents or both, peddling a fantasy version of their strength that people no longer buy. There’s no longer any doubt about it: The MAGA crack-up has begun.

Look at a few things that have happened in just the last week: https://newrepublic.com/article/203744/there-no-doubt-it-great-maga-crack-up-begun-trump

X for doubt.

I've lost count of how many times I've read headlines like this.

I'll believe it when my MAGA relatives turn their backs on Fox News and Trump. Until then, this is weapons grade hopium.

Maybe you should read more than the headlines. There's some pretty good evidentiary detail in this one.

I read it and I'm still not convinced. I've lived with these MAGA types for decades. I'd been forced to be around Fox News and right wing pundit rhetoric for decades. The media they consume are not reporting any of Trump's or his wider administrations shortfalls. Even on the very, very rare occasions that they do, the MAGAs smugly declare that Fox News is owned by Chinese communists and stop watching for like a week (one of my relatives actually said/did this immediately after Jan 6).

And from what I've gathered from the breathless Facebook posts of these people within the last week, everything involving Epstein and Trump is a hoax. New York City is reaching Portland-levels of imaginary death and destruction because of the new mayor. And the dismissal of the case against James Comey and Letitia James was unconstitutional, somehow.

I'm not trying to be pessimistic or cynical. I'm just going off what has happened in the past and what I'm seeing them saying and doing right now. Some of these people are too far gone to accept that they might have made many, many wrong decisions, and they will continue to blame Democrats for their self-inflicted suffering.

Fully will second this. I am not convinced. Grew up in the Midwest.. “Full Trump Country” I can tell you they are getting vastly different news. Trump is turning around Biden’s bad economy.

If they refuse to vote for anyone but a Republican or to stop demonizing Democrats and Independents, then momentarily admitting water is wet is completely useless.

The cult has to die first and we all know what has to happen for cults to die out.

[–] NegentropicBoy@lemmy.world 14 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Their leaders need to be laughed at.

[–] dumbass@piefed.social 11 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

The leader needs to die.

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 5 points 4 months ago

This is what the Majority Report is for

[–] Inucune@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

Should I invest in flavor-aid, or will Trump shill his own product?

[–] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 19 points 4 months ago

We've been seeing headlines like this daily since before his first election

[–] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 17 points 4 months ago

The thing is, everything has gone exactly right and to plan for Trump and his cronies. All he meant to accomplish was making himself billions, making his family and friends billions, and keeping himself out of jail. Ten months into his term, he has accomplished that. He may even get the remaining 3+ years to continue the grift. Anyone who seriously expected different, is insane.

It's not true if you live in a deep red state. They treat politics like football teams and REFUSE to ever change parties because their whole family tree has voted red, so they won't change it.

Also most pastors here are hard MAGA and think gay people are going to murder them at every chance, so they spread constant propaganda to the members, so they all vote red as well.

It's a well thought out propaganda train to take advantage of the fact 90% of these people have a 5th grade education and at least 3-4 children.

[–] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

I've seen a few magats around here start to bitch about prices but they don't tie those price increases to trump. They do not have the capacity to look past whats right in front of them. Its why they vote for the GOP to begin with. So they will vote for trump. Its all the ones who vote red to fit in that the GOP need to be worried about.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago

Heard that before.

[–] I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world 10 points 4 months ago (1 children)

"I'm confident the crack-up is definitely happening because everyone I talk to is upset and against trump.

What's that?

Yes, I spend all my time on leftist websites and only surround myself with people who think like me, why do you ask?"

[–] Jakeroxs@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I've seen a stark drop in Trump flags and random merch on people's cars.

[–] Catma@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I would chalk that up to people just not wanting to identify themselves as supporters. They would rather hide their support so when they pull up to stores/friends or families homes, they cannot easily be shown to be awful people.

[–] INHALE_VEGETABLES@aussie.zone 2 points 4 months ago

They are ashamed tat they lick boot.

The only thing that can theoretically shake MAGA is a failing economy, and even that is easily displaced onto scapegoats. This article is delusional.
