Can't have any survivors, they know they could be unequivocally confirmed to not be related to the drug trafficking.

There is no other possible motive here. If these were actual criminals they would parade them about.

[–] 800XL@lemmy.world 12 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

God. This fuckin guy. Another 12 year old in an adult's body. His parents should be ashamed for raising such a piece of human trash.

[–] PolarKraken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 22 hours ago

You're in luck! There is a letter from his mother to him that expresses, among many things lol, extreme shame for him and how he is.

Just search "full text email from hegseth's mother" and choose your flavor

Isn’t this exactly the type of situation that was being used recently as an example of when an order is so blatantly illegal that the soldier is required not to follow it?

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 17 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

And all the good little soldiers followed the order anyway.

But I always hear from ex-military how it is drilled into their heads not to do this stuff etc and that they would never yadda yadda. Push comes to shove and they willingly commit war crimes time and time again.

[–] 100_kg_90_de_belin@feddit.it 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

It seems that all those good soldiers who bravely defy orders in the name of American values only exist in propaganda content

[–] AutistoMephisto@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Because it comes down to the Presidential pardon powers. They can defy a blatantly illegal order, be dishonorably discharged, lose their pensions, healthcare benefits, pay, etc. or, they can follow a blatantly illegal order, and receive a pardon for it later.

I ask you, which one would you pick?

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago

There is zero evidence there was any push or shove.

[–] ferrule@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 day ago

and pointing out that it's an illegal order is aparently unamerican

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 18 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Still don't see why it's necessary to blow up a drug boat in the first place let alone kill everyone on board.

[–] drmoose@lemmy.world 10 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

it's a bad idea but I think they think it's a strong deterrent. "You try to traffic drugs here - you will die" sort of mentality

This obviously is a poor strategy for a dozen of other reasons but they are simple, stupid people so to them simple stupid solutions are very attractive especially if it scratches their need for cruelty and racial superiority.

[–] OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Because they’re not drug boats. They’re alleged drug boats. But “innocent until proven guilty” doesn’t fit the project 2025 agenda.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Cruelty. That's the answer.

[–] IhaveCrabs111@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

They think that if someone commits a crime they have moral immunity and are free to do whatever they want to prevent it. It’s very telling that they take that false assumption and commit the worst possible crimes they can come up with in response.

This man is a “Christian” by the way.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 76 points 1 day ago (5 children)

When two survivors emerged from the wreckage, a Special Operations commander overseeing the attack ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions to “kill everybody,” according to The Washington Post, citing officials with direct knowledge of the operation.

The two men were then “blown apart in the water,” according to the report.

[–] NJSpradlin@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago

We’re watching in real time the conversion of ‘normal people’ into complicit members of the regime. We were complacent, we enabled the government to put the people in a situation where we don’t have a choice anymore.

Sure, you can ‘refuse’, but then you have to deal with the consequences of that refusal; months in jail, no paycheck, no benefits, fired, demoted, family starving or under investigation, denationalized and/or deported. Look at the normal Americans who have spent months in jail and lost their jobs, and have stained criminal records, or lost their careers, for absolutely no reason other than they said or did something the regime didn’t like. Not illegal, but they stood up and they’re losing everything.

No wonder young twenties somethings, normal people, are taking up admin jobs working for ICE and the DHS’s immigration agenda. No wonder the Proud Boy type, that has no other marketable skills, are taking up these raids and bounty hunting jobs.

We don’t have to wonder why normal people became part of the Nazi’s regime, anymore. You crush the people long enough, that even if you don’t really agree with their agenda, you still need to put food on the table and raise your children. ‘Better them than me, they’re the ones that broke the law.’

[–] TipRing@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It makes me nauseous that my government is responsible for this senseless horror. The military can make no claim to honor when they bomb unarmed men clinging desperately to the burning wreck of the boat that was already illegally bombed.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 5 points 1 day ago

The military can make no claim to honor

Never could.

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 32 points 1 day ago

This guy needs to be blown apart, or maybe slowly with tiny cuts

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We need make sure those that then carried out that order are jailed as well.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I expect they'll be preemptively pardoned.

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 14 points 1 day ago

What's another war crime for these people? Tuesday?

[–] thagoat@lemmy.dbzer0.com 50 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Such a manly man. Nothing screams "I'm a super serious, super macho, super secure guy!" like summoning all the top generals for a dick waving ceremony, and bombing fishermen from airplanes.

[–] Insekticus@aussie.zone 23 points 1 day ago

Bombing 3rd world fisherman from the highest tech airplanes in existence*

He has all the energy of every omnivore that eats meat performatively once they learn they are in the presence of a vegetarian.

[–] KairuByte@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago

I’m sensing some unresolved issues irrelevant to the current situation at play in your comment…

[–] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Can't wait for Trump to go away so we can jail this fucker for murder.

Yeah he didn't get illegal orders, he gave illegal orders and unless Trump is going to say "everyone in my administration is pardoned of all acts performed during their time in my administration" he is clearly guilty of ordering people to be murdered without any due process.

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh you sweet summer child.

Even when Trump dies, there is somebody much worse waiting in the wings. 2028 is not going to be a salvation.

[–] 4am@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

It very much is a threat to all of us.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

They well all have presidential Parsons so nothing well happen.

[–] marv99@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago

.. fuckers ..

[–] 0_o7@lemmy.dbzer0.com -1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Like Obama's drone strikes?

Fucking please.

You guys have been worshipping senseless killing for decades. And NOW you want to jail them for murder? A little too late, ain't it?

[–] syreus@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago

What if the same people disgusted with these killings were also disgusted with the drone strikes done under Obama? Crazy to consider. Better to make a strawman with a glaring hypocrisy.

So I guess whenever he steps foot on European soil he will be immediately captured and go to trial, right?

RIGHT‽

Dead men can't defend themselves or provide evidence that he's wrong.

[–] rafoix@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 day ago

He should be extradited to every country he attacked.

[–] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

Awful however now even worse with Trump pardoning a real, not imagined, drug lord. Death without trial (or evidence) for potential and most likely poor drug runners but freedom for a convicted drug lord because he could pay Trump off.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 10 points 1 day ago

Kill everybody; starting with Pete Hegseth.

[–] ctrl_alt_esc@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 day ago

Is there already a case against him and the Trump administration at the ICC? If not, does anyone know how to start one?

[–] notsure@fedia.io 1 points 1 day ago

...the winners write history, especially with no survivors...or witnesses...

[–] EtAl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 2 points 1 day ago

Disgusting.
