Maybe next year. Currently trying to get a classic with (some weird engine) via it's native implementation to run.

Beat Bioshock Infinite a couple weeks ago... breaddy güd :)

[–] skulblaka@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago

I found that I liked the earlier Bioshocks more than Infinite, personally. It was good though. Elizabeth is the GOAT gold standard for persistent non-player companions, she never once felt like the escort quest that she technically is.

If you're a fan of the series, check out System Shock too. It's cool to see where the roots come from and they're great games on their own. Shock 1 is a little (okay, a lot) crusty by modern standards but the remake kicks ass. Shock 2 I think still stands on its own merits once you get used to it and has a pretty robust modding scene to make your own remake if you're so inclined.

It's amazing how there's always a suitable XKCD.

Praise Randall.

Make your hipster friends into patient gamers, two problems solved.

[–] bytesonbike@discuss.online 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I finally listened to Gangnam style.

Fuck that shit slaps.

I was singing it in my head for like two months, unable to share with others how amazing it is.

[–] absGeekNZ@lemmy.nz 7 points 3 days ago

It has a great beat. The music video is both awesome and terrible.

Still waiting on game of thrones and breaking bad.

[–] Sadbutdru@sopuli.xyz 20 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I was really into reading the books of game of thrones just around the time they started produce the TV series.

My wife had been burned before, she said she wouldn't start reading them until the guy finished writing the whole series... We're still waiting George!

[–] DaTingGoBrrr@lemmy.ml 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The last seasons of Game of Thrones were total garbage compared to what they delivered when they had the books to lean on.

Breaking Bad is great all the way. I would also like to recommend Vikings. The spin-off is not as good as the first one.

[–] PlutoniumAcid@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Vikings very quickly turns into a gore-fest.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Thank you for helping me decide whether or not to watch that one.

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

There's only 4 seasons of Game of Thrones, sadly.

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Because it only gets good after the fifth?

Both of those would have been my example. I watched them years later, maybe two years ago. I liked them both.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 25 points 3 days ago

If it's any good at all, it never goes out of style.

[–] bleistift2@sopuli.xyz 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Got to reddit about a year before it started sucking ass… :'(

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

what do you consider the turning point?

[–] bytesonbike@discuss.online 5 points 3 days ago

2016 - when I went to a Redditor event at a tech company, and the next day, got a email begging people to chip in money to pay for a bunch of shit that was broken/stolen.

The redditor events I've been to have always been at public places because redditors ya know? But to host it at a tech company and not expect the worse out of people?

[–] stevedice@sh.itjust.works 17 points 3 days ago

I just watched season 1 of Stranger Things. Pretty good. Don't think I'll watch any more.

[–] lonlazarus@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 3 days ago

Both these for Severance. Saw S01 before anybody knew about it, will wait 3 more years for S02.

[–] bufalo1973@piefed.social 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Some months ago I played again Castlevania SOTN and Super Metroid. As fun as the first time.

[–] bytesonbike@discuss.online 2 points 3 days ago

Timeless classics.

[–] LiveLM@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 days ago

Yo Breaking Bad slaps

[–] Teppichbrand@feddit.org 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I never paid more than 80€ for any phone. Life is great (and super affordable) a decade behind the hype.

[–] bytesonbike@discuss.online 1 points 3 days ago

I buy used phones for $200 which last three years, and I pay $10 USD a month for service.

My brother gets the newest phone every year, and pays $80/month?

Its bananas.

I have a (snobbish?) variant of this: If things are super popular I'm not really interested in it (Harry Potter, GoT, etc.).

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I'm this way too. I have very limited free time, but I also can't stand hype. Nothing ever really lives up to it, so I prefer to check things out after the buzz has died down

[–] jlow@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 2 hours ago

That's not what I meant, though. If it's popular I'll never care, I'm not gonna wait til people have moved on amd then check out, I'm just not interested in many popular things.

[–] PP_BOY_@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Genuinely my stance on most popular media. Turns out that Chappell Roan singer is alright

[–] Apeman42@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I found out I liked Adele like last week. Then I found out she was cockney. Then I found out she semi-retired? It was a roller coaster.

[–] csolisr@hub.azkware.net 4 points 3 days ago

And then there's me, refusing to consume media partly because of the unfortunate reasons and consequences of it being popular (namely, the shady business conglomerates pushing pop culture as a reason, and the harmful people they end up turning popular as a consequence)

Non-mainstream team where you at.

[–] aarRJaay@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Sounds like my mother in-laws fridge

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

We don't have it at home and we don't need it.

[–] sangriaferret@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago

I watch a lot of movies but I rarely watch contemporary ones. There is over a century of films that have stood the test of time. Why risk watching one that won't?

[–] halvar@lemy.lol 2 points 3 days ago

ironically doing something after it goes out of style instead of before it becomes cool has exactly the same merits.
