“as a man”

speaking as a dude, you’re embarrassing us homie. cut it out or go eat a dick or something

[–] dandelion@lemmy.blahaj.zone 32 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I mean, his strategy didn't work - but what is disturbing is that there are women who have low self esteem or were raised to be submissive and "traditional", and his behavior acts as a filter, so that only those women will date him ...

[–] lIlIlIlIlIlIl@lemmy.world 23 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Therapy is a great idea for every brain owner

[–] dandelion@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Christian fundamentalist women are the most likely to be skeptical of therapy and to prefer pastoral guidance over therapy, unfortunately - also, I have my own doubts that therapy alone would be sufficient, but it's still better than nothing

[–] zero_spelled_with_an_ecks@programming.dev 15 points 4 days ago (2 children)

My partner had parents that used therapy as a boogie man to get her to behave or it was for people that had something wrong with them (and you don't have something wrong with you, right?). That made it real hard to bring it up as something that might be of use. I don't doubt many people have similar experiences that make them adverse to seeking therapy, which is too bad because those are going to be people that could benefit greatly from it.

Super abusive, wow. Hope they’re ok, and if not hope you can be ok

To be fair, maybe his strategy did work.

It expedited the whole process real fast.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 14 points 4 days ago (2 children)

That's why I would always talk about religion and politics on the first date. It's gonna come up, it's most likely gonna introduce a deal breaker (Americans suck), so let's check early.

"Who does that on the first date? You're weird, Explodicle!" Yeah I know, weird dates only please.

[–] SkyeStarfall@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The older I get the more absurd it sounds to me whenever anyone tells me "keep social/romantic life and politics separate!"

No. Politics relate to our fundamental values. In addition they relate to our control of the environment. There's almost nothing better to talk about than politics

You dont build a relationship on the kind of pizza toppings you like

[–] cassandrafatigue@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 4 days ago (1 children)

you don't build a relationship on the kind of pizza toppings you like

So in my early 20s I had this gf who I would go shoplifting with, and make food for unhoused people with.

Pizza toppings were a genuinely large part of that relationship.

Right? They're going to experience the full force of your personality sooner or later. Why not discover any incompatibilities early?

If he demands to be the breadwinner because he's a man, then what role is actually left for his partner other than bread eater?

One can't be like "I will do the work and provide for you, but you cannot be content being provided for", because that's just absolutely braindead.

[–] Dragonstaff@leminal.space 8 points 4 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

"Traditional" gender roles say the man is the "breadwinner" and the woman cares for the house.

I'd bet he was picking an argument and expected her to say that she planned to work. Maybe there was some hope that someone desiring to be a trad wife wouldn't find the first message off putting, but my money says his main goal was arguing and he blocked her because she's cleverer than he.

The fact that she came up with a clever response rather than just saying "Yeah...we're done here." Is more than this Ralph Kramden wannabe deserves, to be honest.

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago

I actually find the answer incredibly funny and witty. I could see myself saying what he said but in an entirely sarcastic and mocking tone, basically making fun of that whole super macho male stereotype. Had a woman responded to me that way, I would have been smitten.

[–] krooklochurm@lemmy.ca 7 points 4 days ago

Right?

The entire idea of predefined "roles" in a relationship is asinine.

Unless they're cool roles. I'll be the wizard, you can be the barbarian. Or whatever idc.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 days ago

tbh given the "alright." to start the dude's last message, I want the previous conversation context before judging lol

I'm honestly not too sure where else to post this kind of content. 'Witches vs Patriarchy' does seem like it should be more witchy content than this. But there's no plethora of 'blatant misogyny' and 'men and females' type communities here like Reddit. And !feminism@beehaw.org seems like it's more for articles and things of actual substance than memes or screenshots.

[–] TheEntity@lemmy.world 36 points 5 days ago

The very fact you thought so much about where to post it makes it okay in my book. Let's strive to be thoughtful over blind unreachable perfection.

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 18 points 5 days ago

Fitting community or not, her answer is great and I thank you for posting it 💖

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 4 days ago (4 children)

Womenstuff or femcelmemes might have been good alternatives.

Witches like bread though, so here should be fine :-)

My wife and I have traded being the bread winner back and forth over the years. We always called the one not making any money at the time the "bread loser"

[–] AnarchistArtificer@slrpnk.net 9 points 4 days ago

This has given me a hilarious mental image. For whatever reason, you and your wife are discussing who should be the one to take on more hours at work. The choice shall be defined by something akin to gladiatorial combat. On a pedestal above you is a fancy loaf of bread. When the battle finishes, the winner cheers and holds the bread over their head like a wrestling championship belt

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 15 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Why is he entitled to "winning" it? I have to work for it and so should he.

This isnt really a community meant for me, but Im glad to see it nonetheless! Got a massive chuckle

[–] Amuletta@lemmy.ca 19 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I doughn't know if I want a man who isn't well-bread. A rye sense of humour helps.

[–] Vanth@reddthat.com 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I just want one who will bring me flour-s to our date.

That answer would absolutely make me interested. Though the initial question is an issue.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 17 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I'd like to know how the conversation got there, because that's a real weird message

[–] protist@mander.xyz 17 points 4 days ago

That was his pickup line

[–] ByteJunk@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I'm so confused. If my guy over there likes to pose all cocky and stupid, just what kind of answers is he expecting to get? Because hers is just perfect... I reckon most people would just instantly block the guy.

So how does one win the bread? Is this some kind of championship where bread is the price?

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

Through a cake walk

Sometimes in this community, I'll check the comment history of someone people who have heavy downvotes, sort by controversial and go on an adventure.

As someone who doesn't have much care about words, it's always interesting to see into the mind and history of people who are easily angered by words.
