The biggest takeaway from this is ..... not that the president is doing this

The biggest takeaway is that ... THE REST OF THE COUNTRY NORMALIZES THIS BEHAVIOUR!

[–] Aneb@lemmy.world 54 points 2 months ago

Like seriously. My parents who brought me to volunteer in soup kitchens and federally funded christian outreach programs, literally voted against feeding the poor and for deporting American citizens who are trying to get jobs and bring their children to school. I have so many questions but when I ask its like talking to a brick wall... actually I get more information from concrete than I do with my parents

It wasn't exactly a secret that Trump is like this. It's hardly unexpected that the country that elected him would let him do what he was expected to do.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago (2 children)

California isn't. They paid out SNAP in full starting this morning. It took the assembly a little time to pass an emergency bill.

[–] 7U5K3N@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 2 months ago

But my Tennessee governor told us that they had no way to get state funds onto federal cards!! It was just too difficult so they weren't going to use the $2,100,000,000 dollars in the "rainy day fund"

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Massachusetts is promising benefits in full by Saturday.

…. It’s unclear how since previously they said there wasn’t enough slack in the state budget and they didn’t say where the money would come from. They can’t possibly trust the federal govt so idk

[–] tired_n_bored@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

And the Republican party allows him to do what he wants

[–] ArchmageAzor@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

That there are no riots over this is telling. I mean, Nepal had a whole revolution over nepotism.

[–] the_q@lemmy.zip -3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's not like we can do anything about it though.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 months ago

Is that you, Hakeem Jeffries?

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 103 points 2 months ago (2 children)

This the same guy prevented from running a charity in New York because he stole from kids with cancer?

The demented rapist pedo guy? That one?

[–] lauha@lemmy.world 40 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You're talking about the convicted criminal? Mr. Twice impeached?

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 39 points 2 months ago

No, I think he's on about the guy who has had at least 26 different women accusing him of sexual assault. That guy!!

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 25 points 2 months ago (2 children)

The guy planning to build the Epstein Ballroom on a government building with mysterious donors

[–] sepi@piefed.social 10 points 2 months ago

Epstein's Balls' Room

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 months ago

He was upset because there was a list of everyone flying there so he figured why not keep it closer to home.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 64 points 2 months ago (2 children)

This is completely expected.

At least we’re not labeling them terrorists and bombing them as they starve.

Yet.

[–] SeeMarkFly@lemmy.ml 17 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The target practice for THAT is currently offshore.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They were lobbing artillery from ships over the I5 last week

[–] SeeMarkFly@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yea,, the California Governor shut down the freeway just before they got one.

Governors helping people, what an amazing time to be alive.

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world -1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yes, but that governor doesn't spend every waking moment quoting Karl Marx, so he's as bad as Trump.

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 months ago

Hey, Meal Team Six, take your gaslighting somewhere else. Newsom's our governor, and if we want him out, we'll fucking elect someone else.

[–] mushroomman_toad@lemmy.dbzer0.com 53 points 2 months ago

but but but people on snap are 300 pounds!! They buy diet coke, only I should be allowed to drink diet coke! They need to lose weight!! muh taxes!!

Republicans don't understand how little money actually goes to snap, and love to put hypocritical demands on welfare recipients.

[–] applebusch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 34 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Seriously though why the fuck does it seem like they get to just appeal shit forever no matter how many times their position is shown to have zero merit, legal standing, or even basic logic?

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

When they own the Judicial branch, they get to play dollies with the whole thing.

[–] Fuck_u_spez_@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

But only with two dolls.

[–] tired_n_bored@lemmy.world 24 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I don't think he cares about children. He raped them.

[–] Sculptor9157@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 months ago

Maybe if he knew there wouldn't be children to rape if they weren't fed, he would change his mind?

[–] manxu@piefed.social 13 points 2 months ago

Don't worry! He's only doing that temporarily, because he knows that while he doesn't care about the starving children, the Democrats do. And he needs the Democrats because he doesn't like the Affordable Care Act, because Obama helped make it a law, and everything Obama did has to be undone. Once the Democrats help him nuke the ACA, the starving children can eat again! (They better not choke on anything, though, or get food poisoning, because they might not have health care any longer.)

[–] BorgDrone@feddit.nl 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

But only until he can take their healthcare away.

[–] pachrist@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Wow, wow... He's not taking their Healthcare away. He's just making it prohibitively expensive.

[–] BorgDrone@feddit.nl 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, those lazy people should just go get some more money. Maybe get a small $1,000,000 loan.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

If they wanted healthcare, they should have chosen a better family to be born into

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago

He's only appealing it for show, though. He won't comply no matter what the result is, and nobody will make him.

[–] Bamboodpanda@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

He thinks that his messaging of blaming the Democrats is working. The worse things get, the better he thinks that messaging becomes. He knows his base will never know or care what he is doing, only that he says it's the Democrats fault.

This is literally a winning strategy from his perspective.

Cruelty is literally the point.

[–] LaLaLa@ani.social 3 points 2 months ago

No surprises here.

[–] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Crime is about to go up. People get poor, can't afford housing and eating food, they get desperate. Supposedly they're trying to get rid of crime.
