If local authorities were going to investigate the CBP agent’s shooting of Bautista, the case would probably fall to the Oakland Police Department.

...

Asked whether OPD is investigating the shooting, the department said it “has no authority to oppose or prevent federal investigations” and referred further questions to DHS.

When Trump inevitably dies, all of these trumpers will talk about how they didn't like him and thought he was a tyrant. Don't let them. They necessarily have to be removed from our society.

When Trump inevitably dies, all of these trumpers will talk about how they didn't like him and thought he was a tyrant.

Hopefully, anyway.

[–] chillpanzee@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 week ago (2 children)

They'll only ever do that if the political climate shifts in a way that makes being MAGA toxic. If he dies before that, they'll gather in stadiums to celebrate his passing as a hero, like they did for Charlie Kirk.

[–] joelfromaus@aussie.zone 4 points 1 week ago

If the death of Kirky thought me anything it’s that; even here, halfway across the world, the most seemingly sane of us will come out to mourn Trump and remember ‘the good things that he did’. Death is a convenient way to whitewash the hell out of terrible people and make them into martyrs.

the gop is basically magaGOP , if magaMANIA dies the gop will decline significantly, since most of the old guard already being replaced.

In the immediate aftermath of losing to Biden in 2020, the conservatives on Reddit moaned about how bad Trump was and how he did a terrible job. The same people voted for him then and again in 2024. They know all these things about it, but they like it and want it.

They necessarily have to be removed from our society

How do you envision this going down?

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

A fair trial and a firing squad.

[–] datavoid@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I hate to break it to you, but if you send 30% of Americans to the death squads you are now the problem.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The ICE paramilitary is not 30% of Americans.

[–] datavoid@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I thought we were talking about trumpers

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I understand where the confusion came from. I’m talking about the people in the article, which I guess were CPB not ICE but there isn’t much difference between the two, neither follow the law.

Edit: dang you’re taking an unfair beating for talking about a subthread instead of the article when the discussion was clearly ambiguous lol

Can we pweeese at least fill up alligator Alcatraz to 2x capacity with the voters? There’s gotta be some kind of poetic justice. If 30% of the country sees these deportations as legal and just then I don’t see why they shouldn’t be happy to receive them.

[–] novibe@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 week ago

That didn’t even work in Nazi Germany. Unless there’s a revolution in the US, the fascism will just be whitewashed.

Like the first West German government had more ex-Nazi party members forming it than the actual Nazi government. The first general of NATO was a Nazi general. The CIA of Germany was formed by Reinhardt Gehlen, a Nazi spy. He was the director for YEARS. Like from the Gehlen Org (predecessor to the BND - German CIA) to the actual BND he was the president and director for over two decades. A Nazi spy master was the director of the German CIA for over TWO DECADES. From 1947 to 1968. SIXTY EIGHT.

Lots of Trump supporters are happy to admit they don't like him as a person (he's not "churchy") but they like what he's doing (supporting Christian nationalism).

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club 4 points 1 week ago

The work "Trump" is doing is done in a way that a successor can pick up the torch & carry it forward.

[–] falseWhite@lemmy.world 57 points 1 week ago

I bet my ass that nothing will happen. It seems the US courts are just full of hot air. They keep "ruling" how those ICE detentions are illegal to begin with, but absolutely nothing changes, they just continue to kidnap people daily.

Lol federal agent makes me laugh. They act like they're the FBI. Its like giving a family of chimpanzees kevlar helmets, weaponry and cellphones.

[–] TargaryenTKE@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

They still have Kevlar helmets and weapons though... still dangerous. Pathetic and (if America still had any justice left) illegal, but still dangerous

"It was the best of times..it was the blurst of times? "

"Bah! Stupid monkey!"

Monkey 1: This is the blurst day of my life.

Monkey 2: The blurst day of your life so far.

Is it any different if it was a pastor?

[–] GlitchyDigiBun@lemmy.world 54 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It is if you're spinning it to win the religious constituency away from fascism.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 week ago

depends if this pastor is evangelical/televangelical, otherwise magats dont care.

[–] Muscle_Meteor@discuss.tchncs.de 21 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Conservatives tend to see them as moral paragons. Theres much less room for whataboutism or bothsidesism when its a pastor/priest.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Conservatives tend to see them as moral paragons.

when they aren't molesting kids.

I'm glad you had better experiences with Christians, but mine shows them supporting pedophiles. Repeatedly.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Presumably it's a "women and children" kind of thing. The victim being a (presumably) respectable member of the local community adds some emotional oomph to something that is already bad, though Lemmy is way to anticlerical for this sort of thing to be effective.

[–] slaneesh_is_right@lemmy.org 4 points 1 week ago

If he was a pedo pastor, Trump might actually start to care

[–] chillpanzee@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 week ago

Grifter on grifter hate. lol

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What struck me is that the CBP didn't even respond to comment. Even the IDF pretends to investigate its war crimes.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 week ago

IDF/benny still needs propaganda on thier side.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Local police need to start arresting these criminals or be fired.

[–] grimpy@lemmy.myserv.one 4 points 1 week ago
