Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). 4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

(I watched the whole ad)

Yeah...

I mean, I'm a local ML tinkerer. I'm practically an AI-loving extremist on Lemmy, and this is just... weird? Even if I was a New York Republican or whatever, it feels like a clickbait supplement ad your boomer uncle'd send you from Facebook, complete with emojiis.

I think this is why many like Trump. For all his antics and trolling, it's often authentic, where this feels like an alien trying to figure out what a young adult would tweet.

I'd say Cuomo needs to be authentic, too, but that'd probably be even worse, heh.

My feelings on AI are also complicated, but I'm glad we all agree this is radioactive trash.

I love to play around with local AI; random github releases, local-hosted-and-use LLMs, and free code seem genuinely interesting, even if I don't plan to do anything public. And when it doesn't feed back to a corporation, and the benefits go only to the user, I'm usually for it.

Like...My local-hosted Immich server has AI image recognition, fully locally hosted, no corporate parasitic training use, just the ability to use language to search. Like, I can immediately find that one picture from 15 years ago that I know has a dog in it by searching for "dog" and scrolling a tiny bit.

But AI platforms use that seeks to reinforce power (corporations like Google and Meta, politicians like Trump and Cuomo, billionaires like Musk) or startups obviously staking claims to try to capture and monetize users (OpenAI, and the fifty thousand other techbro VC simp startups) are physically repulsive to me.

ML tech isn’t bad, just like blockchain isn’t bad. It’s the gross capitalist opportunism happening around it that makes it overpromise (to the detriment of quality), overbuild (to the detriment of the environment), overuse (to the detriment of the economy), and overstimulate (to the detriment of mental health) while stealing the hard work of basically all of humanity up to this point (like then or not, the material reality is that these companies should be compensating artists and authors alike for their work being used for training).

And with all that power, they do THIS fucking shit with it.

I’m all for local LLMs to be assistants, autocompletes, and reference librarians; but just like the web, they were better when you had to be a fucking turbo-nerd to get them working.

One unique thing I've observed is that big firms, especially the US ones, seem to miss all the cool innovations coming from LLM research papers... unless its in house, of course.

So it's also insular corporate 'don't innovate, scale up' culture kind of poisoning them too. They don't have to be so expensive and big to be useful tools.

[–] AldinTheMage@ttrpg.network 1 points 1 week ago

Also the fact that a lot of the big firms really seem to be just interested in it as a way to get more user data. People will share some pretty sensitive info with an LLM that they wouldn't otherwise provide.

Running locally is definitely the way to go, if you're going to use them.

We can now confirm that Cuomo’s Facebook feed is so AI slopped he sees this as perfectly normal

Turns out the algorithm was the brain worms we made along the way, or something

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

trump is advising him Cuomo on his campaign...

That's how out of touch neoliberal all, they don't see voters as "us" regard of how we vote. We're poor and low class, they have more in common with trump than anyone who would actually vote for them

That's why they're so out of touch and keep losing to actual fascists. The fascists at least play to their base.

The ad

Warning though as it’s kind of hard to watch, so much cringe.

[–] mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

So first off, this isn’t actually the ad described in the article. Which means this has happened more than once.

But even with the ad you linked, I went into it thinking “eh, how bad can it be?” It’s worse than I could have imagined. It’s like they went out of their way to make the worst “train wreck in slow motion” political ad possible.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Holy cow that’s some deep hurting

[–] HuskerNation@lemmynsfw.com 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Do politicians even address policy and actual problems in ads anymore or is it all just using scary words about their opponents

[–] Lyrl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago

In our first-past-the-post voting system, politicians who address policy don't get enough votes to win elections. After consistent losses, evolution of election consultants and candidate recruitment has made the "address policy" meme near-extinct.

I believe ranked choice voting could help, but it would take multiple election evolution cycles (at least a decade) foe the now-rare political memes to rebreed up to significant population levels.

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 11 points 1 week ago

The hilarious thing is the ruling class couldn't find a better bullshitter in a city of 10 million people than Cuomo.

[–] Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Crazy how Americans are scare by the word socialism. Like, Canada is a social democracy and it hasn't turned into Stalin's USSR. People just live longer, healthier and kids don't risk to get shot at school.

[–] SoloCritical@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Crazy how being against fascism is also terroristic in America. Like hating Hitler and thinking the things he did was wrong is just one example that can get your rights stripped and thrown into Guantanamo.

[–] Grimy@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

"see, I'm a socialist, some people need to get tricked while others get the treat"

Crazy seeing an ad like that come from someone who calls himself a democrat. The kind of low denominator bullshit the GoP peddles to the inbred part of its base.

[–] neidu3@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 week ago

Slammed! Was he blasted in the process too?

[–] Hubi@feddit.org 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He then proceeds to scoop up multiple sweets with both hands, before screaming and shouting the word “defund” when a child dressed as a police officer approaches the same house.

Why did that make me laugh

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Because it was really really really stupid

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 week ago

Lol! So, more "Capitalism is the real Socialism", kind of nonsense? Yeah. This is just brain-dead.

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 6 points 1 week ago

This is the second time Cuomo has released an ad using AI to make a Mamdani puppet say what they want.

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah well i SLAMMED cuomos mom last night

[–] SarcasticMan@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago
