Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

I hope EVERYONE knows they won't be getting ANY loan forgiveness. The whole work in civil service and get forgiveness is a myth and won't be happening.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 8 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

allegedly ice is getting the loan forgiveness, but you have to be in it so long , i doub they are actually following through with it. i highly suspect those who are employed by ice will be immediately rejected by employers when shit hits the fan and they are all let go one way or another.

Correction: They think they do.

[–] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 12 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Trump grifts everyone including his most loyal loyalists

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 7 points 5 months ago

he said they were the easiest grift from.

[–] Bassman1805@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago

Remember that time when the Trump campaign accounted for like 5% of ALL credit card fraud claims in the USA, for charging his supporters a monthly campaign donation when they thought they were doing a one-time donation?

[–] dubyakay@lemmy.ca 9 points 5 months ago

As if ice members have student loans. Most dropped out of elementary as soon as truancy laws did not apply to them any longer.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

I mean, it's literally been happening for years... I think they are going to try to do away with it entirely, but I think it's relatively difficult for them to do at the moment. Though I guess this tactic of excluding agencies and organizations that go against the "administration's interests " or whatever, might work if they keep expanding it..

But for the moment, it's literally still happening right now, and people are having their loans irrevocably forgiven.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 52 points 5 months ago (76 children)

Yeah, okay it’s bad and we 100% knew they were going to do things like this but Harris could have been interpreted to be transphobic, so. That’s why we had to have this, apparently.

Sometimes I wonder what happened to the Gays for Trump crowd. I hope some have changed course. But the ones I’ve been able to look in on seem to be caught in the denial step.

[–] BanMe@lemmy.world 34 points 5 months ago

I was a high profile gay because I came out in school and they nearly killed me. Won the Mathew Shepard scholarship. Somehow since then my mom has drifted so rightward, she's supporting these assholes now. She told me she's a "member of the log cabin republicans" which is when I told her she's no longer welcome in queer spaces, and cut her off.

She used to be pro-choice. When Roe fell, she said "maybe that's a good thing." I'm 100% sure she'll say the same when Obergefell goes. Maybe Lawrence too. Walking back her rights, her son's rights is OK as long as brown people are getting hurt.

[–] pleaseletmein@lemmy.zip 11 points 5 months ago (1 children)

On X, they’re all just saying this is happening because of trans people.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 11 points 5 months ago

Every time you think you know how dumb people are, they surprise you. And not in a good way.

I need a trumper to explain to me how this isn’t discriminatory. Explain to me like I’m as mentally challenged as your average maga cultist.

[–] Victoriathecompact@sh.itjust.works 17 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I admittedly stalk the r/conservative and r/republican subreddits.

1% is like "let's not do what the democrats were trying to do to us.. we're better!", 60% is like "yeah take that. Now you know what it feels like!". The rest just post "Thank you President Trump!"

[–] Stabbitha@lemmy.world 11 points 5 months ago

What on god's green earth makes you think trumpers want non-discriminatory policies?

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 9 points 5 months ago

It is discriminatory. And that's how Trumpers like it. The greatness the MAGA movement wants to return the country to is Jim Crow, segregation, child labor, etc.

They want you back in the mines with no PPE or health plan. You are expected to work until you're no longer useful, and then immediately die.

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 9 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Likely they'll say it's to "pay back for DEI".

[–] Sconrad122@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago (1 children)

So, affirmative action for the straights, guess MAGA no longer thinks AA is discriminatory lol

But it is supposed to be discriminatory.

[–] AniZaeger@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago (1 children)

It is discriminatory, and that's the point. He wants to see if he can get away with this, and when he does (because we all know SCOTUS will give him their blessing), he'll move on to people who have the "wrong" choice of religious preference, the "wrong" political beliefs, and the "wrong" immutable characteristics.

That's a protected class. What the fuck?

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 20 points 5 months ago (1 children)

My first reaction was also that it seems like an easy win in court. I hope that’s true

[–] 100_kg_90_de_belin@feddit.it 7 points 5 months ago

Once you get to the SC they'll just roll ever for Trump

What a piece of shit

[–] BackgrndNoize@lemmy.world 26 points 5 months ago (7 children)

I've always found it creepy that job descriptions ask you to mention irrelevant details on job application pages like this

[–] loonsun@sh.itjust.works 14 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Those things originally were to help prevent discrimination through thr actions of thr EEOC. Under this administration though nothing is sacred.

[–] BackgrndNoize@lemmy.world 9 points 5 months ago (1 children)

It's a double edged sword, what is supposed to help you can also be used to hurt you. Remember the Nazis used census data to find Jewish people

If he wants to fuck gay people so bad he could just ask nicely

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 29 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Asking for consent? That's not Trump's way.

Republicans don't even speak English anymore. They speak ragebait. Congratulations if you managed to get through that entire first quote without clicking away.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 14 points 5 months ago (2 children)

"You're gay, you don't get loan forgiveness."

"I'm not gay."

"Prove it."

"Prove it? How?"

"Doesn't matter, everybody's gay, nobody gets loan forgiveness."

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago

As I read the headline, it's sounds like they are removing LGBTQ organization from the list of places you can work to get loan forgiveness...

So they wont deny your loan forgiveness if you are gay, just if you work for a place that has a mission to help gay people.

Still fucking disgusting, because I would bet that there are christian organizations that still get forgiveness.

How would they prove a person's sexual preference?

[–] echolalia@lemmy.ml 40 points 5 months ago (3 children)

Donald Trump’s Education Department (ED) released a new rule to deny student loan forgiveness to people who work for LGBTQ+ organizations.

It is based on the nonprofit they work for, not their gender expression/sexuality. So, basically the administration can just decide if he doesn't like the organization you work for, you're screwed. Obviously wrong and messed up.

BTW that is the first sentence of the article. Seems like the people replying to you didn't read it either.

[–] Hermit_Lailoken@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago (2 children)

My bad. Thanks for clearing that up.
