A pro-MAGA website that urged supporters to fund a database unmasking Charlie Kirk critics took tens of thousands in crypto—then vanished, infuriating donors.

The site, Expose Charlie’s Murderers, launched hours after the assassination of the right-wing influencer, 31, in September. It promised a searchable trove of names and workplaces for “the largest firing operation in history,” according to Drop Site’s review of the now-offline project.

The site listed six crypto wallets and raised more than $30,000 between Sept. 12 and 14 before repeatedly going dark, resurfacing as the “Charlie Kirk Data Foundation,” and disappearing again, Drop Site reported.

I should seriously just start grifting maga people. It seems really easy.

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 86 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I wanna make a site that promises the same shit, then let people donate a bunch collect all their info, then accidentally leak everything, showing who these fascist are that donate to shit like this.

[–] aceshigh@lemmy.world 50 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Don’t sell the data. Make a site and grift. Shut down that site, create another grifting site and directly contact people who already gave you money. No need to cold call.

[–] Archer@lemmy.world 24 points 5 days ago

This is why one of the most valuable things scammers have are lists of people who have fallen for their scams. Getting out of the business? Sell it. Need more money? Do another run

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 12 points 5 days ago (5 children)

I mean you could but I doubt anyone would care enough to have any meaningful impact on these peoples lives. Idk maybe I’m wrong.

Congrats, you figured out how to be a Republican politician

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 9 points 5 days ago

Yeah, if you have no morals, you can go far in this life as a Republican grifter.

[–] Typhoon@lemmy.ca 16 points 5 days ago (2 children)

If Trump can fool them, you can too.

I’ve been saying for years that with my skillset, I could easily be a millionaire if my pesky ethics didn’t get in the way.

And instead, here I am, every month, deciding cat food is more important than my own food.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Hey, on the chance you aren't joking, most food banks I'm familiar with serve everyone, no questions. Well they might ask how many in your household to make sure to give you enough food.

This is an outrage, and shady as fuck, and these scammers need to be hunted down to face justice.

If you're a MAGA faithful who has been ripped off by these charlatans, I have some sophisticated tracking software that uses quantum AI to uncover scam tracks. Just send me a private message with your credit card number, expiry date, and the three numbers on the back, and I will take care of things.

Send me a DM with your banking info, and I'll subscribe you to my Never Get Had in the First Half cyber protection service.

Which is also quantum.

Maybe we should start a new website to solicit donations to unmask the people who ran the previous grift site. Then, when we have a bunch of money, we close up shop and make up some bullshit about how we couldn't find them. /s

[–] derry@midwest.social 13 points 5 days ago

We sacked the grifters who grifted the first grifters

Being maga and getting scammed. Name a better pair.

[–] jmsy@lemmy.world 38 points 5 days ago

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 28 points 5 days ago

A pro-MAGA website that urged supporters to fund a database unmasking Charlie Kirk critics took tens of thousands in crypto—then vanished, infuriating donors.

It's technically a crime, but somehow I don't feel sorry for the victims.

[–] Sunflier@lemmy.world 24 points 5 days ago

A fool and their money are soon parted

[–] KairuByte@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 5 days ago

Unironically wish I had thought about this first. I could use an extra $30k.

[–] myfunnyaccountname@lemmy.zip 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Is it too late to do it again? Just asking for a friend

[–] zebidiah@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 days ago

Are you really asking if you can run the same grift on the "fell for it, again" crowd a second time?

[–] Bennyboybumberchums@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Theres grifters for everyone. Black Lives Matter, super important thing that happened. Still had grifters abuse it for their own gain. Christ, even Pepsi tried to get in on out, but were called out for basically implying that racist cops could be cured by drinking a fucking pepsi...

And how many companies every year sell pink and rainbow merch, only to pocket most or all of the profits?

Wounded Warrior project. Supposed to be about the wounded vets, instead it was about filling other peoples pockets.

And of course, the cream of the crop, televangelists... "I need a plane!!!!"

Remember #metoo? But do you also remember the times up foundation, that was supposedly set up to get victims legal support? Yeah, you guessed it. Nothing but a grift for hollywood types to show how they were the "good ones" while taking money and resources away from actual victims. Never forget the name Roberta Caplan. The chair of the times up board, who was only too happy to help in drafting letters that would discredit Andrew Cuomos accusers. Tina Tchen, the CEO, also helped Cuomo during that time.

No matter what the issue is, no matter which way you lean, there will always, ALWAYS, be someone ready and willing to take your fucking money, and spend on fast cars and loose women.

[–] burntbacon@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 5 days ago (3 children)

ow many companies every year sell pink

Don't even get me started on that bullshit. They fund peanuts in research, and a very moderate amount to 'helping' people with breast cancer. The 'goal' of the organization is literally in the tagline: raise breast cancer awareness. That's it. The absolutely insane amount of visibility they get (because who cares about the nearly $200 million in money they [currently] bring in, right? Don't even worry about that amount) is the only point. My mother reached out to them when she found out she had breast cancer, and the best they could do was suggest she pick up the pamphlets at the oncologist's office.

I have a hyper intelligent A.I tracking software to find these swindlers. If you wanna sighn up, it's only 100 dollars.

[–] switcheroo@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago

Someone is surprised? It's a grift. It's always a grift.

[–] Sibshops@lemmy.myserv.one 21 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Imagine caring so much about a podbro.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

IKR? That's what boggles the mind. I best most wingers, even some of the terminally online, didn't know or GAF about this guy before he got shot. And now they are all butthurt about a dude they didn't even know before...

As I've said before, when he got shot, I cannot count how many times someone in my life asked, "Charlie who?" or later said they had no idea who he even was....he had 3.8 million followers, which sounds like a lot, but many of those could be bots (there are entire systems to get "followers" that you can buy in various places). We have no idea if those numbers reflect actual people and that's worldwide.

2x that number showed up to No Kings last weekend. That's real people, in person and in one country. For the people carrying this weird torch for some Nazi influencer....someone needs to sit them down and tell them to stop trying to make "Kirk" happen. They can make statues and name streets after him, but seriously? No one is really going to remember much about this guy....

Right? I hope they were lefties.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago

Fuck, most normal Americans who are presented with things that Kirk has actually said would be "critics".

[–] titanicx@lemmy.zip 7 points 5 days ago

You all know about the Salem witch trials right. ? (This is relevant, I promise).

So I always figured if I had been accused of witch craft, firstly I would admit it immediately, cause they would just torture me until I did, so may as well spare myself having my fingernails pulled off or whatever it is they would do.

But I figured I'd take down as many as I could.

First I'd give them this grand salacious spicy story of doing it with the devil in the woods. First I'd mention one of the other gals who has already been convicted of being a witch (to give me some credibility). She was definitely there.

But then.. I'd start mentioning some other women.

Wives. Daughters. Of the clergy. The women who were pushing for my arrest. I'd say we had a Satan orgy.

Might throw in some details about her nipples or pubic hair that would likely be true. But purely a guess. Just to prove I had seen her naked.

If I knew of any birth marks or something I'd def use that.

As my story grew I would add more and more names. The story would be so suspenseful. So much detail. It would have to be true.

And that's how I'd take the whole lot of them down with me.

Why do I share this historic revenge fantasy with you all.?

Why because we could apply it to any modern situation with the gop crackdown on dissenters and antifa.

They want to come after us. Interrogate us.

Give them likely credible accomplices who are already flagged. But then start leaking in their own.

Causing suspicion. Causing doubt. Paranoia.

Take them all down with you.

Admit you were doing whatever they accused you of. But insist you have accomplices from their side. Have somethinh prepared a head of time to look credible. Like dates they were in specific locations and such.

I feel like I have to explain myself a bit because this all sounds rather dark.

-Im actually a really friendly pleasant person most of the time. but I have a very strong aversion to injustice (especially to vulnerable people,) and I typically support vigilantes (when the system fails them).

Idk. When I was a kid learning about the Salem witch trials and Anne Frank. I thought. What could these women had done differently to at least take the bad guys out on their way out?

If I recall. Part of the reason the witch hunting stopped was because women would do as I suggested. They started naming high ranking women as collaborators and even some of the men.

Start a website. Name obvious leftest who are anti Kirk.

But then start leaking in their own members.

Definitely ask for donations.
