Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

A pro-MAGA website that urged supporters to fund a database unmasking Charlie Kirk critics took tens of thousands in crypto—then vanished, infuriating donors.

The site, Expose Charlie’s Murderers, launched hours after the assassination of the right-wing influencer, 31, in September. It promised a searchable trove of names and workplaces for “the largest firing operation in history,” according to Drop Site’s review of the now-offline project.

The site listed six crypto wallets and raised more than $30,000 between Sept. 12 and 14 before repeatedly going dark, resurfacing as the “Charlie Kirk Data Foundation,” and disappearing again, Drop Site reported.

I should seriously just start grifting maga people. It seems really easy.

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 86 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I wanna make a site that promises the same shit, then let people donate a bunch collect all their info, then accidentally leak everything, showing who these fascist are that donate to shit like this.

[–] aceshigh@lemmy.world 50 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Don’t sell the data. Make a site and grift. Shut down that site, create another grifting site and directly contact people who already gave you money. No need to cold call.

[–] Archer@lemmy.world 24 points 5 days ago

This is why one of the most valuable things scammers have are lists of people who have fallen for their scams. Getting out of the business? Sell it. Need more money? Do another run

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 12 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I mean you could but I doubt anyone would care enough to have any meaningful impact on these peoples lives. Idk maybe I’m wrong.

[–] FunctionallyLiterate@lemmy.ca 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Not in this administration, but hopefully the next will lock up the more egregious offenders and this could just be one more nail in their figurative coffin.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Seeing what the democrats have been doing in the past, do you think that’s even realistic to assume they would pursue something like that? I hard doubt they would.

[–] FunctionallyLiterate@lemmy.ca 4 points 5 days ago

The old school style ones, no. But I'm hoping more and more progressives take up positions within the party, and - along with those older ones dying off - transform it to what it should have been for some time now. To me, the positive attention Mamdani's been getting across the country shows there's a good chance for that to happen.

If the data gets around I bet it could hurt their relationships with family and friends. Yeah, no legal consequences, but probably social ones.

[–] Prathas@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago

And their businesses if they're business owners.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 44 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Congrats, you figured out how to be a Republican politician

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 9 points 5 days ago

Yeah, if you have no morals, you can go far in this life as a Republican grifter.

[–] Typhoon@lemmy.ca 16 points 5 days ago (2 children)

If Trump can fool them, you can too.

[–] FunctionallyLiterate@lemmy.ca 4 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

It's like the '80s all over again, just with grifters learning from Trump.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

Exactly. He was able to sell them shitty watches and "collectible" JPGs, LOL.

I’ve been saying for years that with my skillset, I could easily be a millionaire if my pesky ethics didn’t get in the way.

And instead, here I am, every month, deciding cat food is more important than my own food.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Hey, on the chance you aren't joking, most food banks I'm familiar with serve everyone, no questions. Well they might ask how many in your household to make sure to give you enough food.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 4 points 5 days ago

I’m not joking, and thanks.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 5 days ago

Let's be fair, it's because you can hear their tiny, insistent voices in your head, slinking their purring opinions along your trail of thought as you weigh the options mid-aisle... Clever li'l devils, and precious idiots, all. 😅🤪

[–] Wytch@lemmy.zip 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Not like anyone ever seems to get punished for it

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 days ago

Hell, Bannon got a pardon from that exact crime

[–] Philote@lemmy.ml 4 points 5 days ago

Like those 4patriots over priced survival kits and power stations. Ha ha. What a ripoff.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I want to but every idea I have feels too stupid to work.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Something like this has happened like 20 times that im aware of since the whole maga bullshit started. I’m beginning to think no idea is too stupid to work.

The problem comes down to knowing how to speak their language in such a way as to manipulate them. Problem is that for many such actions are vile to no end, or are so against their fundamental cultural, philosophical, or religious tenants so as to be completely repulsive on instinct.

I may be a bastard but I ain't that type of bastard and I won't sully my name for for such a pitance.

[–] darkdemize@sh.itjust.works 5 points 5 days ago

The beauty of it is, no matter how stupid your idea seems, they are even stupider.
