Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

it's weird how threatened they are by those protests. i can't figure out if it's just them "trolling" or they are actually threatened by a bunch of (mostly) libs just having a street fair

it's like, you are supposed to let the libs enjoy their playpen and ignore it but they can't help but get wound up into searing white hot rage by even the basic pressure relief valve stuff

really interesting times. i don't think we use historical fascists as a good weather vane for what might be coming, because everything is so twisted and brain poisoned from the internet.

it's like society was forced into a kind of ad hoc gesalt consiousness and we are all swinging back and forth trapped inside a demented sociopaths inner monologue and intrusive thoughts

It’s faux outrage to appease their supporters. The No Kings Protest brought to you by the democratic party and fuckin wallmart are exactly what they want. They get nothing done, they’re nonviolent, they placate liberals and fixate their attention, and they’re an instagram moment for millennials and gen x with their “blah blah brunch” signs. What everyone was seeing in L.A. at the time the original no kings was announced is the opposite of what they want. People burning cop cars because they are losing their relatives the fucking gestapo getting shitloads of support and attention from the public. Notice how they’re doing this one while Chicago and Illinois are going down? Literally Nazis pulling children out of houses? Calling liberals snakes is an insult to snakes.

everyone who knew the outrage machine was just bullshitting for votes is dead, your fox news granddad runs the country now

I feel like these people were begging for some sort of great left wing uprising on the scale of George Floyd in 2020 that would allow them to go full scorched Earth on their opponents and since they haven’t gotten it they need to lathe it into existence.

Don't worry, I'm sure the Democrats will fight tooth and nail to ensure that Israel will still be able to exterminate its neighbors

[–] blunder@hexbear.net 32 points 5 months ago

Thank God this article points out that that would be illegal!

I feel like his brain is too pudding to remember to actually do it, and he'll have forgotten 5 minutes after that quote.

Barron Trump buys put options on Spirit Halloween 30 minutes before the Insurrection Act is invoked (they sell the inflatable frog costumes)

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 11 points 5 months ago (1 children)

The truanon sub was being weird about the costumes and very few seemed to realize that irs October and costumes are readily available

[–] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 2 points 5 months ago

Also a lot of people probably still have random inflatable costumes in their attic or garage. I did see quite a few frogs at NKD but I saw a lot of other random ones as well.

maybe i was wrong yesterday about protests maybe they will accomplish something after all 🙃

[–] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 21 points 5 months ago

i mean, go for it bruh. the sooner he demonstrates that there are zero checks on executive power at all, that it was always theater and there's no reason to have a legislative or judicial branch at all, that all activity inside the US lives or dies by executive decree.... we can get this charade over with.

A C C E L E R A T E

i'm just amazed by how pissed he seems to be about symbolic protest theater.

sorry, but my money is on the Alien and Sedition act. Odds are +300

[–] Clippy@hexbear.net 19 points 5 months ago

maybe should have been "no emperors", instead of "no kings".

but in seriousness, yikes.

"No more court cases... no more anything" sounds like a Hero who achieved great power before turning to nihilism and deciding to end the world.
