"Hey, I need a transfer to 172.20.100.93."

"I'm sorry sir, there's no route to that host."

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 60 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (4 children)

127.0.0.1, sir you've been on here all day.

Honestly if they did have numbers like that though it would help me remember, especially if the IPs were set to streets. 15.17.2.32:0820

Bus travels streets 15th and 17th from 2nd to 32nd, from 8am to 8pm

[–] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 64 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Seriously? Americans will do anything to avoid the metric system

[–] gingernate@sopuli.xyz 23 points 1 month ago (2 children)

We don't even have public buses

[–] entropicdrift@lemmy.sdf.org 9 points 1 month ago

Sure we do. Just only in and around cities

[–] mrmanager@lemmy.today 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Made me laugh!

[–] dan69@lemmy.world 32 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Thank god it’s not ipv6 up there.

[–] purplemonkeymad@programming.dev 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

But we are running out of unique bus numbers! What will we do when they run out?

[–] dan69@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

We have make sure it’s not using broadcast id and host id first.

[–] donuts@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Won't work in many other parts of the world, where there are actual street names instead of boring stuff like 15th and 17th

[–] Eheran@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Wait, that was not supposed to be the house number? That is the actual street "name"? Ooof

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Yeah I meant like this.

10.9.42.96:0422

Bus runs up 10th and down 9th from 42nd Street to 96th street. From 4am to 10pm (Made up route, just figured it would be an easy example)

[–] Eheran@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

And that is supposed to be easier than 2 digits or something you have to look up on a chart?

A lot of places name and number their roads, but yeah I know what you mean. Id prefer it if all streets were numbered. Did I pass Moss Cove? Not sure this is Pine Street, next is Willow Road, vs did I pass 17th, not sure this is 19th and next is 20th

[–] mr_satan@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 month ago

Jokes on you, there's no number in our street names.

[–] Pringles@sopuli.xyz 24 points 1 month ago (1 children)

"Wrong subnet. You will have to take a different route."

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

"Here, take this loopback device and then get off at the wlan hub, then take the ten-oh-ninety 2 stops through wireguard valley"

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

This comment makes me believe that you would enjoy the game Derail Valley Simulator. It's a VR Train Sim that isn't as crazy intensive on hardware as Train Sim World. I play it on a monitor as I don't have a VR setup, but I am seriously considering getting the Steam VR headset now.

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 2 points 4 weeks ago

thanks for the recommendation!

[–] Zer0_F0x@lemmy.world 150 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

I showed this to my gf and said "hah look baby, IP on the bus"

She said "ew, that's disgusting why would you do that?"

[–] mEEGal@lemmy.world 60 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Turn her off then on again, see if it fixes things.

Otherwise, I suggest you simply switch girlfriend providers

[–] humorlessrepost@lemmy.world 36 points 1 month ago

Sounds like he already turned her off. The challenge is the next step.

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 15 points 1 month ago

I showed this to my gall bladder and said "heh, look little dude, IP address on a bus"

He gurgled "I'm surprised you have the balls to say that"

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 46 points 1 month ago (3 children)

You just revealed the IP address of a device near you, and thus your location! Learn better OPSEC! /s

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 12 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

That's correct, it's in the town of Ödåkra, and the round glassy building reflecting in the window is the Väla shopping center.

[–] chellomere@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Tfw the 5000 population town you grew up in is mentioned on Lemmy 😳

[–] garfaagel@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

First I assumed you lived close by, but then I saw in your username that you are Czech. So now I assume that you are some geoguessr wiz that can recognize any shopping center in the world from a reflection in a bus window.

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I don't play Geoguessr, and I don't even really know which countries have left side driving or yellow paint. I am good with maps though, and there were only around 10 stops on the route @ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com identified, and the size of the building and parking lot narrowed it down to a few.

[–] garfaagel@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

Still some solid work. Thanks for saving us all from the unreasonably harrowing ignorance of not knowing exactly where a random picture on the internet was taken.

[–] kernelle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What do you think of my teapot website? http://127.0.0.1:418/

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 month ago

Well, the bus driver invited the editor in chief of Aftonbladet to the weekly staff meeting, so that horse already bolted 🤷

Sorry, this is a PCMCIA bus.

Skåne 🤑

[–] jadelord@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 month ago

A Scania bus in Skåne is definitely in its local network.

Skåne County (Swedish: Skåne län [ˈskôːnɛ ˈlɛːn]), sometimes referred to as Scania County or just Scania in English, is the southernmost county.

[–] Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Wow I knew Paris had a weird bus numbering system but this takes the cake /j

[–] Gobbel2000@programming.dev 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Even still I find this a bit shortsighted. You never know if in the future there might be more than 4 billion bus lines and you run out of numbers.

I would have thought that was Sweden, from the Swedish on the vehicle

[–] Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 month ago

Yes. But Sweden has a sensible bus numbering system so the joke wouldn't work.
