Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Doubtful.

ICE, CBP, and DHS have all drastically scaled back any activity against actual criminals.

They're going after the easiest targets possible, the cartels are probably loving trump. All he's doing is driving a wedge between governments and giving them more opportunities

[–] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 18 points 5 months ago

Probably a lie to prime their supporters for when they push people far enough and one of them does get shot. They can claim the cartels are out of control and we need martial law to stop them.

[–] aramis87@fedia.io 58 points 5 months ago

Lol, this is just them trying to justify them hiding their faces, not wearing badges, refusing to identify themselves, and taking the license plates off their cars.

[–] Skiluros@sh.itjust.works 44 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

Sounds like propaganda.

Cartels tend to be relatively cautious on US soil and make a genuine effort to avoid generating heat. There is limited benefit for them to get engaged in something like this especially considering the politically sensitive nature of targeting ICE specifically.

It's not impossible for one or two individuals to "take matters in their own hands", but I can't see this being a blanket policy implemented by senior leaders of multiple cartel groups.

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

Cartels love to have drugs illegal, as that generates a ton of money. But they also want to make sure that they can operate without too much resistance. Not only does it not make sense to hunt for ICE officers instead of DEA agents, it would also be against their own business interests to generate this amount of heat.

[–] Skiluros@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 months ago

Even hunting DEA agents is a massive stretch.

On a purely cost-benefit analysis basis, hunting for DEA agents is simply not worth it, it makes more business sense to take the loss and focus on the fact that drugs will continue to be profitable until there is full decriminalization (of any drug consumption) and legalization of less harmful drugs.

Well i don’t believe puppy killers so i’m gonna go ahead and press X to doubt.

[–] redsand@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 5 months ago

Doxx is weirdly high. High ranking officials are weirdly low.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 32 points 5 months ago (2 children)

This is fake, but I wish it was real.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 9 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

You don't think there's a booth with a neon flashing sign saying "cashout ICE bounties here" near the border with a cartel guy that is exchanging ICE corpses for large bags of cash?

Realistically, I'm sure most cartel members are on the ICE payroll for their day job. Not exactly an organization picky about who they hire.

do they have a gofund me?

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 27 points 5 months ago (1 children)

So, obviously this is a lie, but I think it's interesting that they're having to resort to this particular lie. Until now the argument has basically been "Ooooh, spooky scary antifa protesters!" as justification for their extreme tactics, unwarranted use of force, concealed identities, and all of the other bullshit. The fact that they're now having to raise the spectre of evil scary cartels going after them tells you that the public isn't buying the "scary protesters" line at all. Portland, in particular, have demolished that idea with their dancing frogs, street parties and naked bike rides.

[–] IamSparticles@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

And also, now they might start arresting protesters on suspicion of being cartel hitters or some such bullshit.

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Sure, but they've already got plenty of made up reasons to arrest people, all of which were harder to disprove than "Cartel hitman", a claim that would need serious fucking evidence.

Don't let them fool you. This isn't an escalation, it's a retreat. A small one, sure, but it signals that things aren't going their way.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 24 points 5 months ago (3 children)

Wishing does not make it so. This is so obviously fake. Why should the cartels give the US reason to go to open war on them?

[–] fodor@lemmy.zip 6 points 5 months ago (1 children)

And also the cartels employ many of those law enforcement officers, because of course they do, because it's much easier to smuggle dope when you own the cops. And they're probably not going to want to gun down their own employees, unless there's some good reason to do so.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 3 points 5 months ago

I believe you have the power dynamic reversed.

[–] 800XL@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Do you think the US would win Vietnam 2.0? Because that's what this would be.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I would not bet on the US winning it, but I can easily imagine the current US regime starting the big "South American War".

[–] Mirshe@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

We already started a war in Guatemala in the 50s that's still going on sort of.

[–] 800XL@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

Oh for sure. No idea how they'd plan on determining who was a cartel soldier or not unless they just pull a genocide like Israel.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 2 points 5 months ago

Especially considering the top recruiter and boss.

[–] Hegar@fedia.io 19 points 5 months ago

Definitely not true.

This is bullshit in the technical sense. It's not a lie, in the sense of hoping to deceive another with a known falsehood. It's speech uttered without any regard to whether it's true or not.

This just some bullshit nazis are spouting because they think they'll benefit by saying it.

[–] Wilco@lemmy.zip 16 points 5 months ago

Nah, that's not how its done. Saying they put a bounty on ICE is something a 10 year old would believe ... or a MAGA supporter.

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 16 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

I’m pretty sure they’re facing this resistance due to their thuggery when carrying out congress-passed laws.

ICE could be doing their job by helping immigrants navigate and fill out paperwork and educating new immigrants; instead they’re pepper bombing pastors standing in front of their offices praying for them.

[–] klammeraffe@lemmy.cafe 14 points 5 months ago

Cartels…. Are somehow “antifa” when translated into MAGAmoron

[–] selkiesidhe@sh.itjust.works 14 points 5 months ago

This is fake. Most likely started by the twat waffles in office trying to stir up shit so they "have an excuse" to start openly firing on protestors.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 13 points 5 months ago

Isn't 50k the same amount tom homan had in a bag. You don't think...

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 11 points 5 months ago

ABC is Sinclair, CBS is Bariweiss.com, MSN/NBC center right, CNN is trainwreck right. I can't trust legacy media.

Thanks Temu Hitler, you’ve got me siding with cartels.

Will they publish a list of dead ice agents? I want to point and laugh at their friends and family (the complicit ones at least)

[–] Ilixtze@lemmy.ml 8 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Never thought i'd be saying: Based cartels if true.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago

Kaiser Sose ordered the hit

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 4 points 5 months ago

I already wonder now why they even exist (border patrol, ice). In the near future the US will need Ads at the border to invite people.

Currently they would have to pay me a very large monthly sum to even consider immigration. But it really has to be substantial.

[–] Bgugi@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

Weird, I thought Trump was cool with bounties on government employees...
