The far-right congresswoman has increasingly broken ranks with the MAGA movement, leading even Donald Trump to wonder ‘What's going on with Marjorie?’

Marjorie Taylor Greene has hit out at her fellow Republicans for "doing nothing" about rising food and healthcare costs in her latest breach with the Trump administration.

In an interview with the conservative broadcaster Real America's Voice on Tuesday, the Georgia congresswoman warned that letting Joe Biden's Affordable Care Act subsidies expire at the end of the year would "crush" Americans' finances.

Those subsidies are now at the heart of a government shutdown that's lasted 15 days and counting. Senate Democrats are demanding the subsidies be extended as a condition of reopening the government while Republicans are refusing to budge.

This is like the third time I've agreed with her in the last month or two wtf is going on

[–] AreaKode@lemmy.world 113 points 5 days ago (1 children)

This is the really loud rat that slept in the wall right next to your head and pissed you off every night!

Now the ship is on fire. That loud, annoying rat is loudly abandoning ship. She may act dumb, but she's making some smart decisions (for her own preservation) right now.

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 31 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I think her being the "smart" one should tell us something about the rest of the Republicans. She's not the smart one. The rest of them are confident in the fascists ability to hold power through state violence. She appears smart because she's reacting to the unfavorable view most people have of the administration (while remaining loyal to Trump and never calling him out by name).

She's not being fed talking points now; so she actually is just defaulting to a somewhat reasonable position from shit she sees as popular.

She's not a part of the main leadership and she has only ever made a name for herself by being "more radical". Well, the Democrats are limp dicks and the Republicans are rounding up people and putting them in labor camps. The only move she has is to literally just say reasonable shit to remain relevant.

[–] grissino@lemmy.world 16 points 5 days ago

That describes a person smarter than I ever gave her credit for being.

[–] SuiXi3D@fedia.io 40 points 5 days ago (3 children)

The Overton window has shifted so far right that MTG seems like a bleeding heart liberal in comparison to the rest of the Republican Party.

She recently was on Tim Dillon podcast and my impression of the situation: She’s a duplicitous lip-server. Shes delusional enough to rationalize the impending healthcare disaster the dems point to as actually “lapses in Obamacare”, not at all because the BBB bill just passed by her party. Also, she is just protesting with dems where convenient because she is capitalizing on some popularity internal to MAGA. It’s easy to hold her party leaders to account and follow through on promises if that means getting some leverage later on.

Yep, we have now reached the point in the clownworld timeline where Marjorie Taylor Green, the Jewish Space Lasers lady who did campaign ads by just shooting a physical representation of 'socialism' with a 50 cal anti materiel rifle... this woman is seemingly a 'moderate Republican', a 'voice of reason' within the party, to use the mainstream political vernacular of roughly 10 years ago.

Go back 10 years, and if you told anyone that anything like this was even possible, much less probable, likely, you would be called insane.

And that's not a hypothetical, because I did, and I was.

What that shows you is how immensely brainwashed and politically illiterate and/or disingenuous almost everyone, on all sides, was, institutional or citizen, political news junkie / official wonk or couldn't care less.

The headline gets it wrong. She's not breaking ranks with MAGA. She's beginning to lead it.

She's breaking ranks with Trump.

[–] madjo@feddit.nl 10 points 4 days ago

MTG finally realizing that the "do nothings" aren't the democrats, but her own party... I did not have that on my bingo card.

[–] NateNate60@lemmy.world 29 points 4 days ago (9 children)

The more I hear from this woman, the more I feel like there might actually be a decent heart deep down inside who wants to better her country, but is being hindered by an incredibly stupid brain that is calling the shots.

[–] Washedupcynic@lemmy.ca 11 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I hope that's true. The cynic in me thinks she's playing the long game and plans to make a presidental run, which means breaking away from MAGA to be more palatable to reublican, neoliberal, and independent voters. The cynic in me also thinks that she's pissed she didn't get a cabinet spot, so she's breaking with the party to throw a metaphoric tantrum. All speculation; I really hope she's come to her senses.

No. Shes nothing more than a bilge rat that senses the ship sinking and is dutifully scurrying to higher decks to save her own ass.

Don’t trust this bimbo.

But see, now, it's ruining the wrong people's lives.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 7 points 3 days ago

Isn't it obvious? She's positioning herself for a presidential run in 2028 by pointing out issues she has with the current administration, and where she would make improvements.

She's going to run for president in 2028. Which also means not all MAGAs aren't on board with a permanent Trump presidency. They're all jackals, they want a bite at the prey, too.

The real reverse fetterman

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 46 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (3 children)

I mean... she voted for the healthcare subsidies to expire by voting for the Big Bullshit Bill.

I feel like she's just playing the usual games here. She could have not voted for the BBB. The Democrats are simply trying to roll back changes that were made in the BBB.

So, was she just an idiot who didn't read the bill (possible) or just playing the rotating villain (more probable imho).

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 29 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

I think I kind of believe her when she said she cares now because her adult children's premiums will be doubling.

And I have an even easier time believing that she didn't know that was going to happen until after she voted for the bill.

I like how she’s changing but republicans have always screwed the working class. I guess she’s just figuring out what her party is about. I’m in full support of her calling out both parties for allowing Israel to buy their loyalty with AIPAC money though

[–] hotdogcharmer@lemmy.zip 6 points 4 days ago

Ew Jesus Christ can we get some kind of blur on pictures of this absolute meathead? It's like getting flashbanged when this leering simian head pops into my feed 😂

Anyway, whatever this dipshit is saying, she's a racist, the loudest moron in the room, and a Christian nationalist. Fuck that. She's still the enemy.

[–] Baguette@lemmy.blahaj.zone 21 points 5 days ago (1 children)

See I would say a broken clock is right twice a day but somehow this entire country has gone to such shit that even she's right more than twice

[–] BanMe@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago (2 children)

She's trying to ignite a new form of populism against Maga. It might work really well.

She's a hateful...hateful...person. But she's not stupid.

She knows that when the public turns on Trump/Maga, they'll likely be reactionary and look to his most vocal detractors for leadership. She wants in on that when the orange fuckwit finally eats the last burger that clogs his aorta for the last time.

That's Gavin Newsom's play as well. Setting themselves up to the be faces of a post Trump America by being as vocal as possible now, banking on the hope that with Trump gone, MAGA will devolve into internecine chaos followed by nuremberg trials for Miller, Vance, Bondi and the entire gang of chucklefucks.

Vance and Miller on the other handing, are on every news station in America hoping to be the face of MAGA itself, hoping that they have the rizz to wrangle the movement and prevent the above mentioned internecine chaos.

MTG's approach to politics is to say the most outrageous shit to gain attention and clout. She has no principles at all, other than "Any publicity is good publicity".

Right now, she's being crowded out by all the other Republicans like Nancy Mace, Pam Bondi, Kristi Noem etc. being just as crazy as she is. She can't go any crazier without losing support, so she has to pivot in the opposite direction in order to stand out and get the media's attention like she used to.

It's working, by the way. Until she started saying this stuff, did you see anything from MTG? I didn't.

[–] normalexit@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

I don't trust her; she's still a terrible Christian nationalist. I do agree on some of her more reasonable takes lately, but she still has an angle to stay in power.

Like keep saying things to challenge the bastards, but I'll never support her.

[–] unabart@sh.itjust.works 10 points 4 days ago (2 children)

She’s got someone in her ear. No way she’s coming up with this on her own volition.

[–] Newsteinleo@midwest.social 8 points 4 days ago

This actually fits with her. Like she is crazy but she also cares about people, so long as they aren't Jewish or brown.

It's weird how Marj is just now figuring the Republican Party is full of Republicans.

High cost of living for the non-centimillionaires? Who gives a flying fuck!

The conservative project is about punching down on liberals, women, POC, LGBTQ, non-xtians, foreigners, and especially the poor. It's about lifting up the very rich and platforming Nazi assholes like Charlie Kirk.

None of which is going to do anything about healthcare costs, or cost of living. It's not intended to.

They aren't "doing nothing". They're collecting the profits.

[–] LoafedBurrito@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Shit has hit the fan when normal Americans agree with MTG. She used to love the Nazi's, but I think she is seeing that she may also end up in prison for fascist crimes.

[–] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

Because he lied to get elected, MTG. That's why.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

Wtf did she think was going to happen? She helped create a monster that she can't control. The Stupid America she wanted created the exact conditions for this.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

Weirdest ally ever.

But people should make no mistake this woman is no friend to liberals or liberal ideas she is a populist. She goes with what she thinks is popular. Not unlike Trump.

She is also an entrenched homophobic antisemitic racist. So, there's that.

[–] webdox@lemmy.world 18 points 5 days ago

This is a vile woman who will stab anyone in the back if given the chance. She is, however, consistent. She is anti war/nation building and anti Pedophile She just gets her strings tugged by a different pet billionaire. One that is allowing her to go off cuff more. She would get many centrists vote if she took the Trump crime ring down.

did she have some kind of epiphany? or just getting bullied by her GOP colleagues for being a woman, and now she's lashing out?

either way, i wouldn't complain about more of this from more republicans

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 11 points 4 days ago (1 children)

She saw working class white christians being harmed while “doing nothing wrong”. She has some version of morals and a soul she’s just racist.

[–] U7826391786239@lemmy.zip 9 points 4 days ago

she’s just racist

pretty sure that's a prerequisite for just the privilege of calling yourself republican. yes, black republicans hate black people too
