Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Lot of talk...

We can't afford to give credit for people talking about shit. If it happens later, give credit to the prosecutors and low level government employees who make it happen.

The reason every primary is the same wealthy neoliberals, is they suck up all the media attention.

I agree. This site is fucking infuriating sometimes.

[–] dellish@lemmy.world 15 points 5 months ago (1 children)

But he doesnt want to do something, that's the problem. Saying we might look at prosecutions maybe one day after Trump is out is not the action of someone who's wanting to do something while, right NOW, ICE is running amok in his city. Dems need to either act, or STFU. Enough with the posturing.

[–] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 24 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (2 children)

It’s almost like you need to KNOW who the person is and have an actual case to…uh, prosecute? You don’t just go throwing cases around. You do have to “look” into things first.

The people in charge of ICE are federal and have internal loyalists that won’t give up names or deployments to state authorities. It’s documented somewhere though and it won’t be found until after Trump is out because you need to get people in who can put pressure through firings and appointments who will then be able to collect that info.

[–] dellish@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

Well, yeah, apart from all that. Fair points.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 12 points 5 months ago

People have stopped trusting democrats' stated intentions.

[–] chunes@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

You'll understand when you're old enough to have gone through the cycle a few dozen more times. Words are cheap.

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 40 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Just do it. The law has become Calvinball, it is time for the good guys to play accordingly.

[–] mistermodal@lemmy.ml 3 points 5 months ago

Is there a reminder bot on Lemmy? I bet you $20 in three months Pritzker will still have done absolutely nothing. Not one single agent will be arrested. This is a solid bet because one of them could ways roid out and kill someone in broad daylight, in which case it might be possible.

[–] FartMaster69@lemmy.dbzer0.com 26 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Amazingly cowardly speech.

“We aren’t doing anything today or tomorrow but oh boy just you wait!”

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 11 points 5 months ago (1 children)

“We aren’t doing anything today or tomorrow but oh boy just you wait!”

It's insane the degree to which both parties use this ploy over and over and over again, while people still eat it up every time as if this time will be different.

[–] FartMaster69@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 5 months ago (1 children)

We’re strongly considering thinking about having a meeting to decide if we should do something at some point in the future!

[–] azimir@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

But only to decide the color of the cover on the report we might write!

[–] FartMaster69@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 months ago

Whoa, let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

[–] rocci@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 5 months ago (1 children)

So he's saying maybe he'll prosecute after Trump's term is over? What a joke!

[–] Arancello@aussie.zone 0 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Remember though, the supreme court gave all presidents immunity from prosecution for crimes they committed during their presidency. So this whole statement is a joke

[–] Zron@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago

The president has immunity, no one else does.

If trump says “kill that guy” he can’t get in trouble, whoever pulls the trigger is in an entirely different situation.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 1 points 5 months ago

No one is talking about prosecuting Trump in this post.

[–] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 17 points 5 months ago

Stop lookin and do

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 7 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

Looking at maybe possibly almost going to likely fucking FUCK OFF.

WHEN ARE WE GOING TO DO JOURNALISM?

when is it enough?

I have an idea. The first main stream journalist that actually reports on the truth of US politics, I start a grassroots funding campaign to make that dude as rich as we can afford?

[–] nomy@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 months ago

How many magazine and newspaper subscriptions do you have? There's actual journalism being done and I hope you're supporting them.

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago

Can't escape state charges

[–] LoafedBurrito@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago

Arrest them, charge them, and see how the regime handles it.

Action needs to be taken NOW. These Nazi's are weak and dumb, we can take them down, but we have to do it sooner rather than later.

[–] Telodzrum@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Neat idea, Supremacy Clause goes brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr though. This doesn’t stop until the left has power at the federal level or something more dramatic takes place.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Maybe not. That only says federal laws take precedence over conflicting state laws, but executive orders are not federal laws, plus violating a law is violating a law (I imagine they’ll abuse qualified immunity though).

While I hate to continue the partisan approach to justice, that applies here too, if the next administration doesn’t support the current fascism

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 3 points 5 months ago

Qualified immunity is only protection from civil litigation. It does nothing to prevent criminal charges.
