Posting on X-formerly-Twitter over the weekend, MrBeast fretted that “when AI videos are just as good as normal videos, I wonder what that will do to YouTube and how it will impact the millions of creators currently making content for a living.”

“Scary times,” he admitted.

It won't affect you at all dipshit because your model is built on exploiting vulnerable people. The "entertainment" people derive from your fucking videos is the disgusting ways vulnerable people will humiliate themselves. If you make that shit with AI you remove the human element and that removes the "entertainment" that people are getting from it because there's no person being humiliated.

Real actual creative content will be harmed but your horrible fucking slop will be fine.

Honestly more self-aware of the type of content he produces than I thought he was capable of.

[–] Owl@hexbear.net 20 points 4 days ago (1 children)

From the snippets of interviews I've seen, it seems like his entire personality is insecurity about whether his numbers are going up fast enough. So he'd be very aware of this sort of thing.

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 10 points 4 days ago

It is the only reason he's even famous. He specifically built his channel to game the algorithm and just see how big he could build it. The actual content was secondary.

Everything I've heard about him suggests that he's a completely hollow and cynical shell of a person who compulsively tries to maximize his revenue/brand value and I've even heard he becomes distressed if he's ever not doing that. He's extremely rigorous about fiddling with engagement optimization shit as a result of that, so he has to be aware of exactly what he's doing: this isn't someone chasing their interests or dreams or hunting ego validation or trying to support a luxurious lifestyle, this is a clearly unwell man making himself into a scientifically optimized slop maximizer because he has to be doing that and can't actually enjoy things or relax ever.

[–] comrade_pibb@hexbear.net 5 points 4 days ago

I take some small comfort in the fact that he's a miserable piece of shit

[–] AssortedBiscuits@hexbear.net 1 points 4 days ago

I've even heard he becomes distressed if he's ever not doing that.

I just assume every single action he takes, even "candid" interviews where he shows apparent signs of distress, is completely calculated. Or to be more blunt, I don't actually think he's particularly distressed and probably thinks that pretending to be distressed in an interview would net him more viewers from people who are either sympathetic to him or wants to see the freak show.

I think you have to be self-aware to see the meteoric rise he’s had. While luck is certainly a factor, the reason he’s stayed at where he is, is due to a ruthless optimization of his content. That requires a bit of cold analysis.

That doesn’t make him a good person. In many ways it makes him the opposite, but I do think he thinks quite a bit about his content and the medium.

MrSlop could get replaced by the slop machine

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 19 points 5 days ago (3 children)

I don't understand why anybody would ever want to watch AI generated videos knowing that it's just fake shit unless it's intended to be viewed like an animated movie where there's some other value in the plot or story

[–] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 19 points 5 days ago (1 children)

No one interrupt me while going through the emotional and psychological journey that is Ow! My balls!

are you on the second season already? if not buckle up man you've got a ride ahead of you

Well, think about this on the aggregate. Search tells me that people watch 1 billion hours worth of content on Youtube every day. Videos with millions or tens of millions of views don't reach that point because of thoughtful engagement. Then you have to correct for videos that aim at a particular demographic, like children and teens and people who think MrBeast is doing good for the world. They might as well watch slop before falling asleep or while reheating leftovers.

It's like Google inserting Gemini into every search. Search just collages information from websites. Websites that pay google to get privileged access to search results. That money comes from ad revenue. If Gemini actually catches on, then you're not cutting the middlemen. You're consuming the entire production chain like a snake eating its own tail.

With AI entertainment there's the risk of the internet just dying off as the ecosystem that allowed people to make a living - however meagre - just disappears and moves on. The bet there is that you don't need people any more.

They might as well watch slop before falling asleep or while reheating leftovers.

god, if i did that eventually I'd start to dream of AI slop, like it would literally infect my own unwaking hallucinations with The Algorithm

I think most people dont want to, but like that they just produce this ai slop like crazy, so that it is drowning out the real stuff, while it can be also hard to tell what is ai and what is not...

Whenever I see Futurism.com, I inevitably have to think of Italian fascism

[–] unaware@hexbear.net 11 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Whenever I see futurism I think of the Mussolini buttplug

[–] Kopfrkingl@hexbear.net 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I only know of futurism as an art movement, what connection does it have to fascism?

[–] alsaaas@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 4 days ago

Italian Futurism was very much connected to Italian Fascist movement from very early on IIRC.

Marinetti (the founder of Italian Futurism) was very infatuated with fascism, only for the Italian state to later reject Futurism as they later adopted the German concept of "degenerate art" 😂

I recommend checking out the Wikipedia article on futurism and using the "search in page" function to look for the word fascism

mr. beast said SMASH THE MACHINES

I am hoping he goes out of business and becomes irrelevant before I am forced to accidentally learn who he is

[–] ClimateStalin@hexbear.net 7 points 5 days ago (3 children)

I don’t watch Mr Beast because I’m not 9 years old and his face haunts my nightmares but I would think the appeal of most of his videos would be that it’s real people doing things and not scripted? I would think AI isn’t really a risk to him and other things like him

[–] Farvana@lemmygrad.ml 14 points 5 days ago

I think the type of people who watch Mr Beast don't care enough to check. As long as it's not obvious I bet it would slide.

[–] Outdoor_Catgirl@hexbear.net 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, isn't his whole appeal "I did the biggest thing"?

[–] ClimateStalin@hexbear.net 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

“I did the biggest thing” and “Watch this person go through torture for a bunch of money”

Both of which are a lot less interesting if no real people were involved

[–] Corridor8031@lemmy.ml 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

mrbeast videos have kind of changed and now they are like different and appear rather scripted just saying.. i mean it is still real stuff but also like narrated and a bit weird

[–] Jabril@hexbear.net 3 points 4 days ago

It's all scripted, one of his former employees blew the whistle on this and all the other awful stuff he does months ago but when you have as much money as Jimmy does you can make anything go away

[–] LadyCajAsca@hexbear.net 3 points 4 days ago

Same guy that promoted them, bruh.

Learn to live with the consequences of your own actions, beast!

But besides the hypocrisy, he's unfortunately right.
