Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

“There is nowhere you can provide safe haven to people who are in this country illegally,” was Lewandowski’s response. “Not the Super Bowl and nowhere else. We will find you and apprehend you and put you in a detention facility and deport you.”

TFW the government doesn't know the difference between a citizen and undocumented migrant.

Just read the article and it was more that Bad Bunny has been avoiding playing a lot of shows in the US due to the possibility of ICE targeting his audience, and this seems to be ICE confirming that's their jam and they will do it.

Edit: but also, yes, the govt doesn't know and they are 100% just going after people that "look Mexican" in places where ICE is concentrated.

So are they going to arrest a citizen for playing music they don’t like, or are they going to arrest the illegal immigrants paying thousands of dollars to go to an event with cameras everywhere?

I don’t get what they hope to achieve except for sending a bunch of agents to the Super Bowl presumably for free.

Intimidation and maybe recruiting. Best case.

I suppose security is already on point at such an event, so all they have to do at such place, worst case, is to make a brutal display of power by getting into fights with random people.

I can imagine arresting bad Bunny or something. I mean they did deport all those South Koreans from that plant. Except one asshole.

Yep he's a US citizen born in the US.

Doesn't mean ICE can't disappear him tho.

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 5 points 7 months ago

I mean if they’re there they can’t be victimizing people elsewhere so alright.

Maybe they don't understand why he wasn't playing shows in the U.S. He was afraid that ICE might arrest attendees because most people who listen to his music speak Spanish and might look like what the administration thinks Hispanics look like.

The Superbowl is a highly televised event where tickets cost hundreds of dollars. Not too many people who don't have good lawyers can even get tickets, so he's not nearly as afraid of people being arrested there.

This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

The stupidest thing you've ever heard so far.

Will there be an "ICE cam" instead of a "kiss cam", documenting US GeStaPo behavior to the general public?

How about live doxxing? There are efforts to de-mask them using AI, after all. "The masked agent beating his victim unconscious is, according to our AI analytics, officer John P. Halton from the Ambern, Texas, office of the ICE."

[–] MadnessForTsar@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

I guess they can turned it into some kind of propaganda fuel too

[–] Doubleohdonut@lemmy.ca 15 points 7 months ago

1936 olympics anyone?

~~Adolf Hitler~~ Donald Trump oversaw an ~~Olympic Games~~ Superbowl that was staged to glorify himself and Nazi-led ~~Germany~~ USA, to paraphrase this subheading.

Intimidation, self-adulation, brownshirts. Disgusting.

[–] TemplaerDude@sh.itjust.works 14 points 7 months ago

He’s totally not racist though.

[–] Taco2112@lemmy.world 11 points 7 months ago

Right, because of all the free health care that illegal immigrants get, they’re all rich enough to attend one of the most expensive events in the country.

It’s either that or, it’s all just more posturing and another fantastic waste of money by the US government with no gains for the American people.
