Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

Man these people are so fucking brave. Really the strongest piece of foreign activism on the whole Palestinian genocide I’ve seen personally since I’ve started following it decades ago.

They're not the first, there's a long history of international solidarity there, including a past blockade-breaking boat where Israel slaughtered 10 of the crew (Mavi Marmara).

Global Sumud Flotilla says ‘unidentified vessels’ that approached the fleet with their lights off ‘have now left’ (2:46 UTC)

In a post on social media, the GSF says that “unidentified vessels” that approached their fleet earlier “have now left.”

“Unidentified vessels approached a number of boats in the Flotilla, some with their lights off,” the GSF said, adding that participants applied security protocols, in preparation for an interception.

“We continue to sail to Gaza approaching the 120 nautical mile mark (222km), near the area where previous flotillas have been intercepted and/or attacked,” the post added.

Unbelievable levels of fascist jagoff

ANSA.it - Global Flotilla in 'danger zone', approaching Gaza

The Italian government and President Sergio Mattarella had appealed to the flotilla to stop before leaving international waters to avoid putting human life in danger, calling in the activists to accept an offer from the Catholic Church for it to get the aid the boats are carrying to Gaza.

Premier Giorgia Meloni reiterated the appeal on Tuesday, arguing the flotilla initiative could put US President Donald Trump's plan for Gaza in danger.

Italian workers know what's up next.

[–] luddybuddy@hexbear.net 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I’m confused; the tracker still shows them well inside international waters. Did Italy leave prematurely, or is there a problem with the tracker, or is the border not where I think it is?

[–] trinicorn@hexbear.net 17 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I think they left at a "border" of the "conflict zone" as defined by israel. Completely made up ofc

[–] luddybuddy@hexbear.net 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

that's very frustrating. Not even having the balls to go as far as they're legally allowed to.

Israeli media reports that Israeli navy, commandos preparing to intercept Sumud (1:05 UTC)

Israeli public broadcaster Kan is reporting that Israel is planning to “take control” of the Global Sumud Flotilla, using navy commandoes as well as the Israeli navy, given “the large number of vessels” sailing with the fleet to break the blockade of Gaza.

“According to the plan, hundreds of activists will be gathered on large navy ships, and brought for questioning and deportation from Israel through the port of Ashdod,” Kan reported.

“The fact that there are about 50 vessels will not allow them all to be towed, so some of the vessels will be sunk at sea,” the report added.

It also noted that the flotilla is different to previous missions, as it includes “dozens of vessels and is accompanied by warships”, the broadcaster said.

Al Jazeera Reports (4:55 UTC)

GSF says Israeli Navy vessels intimated two lead boats

The Global Sumud Flotilla says that it has had its “first encounter” with Israeli Navy vessels which circled the fleet’s “lead boat for around six minutes” while remotely disabling its communication systems.

The Alma’s captain had to make “a strong evasive manoeuvre” to “avoid frontal collision”, the GSF said in a statement.

The military vessels then went on to do similar manoeuvres around the Sirius boat, “for a longer time until they left,” the statement said, adding that “there were reports of other military vessels throughout the night.”

The crew remain ready for similar encounters in the coming hours, the GSF said.

Al Jazeera Reports (4:05 UTC)

Israeli military vessels disrupted communications of two ships

Brazilian activist and Sumud steering committee member Thiago Avila has said than an Israeli military vessel has disrupted the communication systems of two of the flotilla’s ships.

“An Israeli military vessel just came across our boats intimidating, damaging our communication systems and doing very dangerous maneuvers circling our lead boats ALMA and SIRIUS!” Avila wrote in a post on social media.

“Despite the loss of electronic devices, no one has been injured and we KEEP ON GOING!” he added.

Wasn't Italy sending one of its warships to escort? I thought I read something like that just yesterday.. or maybe I hallucinated that

[–] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 61 points 3 months ago (3 children)

The Italian ship pressured them to abandon the aid to "Israel" and turn back, then abandoned them.

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 35 points 3 months ago (1 children)

great.. good job italy.. going back to their roots now

[–] ZWQbpkzl@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago

Italians successfully pressured to get the flotilla escorted and Georgia Melonie judo flipped it into that farce.

[–] mayakovsky@hexbear.net 23 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

Is there still a Greek ship around?

[–] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 30 points 3 months ago (2 children)

As far as I know the Greek navy never sent a ship to follow the flotilla.

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 26 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I think the Spanish sent one on the same terms as Italy, it's gone too presumably?

[–] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 37 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I'm not sure, but the Spanish ship and Italian ship were both explicitly planning not to intervene.

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 36 points 3 months ago (2 children)

so.. lib ships just for show and turn tail as soon as anything might get uncomfortable

[–] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 35 points 3 months ago

That's Spain, the Italian ship was a direct and explicit sabotage attempt. European fascists haven't changed.

[–] ziggurter@hexbear.net 20 points 3 months ago

To watch, and then pick the bodies (living or dead) out of the water.

[–] mayakovsky@hexbear.net 19 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I definitely misread a headline. It was apparently just some ships from Greece that joined in. Like yachts, not military

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 10 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

The Greek navy did scramble some ships after the flotilla neered Greek waters but didn't shadow them outside that into IW like the Italians did(until they pressured flotilla members to leave and give up the aid before entering Israel's red line of blockade, the Italians frigate had since turned around)

Given the mass protests in Italy, I wonder what the locals think of their Navy chickenshitting out?
