Putting Cartoonist on there has to be a bit

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 43 points 6 months ago

I don't think so. I never googled Luckovich but cartoon-after-cartoon shows him to be a stone-cold liberal. He believes this shit.

[–] Tiocfaidhcaisarla@hexbear.net 53 points 6 months ago (3 children)

What are they doing to fight?

Didn't Kimmel have to apologize?

Anyway, as far as artists creating change, here's a Vonnegut quote:

During the Vietnam War... every respectable artist in this country was against the war. It was like a laser beam. We were all aimed in the same direction. The power of this weapon turns out to be that of a custard pie dropped from a stepladder six feet high.

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 29 points 6 months ago

Damn that's not even terminal pie velocity

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 24 points 6 months ago

Didn't Kimmel have to apologize?

Yeap.

So unafraid they couldn't show the boob the original painting does.

[–] ExotiqueMatter@lemmygrad.ml 25 points 6 months ago

[–] xiwi@lemmy.dbzer0.com 26 points 6 months ago

I thought it was quite good for a second, then I realized it wasn't satirical

Same. Especially with the size and prominence of the political cartoonists compared to the American public grovelling at their feet.

Ok, as a Fr*ench that makes me a bit mad. AS MUCH AS OUR REVOLUTION JUST ENDED UP INSTALLING A NEW DOMINANT CLASS, AT LEAST MY PEOPLE ACTUALLY TOOK WHATEVER ACTIONS WERE NECESSARY AND GOT RESULTS, NEITHER THE DEMOCRATS NOR ANY OF THEIR SUPPORTERS CAN CLAIM EVEN A THOUSANDTH OF THAT.

[–] kristina@hexbear.net 25 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Liberals lost so much gas since the 1770s-1790s

Why is the late night host Abe Lincoln instead of Kimmel? What late night show did Lincoln host?

Also the cartoonist self-insert is very funny, that's shit that Kelly does:

[–] AernaLingus@hexbear.net 21 points 6 months ago

TIL Bill Belichick is dating a 24 year old...yikes

[–] context@hexbear.net 15 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

i don't think it's supposed to be lincoln, just the random french dude holding a musket in the original painting, but holding a microphone instead

political power grows from late night monologues

edit: wikipedia says this guy represents porky-happy

uncanny resemblance, actually

[–] ClassIsOver@hexbear.net 37 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Even in their own fantasies, "Unafraid Dems" are distinctly different from Everyday Americans

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 25 points 6 months ago

Of course they are. They are the Vanguard of the ~~Revolution~~ #Resistance!

[–] MolotovHalfEmpty@hexbear.net 23 points 6 months ago

And literally walking all over them.

[–] laziestflagellant@hexbear.net 36 points 6 months ago (1 children)

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 32 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

If the dems are unafraid why are they drawn so conservatively compared to the original?

[–] sexywheat@hexbear.net 29 points 6 months ago

Yeah come on get them nips out you coward

[–] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 31 points 6 months ago

Lib Ben Garrison but without talent

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 30 points 6 months ago

It's like he saw Kelly comics and saw that they were popular, but didn't understand the satire of them and just tried to emulate it, but with "good" art and 0 satire. Like, "Cartoonists" fighting for democracy? I didn't think it was even possible for someone to be that smug and self-satisfied while doing so little.

[–] Wheaties@hexbear.net 25 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Liberal Ben Garrison just isn't as fun

i've never seen an aesthetically appealing political cartoon what the hell is going on over there

[–] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 14 points 6 months ago (1 children)

The Dr Suess ones from WWII were pretty good, everything just went downhill from there

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 12 points 6 months ago

I'm not sure if I'd blanket-endorse those

Luckovich's cartoons are always bad but I don't share them in this comm because they don't have that slop special sauce. My man is on a roll.

Liberty Leading the People

Liberty Leading the People is a painting of the Romantic era by the French artist Eugène Delacroix, commemorating the July Revolution of 1830 that toppled King Charles X (r. 1824–1830). A bare-breasted "woman of the people" with a Phrygian cap personifying the concept and Goddess of Liberty, accompanied by a young boy brandishing a pistol in each hand, leads a group of various people forward over a barricade and the bodies of the fallen while holding aloft the flag of the French Revolution—the tricolour, which again became France's national flag after these events—in one hand, and brandishing a bayonetted musket with the other. The figure of Liberty is also viewed as a symbol of France and the French Republic known as Marianne.

The painting is sometimes wrongly thought to depict the French Revolution of 1789.

Edit

A Bluesky reply to the cartoonist

Mike: Shyly requesting permission?

Love this!!! Needs to be on billboards and banners!! Would you be willing for this to be printed on signs and banners for Oct 18th No Kings peaceful demonstrations?

With your name credited!

[–] FnordPrefect@hexbear.net 14 points 6 months ago

I can't wait for CHUDs to claim this cartoon is still a call for far-left violence since everyone was carrying guns in the original

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 22 points 6 months ago

I hate this so much in so many different directions that I lack the willpower to elaborate on right now. Suffice to say this is like the Rosetta Stone for all the ways i hate liberals

[–] kristina@hexbear.net 17 points 6 months ago
[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 16 points 6 months ago

Yeah man this is just like the storming of the Bastille

[–] 30_to_50_Feral_PAWGs@hexbear.net 15 points 6 months ago

Tag yourself, I'm Lady Liberty's freaky toes

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 15 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Guy on the lower left is a goofball.

[–] ClassIsOver@hexbear.net 14 points 6 months ago

How can you tell? Is it that he has a bunch of asparagus as a hat?

[–] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 14 points 6 months ago

Is it just me or is the "everyday Americans" on their hands and knees to literally suck off every other figure in this cartoon?
