These last 2 weeks have done quite a lot to make me think this country should just be turned into radioactive ash

Such faux outrage was expected of conservatives who love a 'legitimate' excuse to play victim more than anything else on this earth, but all the liberal networks and pundits going out of their way to metaphorically fellate an open fascist who did everything short of wearing a Klansman robe or Nazi uniform (in public)...

The crimes of this guilty land will never be purged away but with nuclear fire.

I genuinely believe that in order for the world to improve the west needs to lessen it's grip and it's influence globally (doing that itself pretty well so far) and lose the throes of resource extraction and soft power that is used to exploit the global south. The dangerous part is how much the U.S is gonna lash out as it loses it power.

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 18 points 6 months ago

Yes, the only path forward is the rest of the world moving ahead without us, it’s the best outcome.

I'm really sick of how they're putting Kirk up on a pedestal, calling him heroic or comparing him to MLK Jr. Fuck that, MLK Jr actually did things and had a demonstrable effect on civil rights. What did Kirk even do other than shout at college students and sell merch? He may have had some impact on younger people voting for Trump but I think his influence there is greatly exaggerated.

But even then that's not a demonstrable heroic thing, that's just being a campaign spokesperson. It's such a stretch to say anything nice about Charlie Kirk in life or death.

I thought the same thing, but I've been reassessing that since I listened to the recent Truanon episode on him. It turns out he was actually extremely involved and successful in right-wing organizing and tying together different factions of the alt-right with each other and with the big donors. Apparently had a direct line to Vance as well. Those of us who thought he was just another right wing youtber hack actually were underestimating his influence. Of course that's all the more reason to celebrate the death of that fascist, and any liberal putting him on a pedestal all the more disgusting.

He mostly ended up appealing to older people who viewed his as successfully agitating among younger people

[–] Assian_Candor@hexbear.net 6 points 6 months ago

He was also apparently a hugely effective organizer for absolutely demonic causes

apologies only make a bully more aggressive

[–] ClimateStalin@hexbear.net 37 points 6 months ago (3 children)

This is what’s baffling about watching all this happen, like this is a really basic concept that most adults know. You should understand that this will not save you and will only encourage them.

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 28 points 6 months ago

And its not even the first time they've done this with Trump. Libs tripped over themselves to express how horrified they were of the assassination attempt on Trump only for Trump to shit on them like always. But its just libs being libs. They're quick to shed tears for fascists, not so much for the oppressed.

[–] CleverOleg@hexbear.net 16 points 6 months ago

It’s lawyers and actuaries. They don’t understand this about bullies, they can only think in terms of probabilities and legal liability.

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 11 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

I genuinely don't understand it and can only surmise that these were the spineless kids who never once stood up for themselves, telling themselves that they just had to keep their heads down and do the homework, and in the adult world it would be different (the adult world is not different)

[–] UmbraVivi@hexbear.net 13 points 6 months ago (1 children)

He didn't really apologize fwiw, I don't know why the tweet says he did. He said something along the lines of "I can't believe people thought I was mocking the murder of a father and a husband". Which is consistent with his original comment because he did, in fact, not make fun of Kirk in any way, he was attacking Trump and the Republicans and he continued to do so in this monologue.

So he didn't "budge" but only because his original stance wasn't that cool to begin with. He's a lib who hates Trump but loves civility politics.

[–] ristoril_zip@lemmy.zip 6 points 6 months ago

Thanks for this, I watched the monologue and definitely didn't see any apology or any backtracking. I believe public facing people who do a lot of political stuff who expressed shock and outrage that Kirk was shot. Like, I really have a hard time feeling that, because of who he was and what he built and what he was pursuing. But I can definitely understand people being anti Kirk AND anti murder.

Wow what a victory against the fash.

"I can't believe Trump is making me defend Jimmy Kimmel"- Libs

Yeah, IDK, but I can believe it.

This whole thing has been such a shitshow. Its amazing the amount of mental gymnastics being done to defend the "honor/legacy" of a fucking Nazi. Never hand it to a lib for making the other wing of America's fascist party mad.

[–] wideopenarms@hexbear.net 41 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Writing it off as more outrage marketing and ignoring this forever, I've never given a shit about Kimmel before and I'll be damned if I start now.

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 12 points 6 months ago

It was 1000% a ploy they planned out to drum up his "return" starring Gavin "can you tell the bourgeois want him President" Newsom

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 39 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Dear liberals: try not to rehabilitate the unrepentant fascist goon who died deflecting from the issue murdering children in schools.

Fucking have some standards

[–] comrade_pibb@hexbear.net 10 points 6 months ago

sorry sweaty, this is letting perfect be the enemy of good (it is good when i keep making shitloads of money)

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 38 points 6 months ago (2 children)

I told my lib colleague, who criticizes the lack of free speech in non-Western countries, that we don't have free speech either; ABC (as far as I'm aware) weren't legally obligated to fire him, he simply said something that in the current climate he's unofficially not allowed to. He'll blame Trump of course, but ABC wasn't under legal obligation to fire him, they simply decided any criticism of Charlie Kirk is one of the things you're now not allowed to do.

I've pointed out to the guy in the past that there are certain things you're legally allowed to say about other heads of state, that while legally you can about our own you'll absolutely be fired for; he refused to believe it (I did say he was a lib).

Every time I tell him something, our government (whether blue Hitler or red Hitler), media and corporations always backs me up with their actions and proving me right; I'm not just eating well tonight, I eat well most nights.

[–] axont@hexbear.net 23 points 6 months ago

Furthermore Kimmel didn't even criticize Kirk. He just said republicans are taking advantage of his death, which is true. And ABC got scared because the chair of the FCC threatened to revoked their TV license. Freedom of speech

[–] principalkohoutek@hexbear.net 16 points 6 months ago

"you can say what you like because they like what you say" - parenti

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 35 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Part of the reason why I suppose I will never, ever have a position like that is that I can't imagine being that spineless.

Jimmy was 100% in the right here and ABC was 100% wrong, and what's more there is no universe in which someone like Kimmel is truly blacklisted from entertainment, he's just too valuable. MFer should have gone on TV, said in no uncertain terms that Kirk was a monster who directly contributed to the culture of gun violence that resulted in his own death, did his interview with Gavin Newsome and then when he got fired for real after the broadcast he could have taken over the Daily Show or something.

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 13 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Is Kimmel too valuable? Do people even watch his show? I felt like the backlash was more against the fact that anyone was being fired rather than Kimmel in particular.

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 13 points 6 months ago

I think he's valuable enough to land another gig if he loses the late show, even if the zenith of his career is behind him

[–] SmithrunHills@hexbear.net 32 points 6 months ago

But doing blackface and wanting to commit genocide against the Chinese is perfectly fine okay blob-no-thoughts
