Seems to be the only Bethesda game that Steam flagged for the review bomb.

EDIT: Check the comments for the tweet that sparked the stupid outrage. A screenshot from the newest Indiana Jones game.

Wait till they find out that in Wolfenstein you get to kill tons of Charlie Kirk's in fun ways and celebrate each one of them with achievements and rewards ❤️

Kinda funny that Wolfenstein games didn't receive as many of these reviews as Doom Eternal. There's only 10 or so.

From Doom Eternal:

Charlie Kirk was not a fascist. Charlie Kirk was a father, a wonderful husband, and someone who wanted the best for everyone! When you want to get rid of someone, you accuse them of being a fascist! No one has betrayed this society more than you have!

[–] Visstix@lemmy.world 116 points 1 month ago

I replied to that one lol

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 43 points 1 month ago (4 children)

Wanted the best for everyone but Paul Pelosi, women, minorities…

I always wonder what they think 'fascist' means that 'good husband, father' would negate that.

[–] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 12 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I bet he loved dogs too. Could a fascist love dogs?? I don't think so.

Who's is you? Has this game betrayed this country? So confused.

[–] olbaidiablo@lemmy.ca 17 points 1 month ago (3 children)

He wanted what was best for everyone. Except: minorities, women, poor people, the homeless...

[–] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 1 month ago

He had children, like a lot of horrible people do.

Hitler was a father, a husband and someone who wanted the best for Germany.

There are reasons to hate Bethesda but this isn't one of them

[–] latenightnoir@lemmy.blahaj.zone 83 points 1 month ago (1 children)

"I do not support death cults" must be the epitome of clueless irony.

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 21 points 1 month ago

Kirk is part of an apocalyptic former death cult (cult status lost due to population size).

[–] ashenone@lemmy.ml 57 points 1 month ago

Somewhere in hell doom slayer is punching the inside of Charlie Kirk's skull

[–] Rakonat@lemmy.world 56 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Do these fuckers not realize doomguy canonically killed nazies too?

[–] hayvan@feddit.nl 15 points 1 month ago

It wasn't the Doomguy, but his grandpa I think. Unless I missed some lore updates in the meantime.

[–] bytesonbike@discuss.online 50 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Why? Is there a Charlie Kirk mod where you get to press X to give him the finger while he's in the Demon Realm for his hateful spewing?

[–] Dragonstaff@leminal.space 40 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Right-wingers are mad that Bethesda posted a picture of a cat on the internet. Indian Jones pets it and says "You don't like these fascists, do you."

Hit dogs started hollerin.

[–] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago

wow those people are desperate to be victims.

[–] killingspark@feddit.org 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Is Indian Jones the Bollywood Version that I didn't know I wanted until this moment?

[–] Dragonstaff@leminal.space 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The typo stays to keep the dream alive.

[–] phx@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

A Bollywood-style IJ movie would actually be pretty awesome. Wouldn't be that hard to beat Crystal Skull, and Ford - though a great actor in his prime - has mostly been running on name-power these days.

Maybe they can have an Indian version where a certain political cult is trying to sacrifice people

"Well heck, the guy stayed alive an the heard was still beatin when they ripped it out in the YouTube video. Jed, you sure we got the words right?"

[–] LordOfLocksley@lemmy.world 44 points 1 month ago (4 children)

"No one deserved what you suffered"... well I have some good news for you, he didn't suffer a bit. He was unconscious and then dead before anyone could get to him

[–] shani66@ani.social 7 points 1 month ago

That's really the worst news to come out of this whole event. Hopefully the folks down in naraka let him know full well what happened and why he's there.

Fascists.

We know fascists are idiots, but we have to call them by the praxis they act on, lest we slip to their tactics.

[–] Cassa@lemmy.blahaj.zone 36 points 1 month ago (3 children)

anybody know what the tweet said?

[–] Metostopholes@midwest.social 138 points 1 month ago (4 children)

It was a clip from the upcoming DLC for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Indy sees a cat, and says “You don’t care much about these Fascists, do you?”

Of course insane people assumed this was about Charlie Kirk.

[–] skisnow@lemmy.ca 90 points 1 month ago

Major “if the shoe fits” moment there

[–] germanatlas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 1 month ago

I can’t believe George Lucas and Steven Spielberg would make such an Anti-FreezePeach and Anti-Trump character /s

I think it's this one. As others said, the picture is Indy talking to the cat, saying "You don't care much about these Fascists, do you?" - https://www.thegamer.com/bethesda-indiana-jones-and-the-great-circle-charlie-kirk-tweet-deleted/

[–] SuperDuperKitten@lemmy.blahaj.zone 84 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Still baffles me that is the same crowd that would scream "snowflakes" and do this sort of mental gymnastic LMAO

[–] AntiBullyRanger@ani.social 41 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

That's how fascists operate. Learn their DisVic, learn RMVP.

[–] RunJun@lemmy.dbzer0.com 32 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The quartering popping up for a post mocking fascists. So weird

It’s a trailer with one clip of Indy saying this. Them taking offense to this says far more about them than it does about Bethesda or Indiana Jones.

It was a screenshot from the Indiana Jones game of Indy petting a cat saying "You don't care much for these fascists, do you?" They captioned the screenshot with "good kitty".

[–] lennee@lemmy.world 34 points 1 month ago (2 children)

well tbf bethesda did fuck up by deleting it therefore implying they actually have a point even though they definitely dont

[–] Pika@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

yea but that's also PR 101, something causing bad PR? delete it. It would have been worse leaving it up as well because that shows a "we know that people can see a potential connection and we don't care and by not deleting it we agree with the connection"

Bethesda was in a Lose Lose here because regardless of their action, the crowd that was pissed about this would have been pissed, because in their eyes the connection is already solid.

Damned if you do, Damned if you don't

[–] shani66@ani.social 9 points 1 month ago (2 children)

It's pr 101 because any advanced class would tell you to keep it up anyway. If they take it down the validate the backlash. If they keep it up they can either undermine the backlash or ride it higher if there are less nazis than there are normal people. There is also a problem with taking it down: the nazis are kinda correct that Bethesda is anti nazi, Indiana Jones and Wolfenstein? Yeah, they demonstrably have no love for their ilk and cowering away from that won't help them.

Steam will flag this as a point of off topic reviews, and by default will be filtered out of affecting the review score that users see.

Personally, I like to look at these points of off topic reviews to see if a company has done some stupid shit that I want to avoid them for (like the recent fiasco with gearbox and the mandatory spyware, or everything ea has ever done ever). Every once in a while though, I get to laugh that fascists are mad.

[–] Th3D3k0y@lemmy.world 30 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I don't even know which setting I am using for this

[–] Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 1 month ago

It's the default. Steam excludes reviews from languages you don't speak, and "periods of off-topic review activity", by default.

I hope those people get a ban from reviewing games or something. I know it's difficult for some people to imagine, but most of us just want to know about the damn game.

[–] LiveLM@lemmy.zip 42 points 1 month ago (2 children)

They won't get banned but Steam will likely mark this wave as "Off-topic review activity". When this happens you can toggle visibility of these reviews.

[–] JadenSmith@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 month ago

Thanks I wasn't fully aware of this action, and it seems better for folks who want to game to escape. I'll be checking this setting shortly.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 month ago

One of Steam's better recent innovations

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 18 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I reported some of those as "political argument that is unrelated to the game, developer or publisher", I don't think anything will happen tho

[–] bytesonbike@discuss.online 8 points 1 month ago

It doesn't happen immediately but it does happen.

A few years ago, there was a wave of dumbfucks who would visit cosy games and spam "Woke" and "DEI" over and over in the forums/reviews. I don't even see it anymore.

Going to bet the edge lords got Shadow banned or something.

I hear you but I disagree, I absolutely support the right to use means like reviews to boycott companies. It's just being done for all the wrong reasons here
