Well China just arrested 900 billion protesters but the surveillance crackdown is so intense there's no record of it. It's so intense that the protesters don't even know they're in custody.

The fact that you even know about this in the UK this is proof we're free

it is so fucking insane how since Vietnam any anti war thought is violently suppressed. Like fuck, just in my lifetime ive now seen it several times. Everytime its "HOW DARE YOU BE AGAINST DEAD INNOCENT CIVILIANS"

I remember getting into an argument about the myth of Vietnam war vets getting spit on with my lib family members once. That shit is engrained deep.

I have had to explain to two separate people this year that POW/MIA was entirely made up to get people to vote for Nixon. Thankfully that brainworm is easier to kill now (it's been 60 years, Vietnam is on good terms with the US, where exactly are they supposed to be, etc).

Where can I learn more about this?

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Can't remember the source I found at the time, but even libs are onboard so it's not that hard to find stuff. Here's one article, though it's not especially scholarly.

Thanks, comrade

I've found the fastest way to dispell this is point out the law passed requiring these flags to be flown over post offices is less than a decade old.

Both the UK and US profit from war so while extremely sad and infuriating it’s unfortunately not surprising.

maybe my use of "since" was incorrect there, but i knew that. "starting with" would have been the correct grammar perhaps. though even when i typed "vietnam" i knew there was a chance a korea/WW2/WW1 anti war protester was suppressed. Those wars were much more popular(maybe not Korea as much) so those stories as well known.

State security forces disappear hundreds in crackdown on humanitarian dissent

[–] LargeAdultRedBook@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I need to create a llamafile for an LLM that rewrites headlines about western countries as if they were about China.

Then make it a bot here.

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago

That would actually be excellent

Any officer arresting people protesting against the genocide is complicit in the murder of kids in gaza

[–] LargeAdultRedBook@hexbear.net 22 points 1 week ago

Complicit? More like directly supporting.

900 people to put in non-existent prison spaces.

[–] Staines@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Actually they cleared out an entire prison by via transfer and early release just to make sure they could lock up these dangerous terrorists.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago

Nah. They overreached. Putting 1000 people through the courts simultaneously for this is going to be mind boggling bad for the system. They couldn't even arrest everyone, they were ferrying people back and forwards to custody stations into the wee hours of the morning because the cops didn't have enough drivers. The courts can't cope with this shit they're already backlogged.

None of the cops were happy about doing these arrests. Everyone in the court system will not be either. The whole thing is going to drag like hell and cause disgruntled people at every point along the way.

prompting debates about free speech

Curious, the fascists whining about freeze peach are okay with this one

[–] SuperNovaCouchGuy2@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago

Keep in mind that during ww2 germany was an imperialist capitalist power that did the same type of genocidal settler colonialism that every single other fucking european capitalist power did in brown countries, including shitain, who only mobilized to oppose germany because their colonies and home front were in danger, not because of any fundental ideological difference really.

Point being that the west never stood against "fascism" in any way shape or form, and western capitalist nations are, on a high level, no different to nazi germany, just that they genocide nonwhite people in faraway lands instead of in europe.

"prompting debates on freedom of speech in the UKKK"

There is no debate, it doesn't exist.

Should have added arrested for holding a sign. To drive the point
