Based on the shoulder patch, they're part of the {中|Zhōng}{国|guó}{民|Mín}{兵|bīng} (Militia of China)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Militia_(China)

edit: looks like 民兵方队 may be another helpful keyword to search for (I think it refers specifically to them marching in formation)

8,000,000 members, that's wild

Damn.

How do ladies in commie army uniforms always look so bloody awesome!?

I aspire to wear that much red every day and look that good in it.

[–] AssortedBiscuits@hexbear.net 11 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Small domino: Communist ideology stressing that women hold up half the sky and stopping at nothing until the complete dismantlement of women oppression by the hands of patriarchy

Large domino: Women soldiers marching in stylish uniforms

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 2 points 4 weeks ago

Mmm. Can I just say I like both of those things very much?

I mean, yes, I think the ladies look awesome in their uniforms, and in general I absolutely have a thing for a woman in uniform, military or otherwise, but I am also kinda jealous of a society that does its absolute best to ensure complete gender equality, and I'm jealous of anyone who can pull off an outfit that is made up of that much extremely bright and bold red. It almost looks like a Cold War era Western parody of a commie military/party uniform, and I wish I looked that good in that much red.

thank you for putting pinyin together with the {汉|hàn}{字|zì}

[–] TrustedFeline@hexbear.net 4 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Neat! I didn't notice. Is that done with markup or some unicode wizardry?

Markdown! This

{习|Xí}{近|Jìn}{平|píng}

becomes

{习|Xí}{近|Jìn}{平|píng}

Also, in terms of structure/rendering, this is achieved with the <ruby> tag added in HTML5:

<ruby>习<rt>Xí</rt></ruby>
<ruby>近<rt>Jìn</rt></ruby>
<ruby>平<rt>píng</rt></ruby>

If China had a foreign legion I would have signed up years ago. Iirc most of the time their military is used for works projects and diaster relief, stuff I already want to do

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 19 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

If they had one, I'd know.

My dad's always trying to find out if things like that exist in any form in any socialist state. Not for himself, for me. He just wants to "send the commie away to her comrades". He works in a highly regulated field and fears his kid being a known communist might subject him to undue scrutiny. Whether I live with him or not. He thinks if I'm not even in the country, then he'll be safe.

If there was any way for Western comrades to work directly for a socialist government somewhere, that'd require you to be in that country to do said work, I would probably know of that program and how to qualify. Because my dad would have tried to find a way to sign a teenager up for it when I was in high school.

finally, a contender to the DPRK's sick hat game

[–] built_on_hope@hexbear.net 23 points 4 weeks ago

During the broadcast the announcer said they provided backup support and logistics I think? They mentioned that in the war against Japanese aggression many women rose to take up arms

[–] Cat_Daddy@hexbear.net 20 points 4 weeks ago

The hats are what grabbed me, too, I definitely want one

[–] prole@hexbear.net 18 points 4 weeks ago

I want one of the hats, but I cannot find any replicas

In the "New Western China Annexed Providences" these are the Dallas Cheerleaders.

[–] axont@hexbear.net 9 points 4 weeks ago

This is China's equivalent of Army reserves, right? In that I think they're civilians without formal military rank who would presumably get activated in situations where they're needed.

[–] SchillMenaker@hexbear.net 6 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I might have to sign up for the army for an opportunity to immediately surrender to the stone cold baddie division

[–] SchillMenaker@hexbear.net 3 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

That's smart, I'll need to be well hydrated

[–] carpoftruth@hexbear.net 4 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

This kind of "omg a feeeemale, better hornypost" crap actually sucks and isn't funny

[–] SchillMenaker@hexbear.net 2 points 4 weeks ago

Yes. Thank you.
