There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Why can't any of these losers take a page out of Luigi's book for once and kill someone who actually deserves it?

These people are misanthropes not revolutionaries, they just want to sow misery

America runs on [child sacrifice]

[–] very_poggers_gay@hexbear.net 37 points 4 days ago

a lot of these mass shooters are self-hating social darwinists. their ideology would never drive them to kill a CEO or sitting politician

Bifo wrote about this in his book "Heroes". IIRC, he suggested that these people and their actions are the products of a society where 'survival of the fittest' truisms are the norm; where violence and force are normalized and celebrated; and where people are totally lienated and deprived connection, identity, fulfillment, etc.

These conditions inform a rotten worldview of someone who hates and is hated by society, and these acts can be seen as a reactionary kind of lashing out (i.e., retaliation, taking power back) or a revolutionary 'culling of the weak' (i.e., killing more undesirables, gaining status in their fascist cults)

officials at catholic institutions are more likely to deserve it than a random person on the street, but you gotta do some leg work to figure out which ones.

Everyone above parish head by default, those below need rehabilitation trial.

‘No Way To Prevent This,’ Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens

Thoughts and prayers until the next school shooting occurs and then some more of that I guess.

[–] Commie_Chameleon@hexbear.net 56 points 4 days ago (3 children)

School’s been in session for what, not even a month? Can’t wait to hear about how the police had already been aware of the shooter and did nothing.

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 38 points 4 days ago

“He’s been on our radar”

This could actually be a context where the 12 might be somewhat well-equipped. If we’re not doing anything because “muh freedumz”, then just target these people with warning signs to prevent crime. Even if you’re just talking them out of it. There, no gun laws needed.

I never want to hear shit about “muh birthrates” when this happens all the time and the powers that be shrug their shoulders and say “tee hee, ohhhhhh well!”

School’s been in session for what, not even a month?

About two days, actually

(depends on the school of course)

[–] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 13 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

guarantee you there was a shooting every day of the last month too, you just didn't hear about any of them till now

[–] tane@lemy.lol 49 points 4 days ago

I am once again asking the inhuman freaks who do this shit to direct it towards the seemingly unending list of people who deserve it instead of children

[–] built_on_hope@hexbear.net 50 points 4 days ago

Failure of a country tbh

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 50 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Senseless shit in a barbaric country.

porky-scared-flipped It's not senseless! Has no one told you the alternative to barbarism is SOCIALISM?!?

You wanna know a crazy statistic? Only 0.2% of gun deaths occur on school grounds in the US. That's not meant to minimize this problem. Just to show how bad everything else is too. 58% are suicides, 38% are homicides, 3% other (police shootings and accidents). https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2025/03/05/what-the-data-says-about-gun-deaths-in-the-us/

I often wonder why Switzerland doesn't have this issue compared to the US. The US has so much untreated mental illness and trauma, lack of social cohesion, economic disparity, racial disparity.

Switzerland has across the board higher safety, training, safe-storage requirements. Guns and ammo must be kept in separate locked containers. The Swiss don't keep guns for self defense. Guns are only for military duties and sporting purposes. The Swiss don't keep that thang on em. A dispute isn't going to escalate into a shooting because a Swiss is packing.

Roughly 42% to 52% of U.S. households own at least one gun. In Switzerland, historical data from 2004-2005 indicated that approximately 28.6% of households owned firearms. That number might be higher with a growing interest in shooting sports particularly among women. There's also growing concern since Covid and the war in Ukraine. https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/business/how-switzerland-combines-a-passion-for-guns-with-safety/49115108

IMO the difference between USA and Switzerland here is the poisonous idea of American Individualism.

There is a mentality in the US that you are the only one truly looking out for yourself and your immediate family, so if you're going somewhere you perceive as dangerous, or even simply "needing order" - which is everywhere outside your "castle" according to Fox News - you might be inclined to bring your weapon and make sure everyone knows you are willing to assert your safety and independence above all else. Endemic toxic masculinity ensures that any slight against you, if not remedied and apologized for immediately, results in peacocking and chest-thumping that escalates the situation and can easily become deadly.

I haven't spent very much time in Switzerland specifically, but my overall experience as a USAian in Western Europe is that there is a much more pervasive understanding of societal good and collectivism (small C, not calling on any particular philosophy/ideology) that is almost entirely absent here in the states.

[–] Vingst@hexbear.net 3 points 3 days ago

Yeah I agree. The more info that comes out about this, it looks like there's a crazy nihilism/trolling thing going on. They were a part of those nihilist internet communities where they groom and egg each other on.

[–] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 34 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Bruh how is there a school shooting already, it's not even September‽

[–] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 25 points 4 days ago

school calendar is per-state

Remember. Britons are unironically looking at this with a big grin on their face and saying “Yes PLEASE! We’ll have what America is having!”

Guns aren't entirely hard to get in the UK including a recent case where a teenager family annihilatior who attemptwd a dutyer mass shooting also used the equivalent of the gun show loophole to get a shotgun

As a trans anti-zionist here in Minnesota, this is gonna suck.

Is it so hard to not shoot up a school? Like, even if you suffered at the hands of a school or church, why would you ever target children?

Jfc I hate being american.

[–] dragongloss@hexbear.net 26 points 4 days ago

Can't wait for the National Guard to be deployed to Minneapolis and terrorize my neighbors. I am so fucking tired of this shit. catgirl-flop

[–] LadyButterfly@reddthat.com 28 points 4 days ago (2 children)

There's known indicators of people who commit mass shootings. People don't get up and randomly decide to shoot countless people, they plan it and show indicators.

Why aren't we training relevant agencies on this? Doing PSAs? It's not hard!

[–] FloridaBoi@hexbear.net 25 points 4 days ago

The solution is simpler than flawed profiling techniques

[–] nothx@hexbear.net 19 points 4 days ago

Because we as a society don’t actually care as much as you would think.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 25 points 4 days ago

pray harder?

[–] Erika3sis@hexbear.net 26 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Literally as I was in the middle of translating a fucking fluff piece about a Deaf Norwegian teaching Will Smith to fingerspell his initials, the VG website showed a BREAKING NEWS notification for this shit, it's neverendinggggg

Whyyyyyy are there so many school shootings across the Atlanticcccc k-pain

[–] FloridaBoi@hexbear.net 10 points 4 days ago

Not that this is related to this event but at some point, as soon as it is implicated, I wonder when they’re gonna start blaming ChatGPT

[–] CommCat@hexbear.net 24 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (3 children)

it appears the shooter is trans

edit: posted a manifesto youtube video, has white letters written on their guns/ammo, similar to Trentan (NZ mosque shooter), names of other mass shooters written, but there is also "Israel must fall" written. Fuck, the right/Zionist is gonna have a field day with this one.

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 21 points 4 days ago (1 children)

it appears the shooter is trans

Where did you see this?

[–] rootsbreadandmakka@hexbear.net 17 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It’s all over Twitter as you can imagine. Completely unverified, there’s been no official identification at this point.

[–] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Group chats are talking about it

[–] rootsbreadandmakka@hexbear.net 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I think it’s been confirmed at this point?

[–] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 3 points 4 days ago

Not feeling great friend

[–] darkcalling@hexbear.net 18 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The reactionaries are spouting it. True or not the damage is being done and they'll continue pushing that angle as school shootings spark cries for gun control and this gives them an excellent chance to do an uno reverse and cry for cracking down on trans people and decrying how it's propaganda that turns perfectly straight kids gay and trans and satanic (because Catholics targeted), shifting the blame from guns, from an alienated, hyper-individualistic, barbaric, consumption culture with easy access to weapons to "woke trans".

Looks like they were also Russian, maybe immigrant given their manifesto was posted in Russian so they can talk up anti-immigrant talking points and the necessity of ICE, add on the anti-zionist points and this is a a triple whammy for them in shifting blame and casting immigrants, trans people, and anti-zionists as violent criminal terrorists. Add on the bonus that it was a Catholic school targeted and they'll keep harping on this because Christians LOVE feeling persecuted from a distance and pushing the idea of how their victims are so mean and hurtful to them.

[–] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 7 points 4 days ago

Their Russian is pretty garbled, so not a native speaker.

[–] Rom@hexbear.net 17 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Source?

edit: looks like local news is reporting it.

Court documents show that when she was 17, Westman applied in Dakota County to change her birth name from Robert to Robin. That request was granted in January of 2020.

https://www.kare11.com/article/news/local/shooter-identified-in-minneapolis-catholic-school-shooting/89-bafd06bc-fafe-4187-ae44-64ed0b2fd138

[–] Jew@hexbear.net 16 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The only thing I have seen is that the shooter changed their name from Robert to Robin and they have long hair, but nothing about them being trans is being reported yet.

[–] dragongloss@hexbear.net 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Robin isn't even an exclusively feminine name either (E.G. Robin Williams), that's the only evidence available that the shooter is allegedly trans?

[–] darkcalling@hexbear.net 9 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Robert is a masculine name generally speaking and one given to AMAB types generally speaking. Yet the news refers to the shooter as she that's something in support of this idea unfortunately along with the fact pronouns are being avoided in some of the news reporting and the name change.

I've since found this:

The shooter’s mother also applied to change her child’s name from Robert to Robin in Dakota County in 2019, according to court documents obtained by FOX 9. According to the name change filing, Westman identified "as a female and wants her name to reflect that identification."

Not the source of that text but another source (ABC): https://archive.is/YXmhD

Someone better at sifting through court records can maybe find this though it looks like unless it was digitized by a third party you likely need to go to the records place in person or at the very least submit an online form and pay a fee to get this kind of info.

This is pretty bad. This trans person had some parental support to change their name from their mother as a minor and went on to kill people, we can't say what else happened in their life or how much support they really had but the reactionaries will harp on that fact until time ends as proof that embracing trans kids identities leads to violence when of course evidence shows not supporting trans kids leads to suicides (what reactionaries would prefer of course). This, the other shooting at a religious school in Kentucky by a trans-man a few years back, they'll say its a part of "discrimination" and violence against Christians and drive them into an even further frothing frenzy to criminalize trans people, classify being trans as a mental illness and harp on denying mentally ill people guns as the solution. And that's part of the whole "woke pink-hairs are mentally ill" push to put such people in camps (to be slaves doing farm-work deported migrants used to do and/or illusory re-shoring) and not just deny them guns for self-defense. UGH.

I'm told this sort of thing is worth it to be able to have the tools to stand up to a tyrannical government.

That's awful
