Some people still believes tariff is good for them.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Everyone’s talking about it 🫲🍊🫱

[–] MangioneDontMiss@lemmy.ca 51 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It's not just causing inflation, it's causing the worst unemployment rate since covid. Congratulations you fucking asshole your plan to destroy the country is working really fuckin well.

[–] drspawndisaster@sh.itjust.works 31 points 2 days ago

The worst unemployment rates since, coincidentally, his last presidency.

[–] Tryenjer@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

There's no America anymore, it's Trumpistan now.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 2 points 16 hours ago

It's MAGA-occupied America.

[–] Novamdomum@fedia.io 90 points 2 days ago (7 children)

So do Americans (edit: who support Trump) understand that they are the ones paying the tariffs? When Trump tells them how many billions he's collected in tariffs do they realise it's their money he's collected? I keep wondering if I missed something...

[–] Cort@lemmy.world 47 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The people who didn't vote for him certainly know. It's the same tactic he used with "build a wall and make Mexico pay for it". The rubes that voted for him either don't care, or aren't intelligent enough to realize how much this hurts them.

[–] regedit@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

Woah, hold on. Pump the brakes. He diverted federal funds aimed at improving living and childcare buildings on a military installation for those funds, in the end!

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 26 points 2 days ago

Based on my neighborhood local Facebook group, no they are still a bunch of idiots.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 days ago

The dumb ones don't, so at least a third of Americans think they won't pay a penny more for anything tarrifed.

They are so insanely stupid.

[–] OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Yes, many Americans do understand this. But many others do not, and those are the ones in charge now. We don’t want them to be in charge but there’s not much we can do about that at the moment.

I don’t understand why non-Americans assume we’re all as stupid as the trumpers.

We are not a hive mind.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 16 hours ago

But many others do not, and those are the ones in charge now.

It's not a question of understanding. It's a question of what they choose to tell the rubes.

there’s not much we can do about that at the moment

There's a lot we could be doing, but we're not.

[–] Novamdomum@fedia.io 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You're right. When I said "do Americans understand" I meant "do Americans who support Trump understand" I should have been clearer.

It’s all good, I’m just a bit of a bitch when it comes to American stereotypes, since I fit absolutely none of them. I’m not fat or stupid or loud or rude, I love to read, I hate guns, I hate pickup trucks & fossil fuels, I love trying international foods, I’m humble… (this current comment notwithstanding)

People like me feel like we’re surrounded by idiots, and the idiots are in charge, and it’s terrifying. Then the idiots (trumpers) tell us to leave if we don’t like it here, and yet why the fuck should we? They’re the ones ruining everything.

Anyway - yeah we do know these tariffs are a tax on us. Personally, I wouldn’t mind a tariff on some things - if the proceeds went to strengthen social programs to protect & help those affected by the loss of jobs to foreign manufacturers. But the trump regime is pocketing this tariff money and telling the common people to suck it up.

The cult members will be the very last to figure it out/admit it to themselves.

[–] Resedit@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No matter how many times you explain it, they just don’t process it.

He’s so dumb, he doesn’t even know how tariffs work, good job America electing an absolute dumbass who couldn’t even pass a civics class if he had to!

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 17 hours ago

He might know, or he might not. He's a con artist. Even if he does know, he'll lie.

[–] MrMcGasion@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Problem is that even if he choked on his burger and coke at lunch, and had dinner with the devil, neither of the next two in line could pass a civics class either.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Nah, Vance could pass, he literally has a law degree from Yale and had to earn his college tuition in the Marines (as a journalist/propagandist).

Civics knowledge isn't the same thing as ethical behavior.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 17 hours ago

It doesn't take much intelligence to be a journalist ofr the military. That's a fortunate-son posting for the most part.

Yale, sure. He's booksmart, and as his subsequent career has shown, he knows what to kiss and when.

[–] Sconrad122@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If you refuse to answer the questions correctly because acknowledging facts about our system of government would undermine your weak justifications for your fascist behavior, the fact that you actually knew the correct answer deep down doesn't change your score

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Bro, you're right, but Vance doesn't mind lying for personal advantage

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

He's a hyper capitalist that doesn't understand the core premise of capitalism.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

the core premise of capitalism

"Lie, cheat and grab what you can without getting caught"? He certainly seems to understand that.

[–] snekerpimp@lemmy.world 89 points 2 days ago

“Lying fraudster lies to defraud the American people” FIFY

[–] Geobloke@aussie.zone 9 points 2 days ago

If the economy is good, the accepted wisdom is interest rates go up

You idiot, you should have said "I told you so,"when the jobs report came out bad and added that the "high interest rates were killing jobs."

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 50 points 2 days ago (1 children)

A large portion of Americans are dumb enough that they will believe him.

[–] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 62 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I just saw an article on fox business about Arizona Tea raising their prices due to aluminum tariffs, filled with comments calling the company "liberal puppets", claiming they are price gouging and calling for the government to start regulating the prices for everything.

Maga are fully prepared to say every company is anti-trump and raising prices to spite great leader. Gonna be a wild ride.

[–] TipRing@lemmy.world 63 points 2 days ago (4 children)

It's hilarious that they will call liberals socialists while they themselves are advocating for price controls.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 16 hours ago

MAGA are nationalist socialists.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 32 points 2 days ago

They don’t know what those words mean. They think it means anti Christian authoritarianism that also lets lazy people not work.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 16 points 2 days ago

They will argue literally whatever helps them "win" an argument, even if it's the exact opposite of what they just argued.

Rules are for others, "winning" is the only thing that matters to fascists and their bootlickers.

Then why the fuck do you argue against raising taxes on corporations? Why do tax breaks mean "more jobs, more growth" but somehow a literal tax on corporations in the form of tarrifs don't affect the economy?

[–] st3ph3n@midwest.social 34 points 2 days ago (2 children)

That's not how any of this works, you dumb fuck.

There are two options. Companies raise prices, or companies reduce earnings.

[–] Devadander@lemmy.world 27 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And only one the shareholders will allow

There's also companies fire a whole bunch of Americans then outsource even more jobs.

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 7 points 2 days ago

He us right. Then companies make their products cost go up to compensate. Nobody works for free. Much less Americans!

[–] Deflated0ne@lemmy.world 32 points 2 days ago (1 children)

He's still wrong. He's still lying.

[–] Hotzilla@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

He is probably not lying, he is just that fucking stupid.

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 19 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

ah the joys of the free market where the political leader tells free market companies where their prices should be set

[–] Linktank@lemmy.today 16 points 2 days ago

Trump and anybody who listens to him continues to be an idiot. More at 11.

[–] RattlerSix@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Such a dumb argument. Now only is it simply untrue, it wouldn't matter if it were true. If Chinese companies paid tariffs, their prices would go up and cause inflation. Instead the importer pays, raising prices and causing inflation.

Of course the consumer is the actual end payer in both scenarios.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

That's because dumb dumb dementia donnie probably doesn't even understand how tariffs work.
