No law matters when no one will stand up and enforce it.

Once again, there is no emergency. It's the same tactic that he keeps on using. How is there no requirement to provide evidence of an emergency?

[–] AmbitiousProcess@piefed.social 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Because the assumption is that the president won't be a fucking dumbass, and will need to utilize the emergency powers immediately, because of an actual imminent threat they can't wait around for approval for.

Sure, and that's why he gets the initial 48 hours, as in the DC case in particular. But that's enough time for Congress to meet and decide whether or not there is actually an emergency. Or it should be.

congress and the courts are captured so there is no power balance

people need to stop acting surprised

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 2 points 12 hours ago

I know that all too well, hence my anger.

You say that like this administration gives a shit about the law.

[–] TuffNutzes@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

You spelled criminal regime wrong.

[–] MisterOwl@lemmy.world 31 points 1 day ago

The law only matters if there are those willing to enforce it. We all know that's no longer the case.

The supreme court has made TACO a king. Now we get to see the results.

The CONSTITUTION says he can't do that.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

As if he would care about the constitution while putting the military in place for his coup.

Are you, are you, coming to the tree? Strung up a man, say he murdered three. Strange things have happened here no stranger would it be If we met, at midnight, in the hanging tree.

Are you, are you, coming to the tree? Where a dead man called out for his love to flee. Strange things did happen here no stranger would it be if we met, at midnight, in the hanging tree

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

well this is was meant as a distraction of the epstein files which blew up more than he could handle, which was itself a distraction from the protests/ BBB cuts. hes doing whatever he cans to bury the bbb, and epstein files in a mountain of outrage shit.

[–] mfed1122@discuss.tchncs.de 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Idk. This particular thing is bad enough that I'm not sure it's meant to be a distraction. Trump is up to other actually bad things besides distracting from the files. Like, at this point I feel like if Trump went on live TV and declared himself dictator for life people would be like "nice try distracting us from the Epstein files!". At some point he ain't distracting, he's just getting back to his main tasks

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 3 points 22 hours ago

That's because the majority of Americans think that he is not getting away with and or implementing the distractions. They think everything will get tied up in courts and nothing bad will happen. They have gotten too used to a normal functioning society and don't believe the klaxon alarms going off everywhere right now.
