The Incredibles is the best Fantastic 4 movie by a longshot

[–] 9to5@hexbear.net 42 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Superman wasnt just good. It was woke. isaac-pog

[–] Goblinmancer@hexbear.net 13 points 3 weeks ago

Fantastic four is ultimately fine (good visuals and acting) but superman just feels more human. No scene in fantastic four hits as hard as that boravia scene.

Also the fantastic four kinda basically runs their own world rubs me in the wrong way.

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 42 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

They keep trying Fantastic 4

Have they succeeded once?

Just fucking let it die.

I get a traditional family white 60s america vibe from Fantastic Four and I suspect they keep trying to push them because they think this family can appeal to chuds.

I know very little beyond them being stretchy rocky flamey invisible so I could be way off base but particularly in the Marvel Rivals community there's weird behaviour about the wife and husband that made me uncomfortable when I was dipping my toe into that game.

Tangentially related but every woman's body type in Marvel is literally the fucking same and it irks me, not to mention like 70% of their women are blonde

[–] egs81t@lemmygrad.ml 14 points 3 weeks ago

Well... They just can't thing of anything new, they will restart this bullshit every few years until it will click with the audience. Just slop after slop.

[–] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 12 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

the 1960s cartoon is fun to laugh at, idk if it's "good"

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 12 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

[–] Mindfury@hexbear.net 25 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

[–] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 10 points 3 weeks ago

[–] PaulSmackage@hexbear.net 5 points 3 weeks ago

[–] homhom9000@hexbear.net 6 points 3 weeks ago

High on my list

[–] MisanthropiCynic@lemmy.today 5 points 3 weeks ago

I was planning on going this afternoon just because it’s NEON and their movies don’t usually come to my local theater, and are gone super fast (Cuckoo was only here from Fri-Wed of one week).

Has anybody seen it? Why is it doing so badly?

[–] Speaker@hexbear.net 30 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

They're a boring team, and they're at the sour spot between "solo protagonist" (Spider-Man, Captain Marvel) and "ensemble of supers" (X-Men, Avengers) that just keeps failing miserably but they keep trying to make them. Suicide Squad managed to be an ensemble, but they killed enough off for cheap heat/did not characterize enough of them that it ended up in the same segment as F4.

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 22 points 3 weeks ago

did not characterize enough of them

Excuse me?! What about the guy who can climb anything? Or Katana? I hear her sword can trap the souls of it's victims!

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 29 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Mass audiences have never, ever cared about the Fantastic Four. Every attempt to make the Fantastic Four a thing in movies has flopped.

[–] Comrade_Mushroom@hexbear.net 26 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

The only good thing about any Fantastic Four story is Dr. Doom and they just fucking refuse to put a good representation of that character into a Fantastic Four movie.

[–] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 15 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

kinda sad how the best version of dr doom is from the unreleased movie from 1994

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 16 points 3 weeks ago

it's less sad when you consider that is also the best f4 movie

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 4 points 3 weeks ago

How do they usually fail at Doom?

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 20 points 3 weeks ago

Its kinda brutal that the incredibles scratched that itch that producers of the f4 movies seem to try to get

I think it was ok. The fans saw it, but the novelty of superhero movies has evaporated. And Superman was better.

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 17 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

I doubt anything is wrong with it. People don’t go to the theater anymore.

[–] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 29 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

While that may factor a bit here, Superman and jurassic world did have good box office success

It looking more that the MCU doesnt have the same pull as before

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 13 points 3 weeks ago

covid-cool

:::spoiler spoiler

obviously that's not the reason people don't go to the movies anymore, but I wish it was at least a factor

[–] whogivesashit@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 3 weeks ago

I was considering going because I really like the fantastic 4 and I haven't been to the movies in years, but I really just don't have the funds to do it

I thought F4 was really good and most the discourse I saw was positive. Honestly kinda surprised to hear this news.

[–] fox@hexbear.net 8 points 3 weeks ago

They're nobodies compared to Superman and Superman is all over the headlines right now

[–] princeofsin@hexbear.net 24 points 3 weeks ago

The movie was really mid and people are making this out to be"Marvel is so BACK!". Story was basically them going to space, meeting galactis where he demands susan storm give her baby to him because he is marvel jesus. They tell him no and escape back to earth where they prepare for galactis to come and fight him off.

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 23 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I'd watch a Dr. Doom movie tho

[–] picklemeister@hexbear.net 18 points 3 weeks ago

every time they try to do a ff4 movie they try to sidestep the simple fact that you need to adapt books of doom as a movie first or none of the dynamics that make doom and the ff4 interesting will ever be established.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 19 points 3 weeks ago

you cannot adapt the craptastic four. learn the fucking lesson already.

[–] Comrade_Mushroom@hexbear.net 15 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

F4 was boring as fuck. The movie I thought it was going to be was boring and it had even less shit going on than that. There were like no characters, it felt so empty. I couldn't believe how little was happening in that movie.

[–] EatPotatoes@hexbear.net 12 points 3 weeks ago

The obsession with box office returns is such a cancer. Cretins still say we can’t make comedy and romcoms films because people are so easily offended. Is it taking an offence when naked racism, homophobia and transphobia no longer evokes that defense response we call laughter?

But why pay to watch something that is in the most hit and miss genre when you have streaming? Or just get that kind of bigotry for free in short form videos? You will never be 12 and watching Ace Ventura for the first time again.

It’s the economic conditions that have made the cinema is just a 2D versions of those 4D theme park rides now. Only the special effects are regressing back to those rides too with AI generated slop.

[–] Goblinmancer@hexbear.net 10 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

It would have made 1000 billion if they gave the baby to galactus.

The audience heard "fantastic four is actually fascist and pro life!" And decided to nope out #WokeVenge #wokerising

[–] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The audience heard "fantastic four is actually fascist and pro life!"

wtf

[–] segfault11@hexbear.net 14 points 3 weeks ago

more like the fantastic 14 words

[–] MisanthropiCynic@lemmy.today 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I feel like the MCU has pivoted towards catering to young kids instead of mainstream audiences. This movie was weak

I went to see it in IMAX opening Thursday night and I really wish I could get that money back. I fell for the hype. It was silly and childish like the comic movies when I was a kid
